But Florida won two national championships with underclassmen!

Can we? Yes. Will we? No.

If I wanted to claim the Big 12 had no defensive abilities, I probably would have just said that, wouldn't I? I went into bowl season thinking that the only teams worth caring about in each conference were the top 2-3 and wanted to see how those record setting offenses shoved down our throats did against other top 10 teams. I was told by numerous folks that the numbers would continue and the teams would assert dominance. I spent weeks listening to how Texas and OU were going to win by double digits - especially from the t-shirt fans (the people who actually go to these schools and talk about things not on a internet forum were much more realistic about things.) Since you bring up UT's amazing defensive performance against OSU, Penn State and USC combined to hold them to 9 points, so I wouldn't hurt yourself banging the drum too hard. I also think Texas and Oklahoma should be able to hold someone under 24 with all of their talent given over a month to prepare, but maybe I am crazy. My Texas alum wife agreed, but she's just a woman with a brain the third the size of mine. It's science. When Ole Miss lays an ass whipping that could have been much worse on Tech, Texas barely wins, OSU loses by double digits to Oregon and Florida holds the 60+ record-setting offense to 14, I feel that I can say that the Big 12 underperformed based on what everyone said about it. It was a year of hot air that gave way to the time-honored principles of running the ball and playing good defense, and that made me happy. Russell360, I know you love to pop in and cheerlead for Tech's honor whenever they are remotely questioned and I appreciate you getting mad at anyone from ol' NT questioning their greatness. I'll do my best to raise my Tech discussion credentials (maybe I'll buy a Graham Harrell jersey and move to Lubbock), but until then, as Martin Luther famously said during the Reformation, "facts is facts, mofos!"

This year only - needed to preface that and forgot.

What a nice problem to have.

Here's some fun with numbers: Big 12 North: 3-0 Big 12 South: 1-3 With all the "amazing" offenses, only three teams (OSU, TT, and KU) scored more than 30. The only team to break 40 was Kansas and they are the only high scoring team that won. Texas and Oklahoma combined do not reach even one of their top 5 scoring averages with only 38 points. The Big 12 went: 3-0 against the Big 10 0-2 against the SEC 1-0 against the ACC 0-1 against the PAC-10 I don't think the SEC is a super conference either and both have their flaws, but I would gladly notch my testicle with a hole punch to kill the Big 12 is the best conference ever talk for another year.

Totally broke the streak... -
I don't want to be the guy who just attacks the positive all the time (there's enough of them), but: The FBS young starters thing gets debunked every time it is mentioned. Do the Sun Belt board folks not follow MTSU? We aren't asking for a title - most would have been happy with 4 wins last year - or even 0-11 with 10 close losses would make many of the grumblers feel better. It was the non-competitiveness that killed everyone's spirit, not the losing. Most don't complain that we lost - it's how we lost. Also, it's not like we just went out and signed this massive bounty of JC linemen on both sides of the ball. now to balance with positivity - it's all green and it's all good!!!! I am eager to see how last year's recruiting class progresses. I think the O Line has a lot of potential for next year and the guys we signed and/or redshirted should help.

The ladies call mine by three words: "Thanks, Mean Joe." -
Jag came from the NFL and had designs on getting back as quick as possible. BC was trying to temper this process and/or make a statement. They have great assistants waiting in the wings (including former ECU coach Steve Logan) and have had strong coaches since Tom Coughlin was there in the 1990s. This was a calculated move with insurance in place to make a point about being used a stepping stone after the way Tom O'Brien shafted them to go to North Carolina State. Jags won't have any trouble finding another job, but I would bet he becomes an NFL coordinator.

Important distinction - Texas douche is not about hating Texas. It is about supporting a school you have no real affiliation with except that you like that they win - especially at a non-related event. For example, if you go to a Stars game in a Michigan jersey, you might think "hey, I'm michigan douche." But, if you're following Marty Turco closely and loved him since college, the jersey relates (it's a little known clause - like if people start wearing Cobbs Miami jerseys to our games next year.) However, if you wear a UT, A&M, Baylor or any other non-related jersey, sweatshirt or whatever to the game - you get the douche tag. It's not malice, it's just asking for fan appropriate rooting. Also, why do people where branded team merchandise to church? -

You beat my on the field early, but I'm closing strong, so it's as good as mine. Will you be sending any plane banners over my house/mom's basement? Maybe a justgotpwn3dbylongjimbowl.com banner? -
"The gang gets invincible" is an outstanding, football themed starter episode I've used on friends and imprisoned boy scouts. It also makes me laugh every time I see Donovan McNabb now.

You win one damn Fiesta bowl and you just get cocky and flamboyant. The nerve... -
Yes you should. If only because it will make my upcoming basketball game attire make much more sense. And sorry I'm no Aztecskin. I'll make that a 2009 resolution/goal.
