The Longhorns I've been around today seem pretty sad to see him go.

The DMN speculation has begun... http://colleges.beloblog.com/archives/2007...next_coach.html Phil Bennett's farewell from SMU is all but official. It's time to stick a For Sale sign in the yard when the AD says he won't engage in public speculation when a 1-5 team still has a chance of making a bowl. Time to turn the page, Ponies, and start looking at candidates to be your next coach. Oh, you've been doing that for a couple years? Well, here's my contribution, based on rumor-mongering and pure speculation. Dennis Franchione: Coach Fran might want to take some time off after his disastrous tenure in Aggieland ends, but he'd be a great fit at SMU. For all his failures at A&M, Fran proved at New Mexico and TCU that he can breathe life into a bad mid-major program. Fits AD Steve Orsini's M.O. of hiring a high-profile coach who hit tough times. Paul Johnson: It'd be pretty cool if the Ponies returned to their option roots. Johnson, who has turned around a downtrodden Navy program, is the premier option coach in the country. Terry Bowden: The man who went undefeated at Auburn in 1993 has made it clear he wants back in coaching after spending several years at ABC. Word is he'd hop on the SMU job. Major Applewhite: Hiring the ex-Texas QB would create a huge buzz. But would Applewhite be ready for a head coaching gig after two years as an offensive coordinator? And would he want the SMU job or rather wait for something better? Dave Christensen: Mizzou offensive coordinator is a hot name, thanks in large part to ex-Southlake Carroll QB Chase Daniel. Rick Neuheisel: Fits Orsini's profile of big name who had a messy exit at his last head coaching stop. But Neuheisel probably step down as the Baltimore Ravens' offensive coordinator to take over SMU. Bob Davie: Ex-Notre Dame coach is a name folks would recognize, and he recruited this state for years as Texas A&M's defensive coordinator. Gary Barnett: If you can win at Northwestern, you can win anywhere. Not sure if the SMU administration would accept a coach with the baggage Barnett would bring from Colorado. Jon Tenuta: The associate head coach and defensive coordinator at Georgia Tech briefly crossed paths with Orsini in Atlanta. Spent six post-Death Penalty seasons as an SMU assistant. G.A. Moore: The winningest coach in Texas high school history proved himself as a premier recruiter time and time again. Most of his success came at the Class 2A level, but Conference USA really isn't much of a jump. Posted by Tim MacMahon at 11:32 AM (E-mail this entry

I think you have just as many people complaining as usual, but the optimists are just avoiding the negativity, reading it and laughing (and possibly even occasionally stirring it) or just not visiting the board as much. A few years ago it took more courage to question than it did to stick up for things. Now the pendulum has swung. Winning will cure that.

Every major corporation does and there are conferences and an entire industry built around how to track it. This is just phase two of that damn internet changing everything.

Speak for yourself - I quit my job today and want to go into news reporting. Actually, I think blogging really needs to evolve into something more and I don't expect everyone here to enjoy or even respect what we do because it is so stupid. I also think just as many posters are "pretending" to be coaches, athletic department decision makers or whatever else. You can't pick and choose what is "real" because it all is, but you can choose what you want to tune into and who you want to ignore. As long as fans on message boards are committed to taking themselves and college athletics (and sports as a whole) way more seriously than they ever should, there will be a market for satirists - even crappy ones like us.

I did not have a hand in this one, but I will invite many of you to enjoy the comments people made on this interview more than the interview.

I actually love Stephen Howard with an intensity no one can match. That post was in jest - you can call me Howarder from here on out.
-
I hate Stephen Howard.

Barry Switzer says my hijacks are inevitable and you might as well lie back and enjoy them. He also says he is incorrectly credited for that quote too much.

If you're going to give me a Crocker-related tag, could it at least be the "Leave Coach Fran" alone guy -
Get to the part where Cerebrus and Eagle1855 make up and cyber. That's hot.

That is just so mean. You're so mean Cerebrus. Chris Crocker demands you leave UNT Playmaker alone. -

Make it this one. TY Sports has a pretty cool interview with GMG's own Ramone Archey that I think you kids will enjoy, especially if you ever wondered exactly how Dickey was part of a larger plot to DESTROY UNT ATHLETICS!!!! (Ramone's words...not mine.) http://tysports.blogspot.com/2007/10/ramon...key-master.html So click us, link us, look at us... whatever you are into. And thanks again Ramone, for agreeing to publicly admit to being associated with me. You're two steps ahead of my girlfriend and family.

4 Picks
Quoner replied to KingDL1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
1. Have you ever talked to a Brett Favre fan? 2. Eh, they still looked average but Folk was the balls 3. I think this game indicts the AFC East more than anything 4. Just now...you weren't before? You needed a bad performance to fear the best team in football? -

Two things: 1. Greenbat wants this thread moved now. 2. We need UNTPlaymaker's ranting reaction to make this a true Cowboys victory. I did my best on my site, but I cannot hold a candle to the real thing. 16-0 buddy! -
If We Go 0-12 Don't Be Suprised If There Are Some Big Changes
Quoner replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
This is the Playmaker MO - I have agreed and disagreed with him about 25 total times on the same issue and my position is not the one changing. Just let him talk in peace, it could be worse. -
What a good.....cough.....original idea.

Yay - Playmaker and Finch are friends! -
I'm sure we're a lock for Gameday and an "A" crew this week. I'll see what I can do to talk them out of going to Norman.

Why not add a new area on the homepage - the grabass forum. The growing negative, I deserve to win now just because, football-void posts can vanish into this blackhole and my non-pertinent vomit can go in there as well. Everyone wins! It could even be the "UNT Playmaker Makes Other Fans Question Rooting for the Boys and NT Memorial Grabass Forum."
