  1. Hate SMU like the rest of us but their Boulevard tailgating setup is impressive to say the least.
  2. Mr. Farris received the Palestine Herald-Press Athletic Award for the 1957-1958 school year. He was inducted into the Palestine Wall of Honor in 2014. He was recruited by Coach Bear Bryant and attended Texas A&M for one year before transferring to TJC. At Tyler Junior College he was Junior College All-America as a guard/linebacker and was named the conference’s Most Valuable Player. Mr. Farris helped lead the Apaches to the 1960 national championship. TJC was 12-0 during the regular season and was invited to the Junior Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. Although the Apaches lost to Long Beach City College, 38-16, TJC was awarded the national title before the postseason game. In 2009, Mr. Farris was inducted into the TJC Sports Circle of Honor. In 2018, the TJC 1960 championship team received a Special Recognition Award from the TJC Alumni Association. This award recognizes an individual or a team of individuals for their outstanding professional achievements, contributions to society, and/or service to their community thus bringing honor to the College. After junior college, Mr. Farris ended up at North Texas State and was named All-America his junior season. In the 1962 NFL Draft he was selected by the Los Angeles Rams as the 100th overall player and the second pick of the eighth round. Mr. Farris was also selected in the 23rd round (184th player) by the San Diego Chargers in the 1962 AFL Draft, but chose to play for the Rams. After his professional career, he returned to his beloved hometown of Palestine. He helped develop and grow the family real estate business. read more: https://tylerpaper.com/news/services-for-former-tjc-football-all-american-richard-farris-sr-scheduled-for-saturday/article_2a6f7656-03d9-11ed-ae79-536f3c12fc07.html
  3. Following one season as offensive coordinator at North Texas, Harrell produced back-to-back top-25 offenses after inheriting an offense that ranked in the nation's bottom 25 in scoring, passing, and total offense. Harrell comes from the Air Raid tree, stemming from his time with legendary college football head coach Mike Leach while Harrell was the quarterback at Texas Tech (2005-08). The two linked up again at Washington State in Harrell's transition to coaching for two seasons (2014-15) as an offensive analyst then receivers coach installed his version of the offense during the spring practice period. "From a schematic standpoint, everything that we were going to do, we installed in spring ball. We've been repping them all summer, and we'll use the fall camp practice schedule to refine those even more," said Brown. read more: https://www.si.com/college/westvirginia/football/wvu-oc-graham-harrell-has-a-different-energy-about-him
  4. What if the ACC gets raided and comes and decides to add us? Would we be interested in leaving? I get that odds of this are low but it sounds like they may get a ton of defections soon.
  5. DENTON, Texas – Lysette Rivera-Cortes has been named the strength and conditioning coach for the North Texas women’s basketball team, Jalie Mitchell announced on Wednesday. “Lysette comes to UNT highly recommended, and ready to leave her mark”, Mitchell said. “I can't wait for her to lead our young women in strength and conditioning work, preparing them for what's to come. Her mindset and drive are unmatched, and what attracted us in the hiring process. She will join us in doing whatever it takes to continue soaring to new heights!” Rivera-Cortes was with Bucknell’s strength and conditioning staff for two seasons where she worked with eight different sports. Prior to Bucknell, she was at Georgia Southern University, where she had been serving as an assistant strength and conditioning coach. At GSU, Rivera-Cortes worked with the men's basketball, women's basketball, men's golf, and cheerleading teams. She instructed student-athletes in proper execution of Olympic and powerlifting movements, plyometric drills, sprint mechanics and other techniques. She was also responsible for creating individualized nutrition programs to optimize athletic performance and recovery. Rivera-Cortes is a 2019 graduate of Old Dominion University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. In August 2020, she completed a master's degree in exercise science from ODU, and she also worked with the Monarchs' women's volleyball, women's basketball and swimming and diving teams as a graduate assistant. Rivera-Cortes is a National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). She has completed USA Weightlifting Level One (USAW-1) certification. She is also a certified nutrition coach (PN-1) and a registered yoga teacher (200 Hr-RYT). QUOTING STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH RIVERA-CORTES “I’m thrilled to be joining the Mean Green and working alongside coach Mitchell. North Texas is a phenomenal opportunity. I admire UNT’s emphasis on developing the best overall student-athlete to help them succeed on the court and in life. I’m super excited to make a positive impact on this program and in Denton.”
  6. I keep thinking some of the folks in charge at the University of Texas will wake up some fine morning and admit how badly they’ve screwed up college sports—especially college football, since that’s the big catfish. Of course, that thought is aspirational, like flying pigs, dancing turnips, and an athletics conference that makes geographical sense. If you’re looking for ground zero for the chaos that’s engulfed college sports, you’d need to go back to 2011, when Texas A&M bolted for the Southeastern Conference because the school no longer trusted UT’s machinations in the Big 12. Lots of Texas A&M alums will tell you that jumping to the SEC was the best thing that ever happened to the Aggies. A&M, no longer stuck in the Longhorns’ shadow, found itself competing in the richest, most prestigious conference in the land. Yet still, I have this dream that A&M and Texas officials will meet for coffee, shake hands, and say something like: “Let’s think of our fans and what’s best for them.” I know that’s naive, but if they ever got together, it would take them about five minutes to come up with a brand-new conference that’d be wildly appealing in the Lone Star State. UT and A&M would be in it. So would Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Arkansas. Also Texas Tech, Baylor, Houston, Oklahoma State, TCU, and SMU. (I’d also invite UTSA, UTEP, and North Texas.) read more: https://www.texasmonthly.com/arts-entertainment/ncaa-conference-realignment-blame-texas/
  7. Wow that is wild. Oregon State and Washington State would be good adds in my opinion. And yes give Aresco and the AAC prez's credit as they outplayed the MWC in chess it appears.
  8. Yes but there are some rivalries that will resume due to the latest rounds of realignment as well. Texas and A&M will play on Thanksgiving again and that is going to generate a lot of interest in the state and nation.
  9. Zac Babb and Hank Dickenson debut #GMGCast with former Mean Green men's basketball players JJ Murray and DJ Draper, discussing their The Basketball Tournament team "Bleed Green." Zac and Hank walk through JJ and DJ's journeys from walk-ons with the men's basketball program to key contributors on championship-winning teams. They break down everything that goes into creating a TBT team and how Mean Green fans can support Bleed Green as they gear up for their first game on July 22nd. That's followed by a brief trip down the corridor of years in a segment called Babbling with Hank, where Zac and Hank talk about the 1995 North Texas football season and the infamous "Schedule from Hell" the Mean Green had to play in their return to the FBS ranks. 0:00 - Podcast introductions 2:08 - DJ Draper & JJ Murray Intros 4:35 - DJ & JJ's early days at UNT 7:02 - Bleed Green TBT Overview 8:47 - Beginnings of TBT team 10:00 - Bleed Green roster 14:02 - Benefits of TBT exposure 15:09 - Unique rules to TBT games 17:51 - How to help support Bleed Green 19:56 - Bleed Green coaching staff 28:16 - "Babbling with Hank," the 1995 UNT football team LINK TO PODCAST: https://meangreensports.com/podcasts/-gmgcast-jj-murray-and-dj-draper/77
  10. Not just a huge recruiting win but the biggest recruiting win in history!
  11. Hearing he was at the Hilltop yesterday. Sounds like they are interested but UT and A&M may have the inside edge. Also I do not think he has yet graduated and would need a hardship waiver. He could also be taking summer school and trying to gain eligibility by this season.
  12. Great idea and I would support this 100%
  13. I am sorry to hear you feel this way. I really am.
  14. Yeah but Bill Clark at UAB took a program that was completely shut down and built it back up into a powerhouse. The UNT job is not complicated. It’s one of the easiest jobs in FBS quite honestly. We just cannot ever hire the right guy. In the past it was about money and that has evidently not changed.
  15. When’re else would be better. Seems like that is the best place we have on the Eagle point side where people see it. I would have preferred a sculpture type deal like A&M has for the 12th man or like the Mean Joe sculpture in bronze but I’m guessing it was not in the budget. Fans need to understand, we are moving from driving a Mercedes’ in the CUSA to driving a Taurus in the AAC. NIL adds another funding concern as well. Until we find our next “Mattress Mac” type of sugar daddy donor we will need to start cutting coupons and eating bologna sandwiches with white bread and mustard.
  16. All good questions. Based on his past actions I don’t think Ween would fire Seth during the season. He prefers to wait and evaluate after the season is over. Last year was a good example for that philosophy as Seth reeled off 5 straight and beat a top 25 team. the only scenario I can envision where Seth would be fired during the season would be if he just lost the tea
  17. his is the first entry in the series that will focus on underrated offense across the FBS landscape. North Texas has produced quality play but the consensus is underrating this group. This might come across as a weird inclusion at first as they ranked 88th in EPA per play last season and 80th in success rate but things change, and Seth Littrell’s Mean Green has upside. Ranking first in players per game, the offense should have plenty of plays to support production if things break right. Additions in the transfer portal highlighted by Grant Gunnell could lead this offense to the next level in 2022. Quarterback Adding quarterback Grant Gunnell in the portal can make or break the season. AARP member Austin Aune has been competent for North Texas, but Gunnell gives the offense a ceiling we haven’t seen in Latrell’s tenure. In 2021’s regular season, Aune ranked 109th among qualified quarterbacks in total EPA with -16.66. The loss of Jyaire Shorter hurt the passing offense but ultimately, Aune was holding the unit back. He started or played the majority of snaps in 11 games. In those games, he had more than 240 passing yards once and under 125 yards five times. His average of 181 yards in games, ranks among the worst in the nation for a team that isn’t primarily an option team. To add, Aune had only 9 touchdowns in these 11 games Comparatively, Gunnell has been productive when starting despite limited reps up to this point. In his career, he’s had significant action in five games at a Power 5 level. In the matchups where he’s thrown more than 20 passes, he’s averaging 272 yards and 2 touchdowns per contest. Accomplished as a true freshman and sophomore, Gunnell also played a struggling Arizona team against quality defenses. In 2021, he was injured before the season for the Memphis Tigers, resulting in Seth Henigan’s breakout. It’s a small sample for Gunnell but it’s clear he represents upside for this offense. read more: https://campus2canton.com/underrated-offenses-north-texas/
  18. Back to the original question, I do think he might have graduated from Memphis so he does not have to sit out as a grad transfer.
  19. You can’t. The head coach is the brain and soul of the program. He’s the CEO of the business. If he doesn’t have what it takes you owe it to the business to move on quickly. Wren needs to let this play out but I absolutely think he has a plan b ready and waiting.
  20. #1 KD Davis, LB Sr. Davis was a two-time Honorable Mention All-Conference USA defender, and last year took his game up a few notches with a First Team All-Conference USA season making 121 tackles with a broken up pass. Before that the 6-0, 229-pounder made 168 tackles with 6.5 sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss with two fumble recoveries. read more: https://collegefootballnews.com/lists/north-texas-mean-green-top-10-players-college-football-preview-2022

  21. North Texas Mean Green Preview 2022 Is Seth Littrell ready to take North Texas into a new era? He’s a young head coach who was a hot name in the overall mix after two straight nine win seasons in 2017 and 2018, but three straight losing seasons and a 14-21 record since then changed the perception. His teams can crank up the offense, improved a bit on defense, and at least got to bowl games in five of his six seasons at the helm. Granted, the Mean Green lost all five of the bowls, but he got there. Now North Texas is gearing up for live in the American Athletic Conference next year. The league might be a shadow of its former self with the stars taking off, but it’s still a big step for the program and the university. This year, with a few schools taking off early for the Sun Belt, and with a loaded offense coming back, this is when the team and program should rise back up again. The tough schedule might have something to say about that, but in Year Seven, this is when North Texas needs to be the team everyone else fears. And it will be because of the … read more: https://collegefootballnews.com/2022/06/north-texas-mean-green-preview-2022-season-prediction-breakdown-key-games-players/amp
