Damn, that's badass. Going to get some coverage up here especially on the Ticket as several of their people went to North Texas. Last edited: Yesterday at 8:22 PM Read more: https://maroonandgolden.com/forum/index.php?threads/men’s-sun-belt-tournament.1635/page-8

Well we should be taken care of in terms of home games if we can just win. Wren sits on the selection committee I believe. -
For me either OU and a chance to play against Mo or Texas A&M. Would be fun to play a game at Aggie land.

DRC: UNT left out of NCAA tournament

Dammit Vito!!! -
I like others was disappointed to lose the twins. That said, let’s move on and just go get some more good ones to join us.

Happy for Marcus but saddened that he is not on the UNT staff. Other than Cobbs not a lot of UNT representation. We have become Baylor northern campus.

You do realize that the biggest obstacle we have in softball recruiting is other competing coaches tell prospects that DeLong won’t be at UNT for “Long”…

The beautiful Jumbotron you see in the SuperPit (SP) was purchased due to several large donors who stepped up big time and gave a lot of dough. To put this story into context, it is correct that UNT owns the SP and the administration controls all scheduling and, get this, charges the UNT sports teams and other departments rental fees for usage. And they are nazis about it. They have been known to raise a stink when a practice time for basketball had to be moved due to a death in the family even when the revised date and time was not booked and crap like that. Remember the faculty and staff at UNT are like a bunch of little birdies needing to be fed but with no desire to create food or hunt for it themselves. UNT Athletics had been asking the administration for a new jumbotron for years and they were ignored. The AD was then able to get it done through their own efforts. After that, UNT wanted use of the Jumbotron for all of their events including graduation and whatnot. So even though they didn't pay for it, and lift a finger to help raise the money for it, they wanted full use of it and basically wanted to claim ownership of it. And they wanted to charge others for the use of it! This is just one story and I have many, many others that involve people like Steven Selby and the like and many other subjects of interest here. I may choose to share these at a later time if I get enough +1 votes. 😁 I love the SP and as many here graduated in there and have fond memories. If we are to become the next Gonzaga - I am convinced athletics needs their own place with no strings attached. GMG

It was reported by the Houston Chronicle that Cincinnati, Central Florida and Houston will have to pay a hefty fee of $45 million to leave the American Athletic Conference by 2023. The three future Big 12 schools are contractually required to remain in the AAC until 2024. In the article, it states that on top of the $10 million required exit fee that Cincinnati, Houston and UCF are also required to pay a $35 million fee to leave the AAC prior to the 2023 fall season as opposed to the 2024 fall season. AAC bylaws require a $10 million exit fee and a 27-month prior notice to leave, hence why the school’s are contractually obligated to stay until 2024. read more: https://wvsportsnow.com/aac-charging-future-big-12-schools-45-million-to-leave-by-2023/

The reason we had such a small signing class was the staff determined there would be a lot of value in portal transfers after spring training. I expect they will look at these Longhorn transfers along with many others. Just wish they would have taken this approach towards the portal and transfers much earlier.

Why can't we be the next Houston?
meangreen11 replied to meangreen11's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Agree 100%. I think the AAC is the perfect place to make the next step. We have to do better at coaching hires, obviously in football but basketball hasn't been perfect either (Benford and Trill come to mind). I see three key goals that we need to focus in on asap. If I am the AD right now I do everything in my power to retain McCasland. Break the bank, promise him your firstborn son whatever it takes. Next, you absolutely have to make the right hire in football. This may require you moving out of your safety blanket and you may have to tell the sensitive crowd - who expects a boy scout who can win - to pound sand. It will cost money and it will require a much closer focus on the ability to recruit and build at a G5. It will also require a commitment to the assistant salary pool. Just paying the head guy a lot has clearly not worked well for us. The third and equally as important piece is getting the athletic center expanded or redone or whatever you want to call it. If we can do those three things we will be well positioned for a bright future in the AAC. -
LOL so true my friend!

I couldn't get the video link to work for me so not sure exactly what happened. Will say this, we should all be inclusive of all people - no matter what their race and gender, difference etc... and anyone who says otherwise should go stick it! I do believe the vast majority of the population agrees on this.

I was told the only reason Littrell was still around was the timing. He was set to get fired after the UTSA and he pulled a rabbit out of his hat and beat a ranked team at home. The problem, it seems for UNT in these types of situations is our history. Littrell for all his faults has the second best winning percentage next to only the great HOF UNT coach Hayden Fry. And yes coming back from 1-6 is a respectable feat for any coach at any level, even if it was against the conference bottom feeders. Lastly, the timing really hurt. This is partially Wren's fault because of his desire to evaluate jobs at the end of the season. BTW, that play from the AD playbook is dated now as we saw VA. Tech fire Fuente BEFORE he could win more games and potentially get bowl eligible. But back to the timing, it is very hard to go out an hire a staff of good assistants off cycle. In other words, assistants typically sign one year renewable contracts and once they are locked into that they are typically not willing to make a move. Once we made the determination to keep Seth through the bowl it basically locked us out of the hiring, or meant we would be getting the leftover assistant pool candidates. I think many agree with you and would like to have seen a change but I also think you need to be honest that it was not as black and white a decision as you try to portray it. I think we can all agree that Littrell is on a very short leash heading into this season. GMG

I just noticed that Houston beat Cincy to clinch the AAC conference championship. It got me to thinking. We are very similar to Houston. We are a large public university within a very large and growing population base. Our enrollment is 42K and will soon be >50K so we share similar size. They struggle with the competition of being in a largely pro sports town but have somehow figured out a way to overcome it. They have battled schools like Tech and Baylor and KU/K-State OSU who have voted against them every time they tried to move up as we have had schools like SMU do same to us. My question is why can we not mold ourselves into Houston and use the blue print they have established for success?

Southern Miss and Marshall – two of the three schools planning to leave along with Old Dominion – received a temporary restraining order against Conference USA. This restraining order prevents Conference USA from demanding arbitration to make a third party rule on the schools’ ability to leave. “The Court finds that Marshall faces immediate and irreparable injury and is likely to succeed on the merits,” the Cabell County Circuit Court said in its decision. “If Marshall is forced to proceed with arbitration, it will violate the West Virginia Constitution and the United States Constitution. Moreover, the Court finds the balance of equities favor Marshall and that granting the Motion for Temporary Restraining Order is in the public interest.” Old Dominion has filed a similar motion to prevent arbitration. The first hearing on that matter is slated for Tuesday. read more: https://thespun.com/college-football/breaking-conference-usa-receives-temporary-restraining-order

Great list -- And you have it in the right order. Football should be at the top of the priorities. It's the main problem and after that we have to update the athletic center asap.

Their stadium is nothing special. It seems like it would not take up that many donations to get something similar for ourselves?

Looks like a good crowd!
