  1. I've been told he is done for the year. :-(
  2. First time, since opening Apogee, that the Club was rocking and the first time I didn't get dirty looks from those around me while hollering! Loved it!
  3. Zac Paul excelled today and I'm giving Olen a break for today. Olen was told he would not be kicking FG today, period. Then was placed in the game without benefit of any warmups and, due to game clock, had to speed up his setup because the decision to try that FG was made late. Tony Johnson stepped up and did an awesome job as Dunham replacement after the first punt snap. Punt returns were there and Bre really picked the team up by keeping the balls from rolling down the field as we've seen in years past. Happy to see the Special Teams guys step up and contribute to a huge North Texas victory! Dang, can't believe I didn't give the proper kudos to Blake Macek. If I'm not mistaken, and without reviewing the stats, i don't think BSU had any return yardage today! Way to go Blake and the North Texas coverage unit.
  4. Imagine that, once again you statements prove to be false! Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and prove it.
  5. One of my main concerns every year, for as long as I can remember, has been our inability to execute during Punt returns. If my math is right, our punt return yardage Saturday was more than the past 7 years combined! Happy, Happy, Happy!
  6. ...and Ryan Boutwell who also graduated early. Huge feat in my opinion and special kudos to these players parents who help prioritize academics in these young men from an early age.
  7. And as usual, your thoughts are wrong.
  8. Ding, Ding, and we have a winner! DT will actually have a rushing yard total this year as the staff is more comfortable with his backups. Derek won't be compared to Johnny Football but he will actually be able to completely utilize the Zone Read Option this year. Count on it! Exciting season getting ready to unfold before your very eyes!
  9. Now you guys are just bragging!
  10. 9am from what I've heard. Still a closed practice and most likely inside Apogee. If it happens to be on the AC Practice fields, drive into the Victory Dorm parking lot and watch from there, I've never been confronted or chased off while watching practices from that vantage point. But I'm not FFR!
  11. Yes, there was a table setup for season ticket sales.
  12. It's really not the most thrilling of events.
  13. Just to make sure everyone knows. This is a parody account someone, other than Derek, created and is tweating under. P1 should have mentioned this in his post because there are those out there that would take this as coming from Derek and you wouldn't know unless you actually took a look at the profile.
  14. Being a member of a coaching family, I started helping cut up film when I was around 11/12 years old, and I do mean film. Not to mention all the time I spent in HS and college watching film as a Center and Nose Tackle. I now have Uncles, Nephews, and Cousins coaching football at all levels so every time we watch a game it ends up being a critique session. You know what, those guys are paid to coach and evaluate, very rarely do they all agree on anything so I don't have a problem with you being a BB fan or thinking he will be the man come fall! I only have a problem with how critical you are of DT. Different coaches like different types of players and you are not a coach...yet. Brock has been virtually out of competitive football for 3 years, ZERO real game competition during that time. His lack of experience shows everytime he makes a throw after crossing the line of scrimmage, which has happened about a half dozen times i've had the opportunity to watch him practice or scrimmage. His touch throws do not impress me nor do the little jump passes he seems to like so much. What does impress me is his ability to make something out of nothing but I think he relies on that part of his game way to much for a college system. Generally that happens when someone is not familar with a system. I also don't think there is much difference in arm strength but BB does have a quicker release. Brock needs more seasoning to get back in sync. Like I said, I think Brock is the Qb of the future but I won't have the dim view of the season many have when DT is the man this year. Points per game, RZ or otherwise, are more a result of a scheme/coach than a player. I am lucky enough to have gotten one on one time with both Mac and Canales the past several years and they like what DT, BB, & MiniMac bring to the table, each is a little different but what else is a coach going to say to someone outside of his coaching fraternity? You can root for BB to be the man and swear he is the second coming of Tom Brady (whose college evaluations sounded more like DT than BB) but he has not shown me the ability to put it all together at this point. I want 2013 to be the season where North Texas puts it all together. Most things being equal, I'll take experience every day and twice on Saturdays! Of course, your entitled to your own opinion and face facts that is all that either of us have at this point. As I've told BB and DT, good luck, compete, and may the best man for North Texas win! To fuzzy for you? GMG!
  15. That's Mr. Thompson to you(Not really, no relation to the Thompson family)! Haha, Every snap of every game in person, how about you? Restricted, all because of our Qb, OK nice thesis. You can't open the playbook when you lose what the staff considers your #1, and debately only, playmaker (well you could and our staff didn't but it wasn't because Derrick was the Qb). Please, MiniMac was marked for RS because he wasn't going to be the starter which, in your fuzzy logic, makes him a below average D1 Qb prospect. And BB is running 3rd string which again, in your fuzzy logic, makes him a below average D1 Qb prospect. I do not agree with your assessments. There are so many other things that show how highly the staff thinks of DT but carrying around Brocks and Trussels jock is fuzzing your brain a bit in my opinion. The NT Offense, including Derrick, did not have a good season for numerous reasons. Although Derrick would tell you it was on him, the fact remains that our lack of success on offense last year included pretty much everyone on that side of the ball at one time or another. I know you talk with some of the players everyday, as do I, but that does not equate to what coaches think about particular players. All your opinions are based upon less than one year of review/results because I know you didn't see every game in person or otherwise. Offensive linemen do not generally make good Qb evaluators or Offensive Coordinators. GMG!
  16. When it comes to returning punts, just the opposite of what you stated is true! Also, Riddle was not chased off, if that was your meaning. <SoapBox> I really wish folks would quit stating that MAC, Chico, and/or the team don't have trust in DT because that is just plain false. If they did not, DT wouldn't have been the Starter/Captain for the entire 2012 season and wouldn't even be getting a chance to contribute this year. Fact, less than half of the interceptions thrown last year were on our quarterbacks, period. Every Qb makes bad decision and throws, even the ones that will be drafted this week. IMO, Mac was hoping to put together a winning season and Bowl game in 2012, he thought he could make this happen without using his 2012 recruits. Mac wanted to allow his recruiting class to mature emotionally and physically under Wintrich. There were a number of guys from that 2012 class that would have been contributors if they were allowed on the field last year and our Win/Loss record would most likely have been better because of them. However, Mac made a decision and chose to hold those kids out with a focus on a solid 2013. I believe Mac has been looking towards the 2013 season since he arrived. For personal reasons, I did not like that thought process but I understand what North Texas is trying to do in regards to building a program unlike any we have ever seen here. So far, BB scares me. Yes, he looks to have the skills but he seems to be to much of a gunslinger right now(lots of upside with a corresponding downside). I don't believe for a minute that Mac or Chico are looking for that type of QB for the 2013 season with the players they will have at their disposal. Could BB be used in some special situations(WildCat/GoalLine), I would bet the farm he will see the field in that capacity but not as the everyday starter baring injury to DT. As it stands today, I still think Mini-Mac would be brought in as the first Qb off the bench(two years of learning and running the offense). Brock is a smart kid and knows the offense on paper but he has not had the repetitions to put everything into action. His decision making on the field is still a bit suspect. Mac hates turnovers and penalties, he will rely on his defense to win a game instead of the offense(that's just Mac and his love of hard nosed football). I think Brock is the future starting Qb at North Texas but not this year unless the season goes south. Derrick might not be considered a top level D1 Qb but he certainly is not considered a below average D1 Qb by those that are paid to know. You guys can throw out not liking his footwork, throwing motion, speed, and/or decision making but Derrick is a solid Qb, Leader, and Winner in every way. I trust the coaches to put the players on the field, that give us the best chance to win, every game day. We have 3 solid D1 caliber Qb's on the roster today and we will see if DaJon makes four in August! You guys can pontificate about wins/loses and why you like this guy or that guy but the fact remains, you make a living doing something other than evaluating D1 football talent! <Off Soapbox> GMG!
  17. I wouldn't say all powerful but a message board can sure swing the pendulum for a recruit with options. I don't know of a single recruit, or a recruits parents, that haven't checked out a schools message board before making a decision that will impact their lives over the next 4-5 years or longer. The frequency of your negative posts do much more harm than good in my opinion. When I hear someone griping as much as you do, I pretty much write that persons opinions off as worthless but not everyone thinks that way.
  18. I don't believe Hardship Waivers/Medical Redshirts are granted until the player requesting the waiver has used up all of their eligibility. It is my understanding that Brown would request the waiver, after his senior season, in order to play a 5th year(if he missed out playing an entire year). Doesn't matter when the injury happened during the course of the players career but the waiver would be addressed after their senior year. There could be a difference in how JUCO Transfers are handled.
  19. I wouldn't say committed. PK, KO, & P spots are open for the taking. Ohlen, Paul, and Tamez will battle for the PK and Kick-Off duties while it looks like Macek might have some serious competition, in Cooper Jones, for the punting duties. From the video in this thread, I don't see Becker in the mix for either position but I haven't seen him in person. With Dunham out, for what appears to be the spring, it's going to be tough on the Punters and Place Kickers to get their timing down and be able to show their best during the spring.
  20. If you play football for a university, and are on scholarship, that scholarship counts as a football scholarship. No way around it, period. Could you imagine the number of academic scholarships schools like OU, LSU, UT, and the like would have if this was a possiblity? There would be no star rated players available for those schools outside of the AQ's.
  21. Sounds like a questions for those in the College of Music.
  22. Attending Softball games is partly a trade off to get the Wife to attend football games but I do enjoy attending. I sometimes close my eyes and try to imagine I'm at a NT Baseball game. Looks like I won't have to imagine that for very much longer!
  23. DT also does a good job of not taking a sack. Derek plays smart in that backfield no matter what some of you think. It just isn't about how good the OL blocks.
  24. There might be a forthcoming announcement related to training facilities for the North Texas Golf teams, if everything falls in place. Most everything UNT related is on the upward trend! If you (general YOU not you Wardly) can't get uber excited about how things are moving for North Texas, then you just might be dead!
