  1. Think the train runs on Saturday’s but you’d need a ride from downtown to UNM
  2. Also. Drive the old Route 66 from Sandia Mountain to downtown at night. Lot of the old neon signs still in service
  3. Oh and go to Mary and Tito’s. It’s a James Beard award winning restaurant that is really cheap
  4. Stay in ABQ. You can get decent prices at HI Express and such. I stayed a week in the one out by the Indian museum. Not a terrible drive from the stadium but not close at all
  5. Don’t you remember the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau and the city turned down the big money request from ESPN because the game doesn’t fill hotel rooms. They don’t CARE about the ticket sales, they want hotel rooms to get city money.
  6. The guy we had poached played at Boise Capital High school, then Boise State, started coaching there and was OC for the OU win. Plus $1.8 million ain’t chump change
  7. Gone through four hires in 9 years. It’s not the end of the world and it increases the applicant pool.
  8. Growing up there was one team my dad would always watch if we weren’t at an AState game, Alabama. For a number of years it seemed as if AState had a day game Tennessee had a night game and vice versa so I listened to a lot of their games on the radio and became a fan. One of my favorite photos of my son and I he had just taken my Tennessee hat and put it on. I like the SEC. What I hate about the SEC is the losers and also-rans of the conference getting their validation basking in the reflected glow of the great programs. If you suck you suck. Also in general SEC fans are utterly ignorant of college athletics outside of the SEC.
  9. There are 65 power programs today. If that number is different 10 years from now I think it is more likely that the number will be smaller instead of larger
  10. Absolutely insane they go from "We can't afford to keep up in football so pull the plug" to making it rain for the coach.
  11. They have found their groove. He won 10 in 2009, lost 10 in 2011. Since 2011 won 8, 8, 6, 7, 8, 7, and 8 (pending bowl game). Used to be most any fan base outside of Nebraska or Michigan types would be thrilled by that today people focus more on the fact there hasn't been a conference championship since 2006, which was his first season.
  12. Last time I saw anything that dumb was AState at Kansas in 1981. Kansas trails 16-10 late but had all their timeouts so are going to kick. AState has 12 on the field, first down Kansas and they score a TD. Guess that's a once every 40 or so years screw up.
  13. I was surprised by the crowd. When AState played there in 2011 I went and they were 2-7 and it was looking like rain and they had as many or more actually in the stands. Maybe they have Stockstill fatigue.
  14. SEC is annoying as heck but they deliver when it is on the line. If you go back and look at the BCS era, Florida State and OU had the most title game appearances (4 each) and went a combined 2-6. Bama and LSU went a combined 5-1 (loss was LSU to Bama), Ohio State went 1-2. Florida and Auburn went a combined 3-1. Miami, Texas, and USC made two appearances each and went a combined 3-3. Tennesse won their sole appearance Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oregon and Virginia Tech lost their only appearances.
  15. Had a friend buried on what would have been his 48th birthday a couple weeks ago. Was out running and collapsed. So easy to overstress the small stuff
  16. Had 14 month or so remission. Blake and Trooper were roommates at Baylor, having him on hand to serve as interim as needed hopefully dials down the work stress so he can concentrate on the the important
  17. Blake’s wife’s breast cancer is out of remission and has spread he isn’t job hunting. His name got floated for Colorado before the diagnosis and no jobs since. He will be on and off the job in the near term with Trooper acting head coach any time he has to be out.
  18. I'm not. When Tulsa was looking to cut money in the athletic department he took a paycut along with most everyone else. Wager they can't afford to buy him out and go into the marketplace this year.
  19. Yeah UCF isn't the only team that has been notably good the past few years. Now are people clamoring to watch UConn vs. SMU? Of course not but Houston, Memphis, Cincinnati, and USF have been nationally relevant and Navy is a draw as long as they don't suck like they did this year.
  20. I've not had any feed problems and usually catch at least parts of several games. Plus I watch some NHL (basically any Predators game) and MLS (the SKC games). I suspect people having feed issues are contending with a poor network or the internet providers are throttling it to try to force ESPN to pay for access ahead of the launch of Disney+
  21. We will see when it comes to AAC. They deliver good ratings but if no one tries to outbid ESPN the ratings won’t mean much.
  22. Sun Belt added one additional weeknight game. I think the P5/G5 gap is going to continue to grow. The networks are mostly seeking BIG draws and will fight for those events and leagues. But otherwise no one except ESPN, Stadium and to a lesser degree CBSSN is chasing non-premium content. Fox not bidding on CUSA was a signal to everyone without premium content or high value niche content.
  23. Let go as OC at Delaware. Improved their passing game but they couldn’t run the ball.
  24. Didn't look like there was anyone left to hassle UNT fans.
  25. Because of SMU and how long they were on the canvas, there isn't ever going to be much passion for handing out death. When UTPA got busted a second time, the school went to the Committee on Infractions meeting and said we are guilty and we have no defense or mitigating circumstances to avoid imposition of the death penalty and they still got off without death.
