Avery Out!
Quoner replied to Censored by Laurie's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I agree. I think the problem with Avery is that he needs to be surrounded by guys who live and breath basketball as much as he does and dedicate themselves to the game. That is Pop's culture in SA (think about it - none of those guys seem to have personalities and go as far as to let Eva Longoria question their sexual prowess.) They are dedicated robots - which is great for fans of the team. The Mavs where in that same mode when Avery got here, but as the young guys came in and the window started closing, the dedication was not the same and Avery couldn't reach through that. He was also badly out coached by coaches who had seen more than one system. Until this year, Avery had Harris as part of a larger staff to lean on to fill in what he did not know. He will continue to evolve an learn in what should be an excellent coaching career, but it will be interesting to watch how he handles a team that is not 100% on board with his message. Right now, he looks like a Ken Hitchcock type with about a 3-5 year shelf life followed by another move and another turn around. As for the Rockets, as much as you know I dislike most of your team, I dislike Utah more. Good luck tonight! -

Also, Avery is now distancing: http://mavsblog.dallasnews.com/archives/20...kidd-trade.html The genuineness of his statements are up to you. -

He could have been Carl Landry or Big Baby. -

Sarcasm detector is off. Now that the Mavs are done, the arena was fuller last night. Despite the jump in capacity, the barn was much quieter - even before SJ took the lead. The Zubov wacky pass syndrome is really starting to become unnerving. -

It makes sense. But then again, Harris has had several quotes about how Avery's system held him back and he was glad to be out, so perhaps this is a bit of posturing as well on Avery's part. Devin did not want to be there and Howard was doing everything in his power to get rid of his coach and show him up publicly. It is just a weird situation all around and probably one from which the franchise will not recover from fora few seasons. One more thought on Brandon Bass - remember how much we all loved Marquis Daniels after he played well in a 5 game loss to Sacramento a few years ago? We all suck. I also read on SI that Coach K and Tom Izzo could be contacted for this job. Would a Coach K led-Mavs team be the most hated team in the last five years? -

Devin Harris went to a god-awful conference to a team that was one game out and could not elevate anyone to catch the Hawks. Dirk did get better and no one saw the Josh Howard disaster coming. I never expected anything big from this team other than maybe a series win, but, unlike most, I don't think undoing this trade helps either. You'd probably have Golden State instead of the Mavs if this had not gone down. Harris had his ass eaten alive just as badly by the star point guards and - as I have repeated: The Jazz, Hornets, Lakers and Blazers are coming. Beware. -

My apologies - I didn't mean to imply that you were dumb for liking him nor was I advocating for trading him. It is just amazing how much better a player looks when he tries while the guys around him aren't. I wish Najera never left too and felt he was very valuable when he was here, but it is getting harder to get attached to the hustle guys when the supposed main guys keep letting us all down. Despite all of the Mavs problems, I am very excited to see how the Hornets do in the next round. If they beat the Spurs, does everyone feel a little bit better? It doesn't matter for me because our effort was so poor, but I would like to get a better idea of how good that team really is. -

You are overvaluing Bass the way that everyone once overvalued Howard. He is one of the best 7th men in the NBA and a great role player, but don't confuse him for a rock. Eagle1855 is right,. You have 2-3 great years of Dirk left and it is going to take something drastic to get him a post buddy and SF to open things back up for him. -

The team also hated Harris, which I think clouded judgment. Other than the j-ho + devin 4 eva circle jerk, most of them reportedly hated playing with Harris. I have heard a ton of stories of Harris being a dick around Dallas -walking bar tabs, stiffing waiters, etc., but never anything worth mentioning elsewhere. The moral of the story - don't trust people who look 12 or wear adult braces. -

He was for the Kidd trade. I'm not sure where people are getting that all the sudden. The problem was he thought he traded for 1999 Avery Johnson rather than an older version of Kidd. Just think how much people would have traded for Howard at one point.....sigh.... -

I would rather get cancer in my anus than have him coach this team. I guess the Suns and Mavs have always had their destiny linked, but it is a shame that they are going to fall off the map together. Very interested to see NO does against the Spurs. Not very interested to see how the Lakers do against the Jazz. The "most competitive west ever" sure panned out: 4-1 NO 4-1 SA 4-0 LA And that other unwatchable series continues.... Go....Atlanta Hawks? -

The bandwagon will be back - like 1998-2000 all over again! Welcome aboard! It will suck not being able to stretch out up in 333, but that's what happens when a sport cannibalizes and embarrasses itself the way hockey has. Even now, the NHL and the media are waisting all of their time promoting Avs/Wings even though it is a non-competitive series. They did this most of the 90s with success, but one of the reasons I think that viewership is down is no one was ever taught anything about the other teams. Imagine what would happen to the way ESPN covers baseball if the Red Sox and Yankees started missing the playoffs. With the Rangers about to bow out, you better believe the front office folks are crossing their fingers for a Penguins/Wings final. It will be an all-skating, no-hitting, some-diving exhibition where everyone can play up how "skilled" and clean the game is. -

Shameless self promotion - we have four part farewell Mavs series on the TY Sports page if anyone still cares. Fun joke at the Stars game tonight: What do Mavs fans and sailors have in common? They both follow the Stars after they suffer a big loss. Weak and corny, yet poignant. -
Only if sarcasm continues to escape you like a fat girl waving her trophy from the smell contest (name that reference!) Sweet sassy molassey!

I kind of wish he would have shown some initiative and created a new receiving system for packages beyond what the entire university uses. It's this second rate thinking that has kept us where we are for years.

Thank you. You should post that same rant so it can live on outside of the restricted board. -
Now you are just showing off. No ball jokes for you. Ha!

Atlanta and the Bucks let Williams and Paul slip away. And Mavs fans like to pretend that all the sudden Devin Harris did not get his ass handed to him every time he played either of them. -

Talk radio is just pure shit 95% of the time, but I still enjoy it - just like message boards. I prefer d*** jokes peppered in with both formats, but hey, that's just me (and maybe a few others.) Both of our cities have basically the same types of people making up the fan base and it is hilarious to sit back and enjoy. In Dallas, this all falls on Avery and his trap door plunge has been amazing to watch. He and Ron Washington get an absurd amount of venom for leading two flawed teams with deep-rooted problems - which I sometimes wonder is because they are not white and gentlemanly. Back to the point, do you think Tracy is ready to force a departure within a year or so, is this just a cool, honest moment from a very beaten man?
