The auto industry won't do it for the same reason they won't offer small trucks with diesels in the US...... because people in America won't buy them. Continue to want bigger and bigger SUVs and that is what they will make... the increase in oil prices should change that in a sane world... but thats not where we live. What I wouldn't give for a 4x4 Ranger with a 4cyl turbo diesel that will run biodiesel. The fossil fuel industry is another story all together.... Shane

This email has been circulating for years and years. It has never worked and will never work. What will work is to buy more fuel efficient vehicles, use alternative fuel sources, buy less fuel and reduce the demand.... therefore increasing the supply and reducing price... simple economics. Its the same theory as the email except that you can't trick economics. Shane

Not as large as you would think... one more bunk game like last year and it will be done. Shane

Rivals article,..who is the next Urban Meyer..
shaneb replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
In Texas??? The Big 12. Period, end of story. You are not a Big 12 team you are not major in Texas. It sucks, but I dont love the Mean Green any less because of it. If you are going to compare the attendance, support, strength of schedule and national popularity of Texas Tech, Texas A&M and Texas with that of North Texas, TCU or UTEP... then I want some of what you are smoking. totally agree.. I have stated before that I am scared about what this game will do to the QB both physically and mentally. This is not a good place to roll out your whole stable....

Meager may be a tough kid, but LSU and Tiger Stadium are going to be four quarters of hell for ANY quarterback who has not taken a snap in a D1a game.... You may not believe it, but unless you are there and you hear the crowd and you see the QB getting hit, then you can't possibly understand the punishment a QB can take there if the OL lightens up and the LSU D gets firing right. All I have to say is that if he goes to change the play at the line he better find a way to turn his head inside his helmet and scream out his earhole... even the drunkest Tiger fan picks up on that movement from the very top of those outrageously tall upper decks. I think if a kid wasn't strong in the head that opening his career at Tiger Stadium behind a less than stellar OL could negatively affect his career for a long time. Thankfully Marcus Spears is no longer there... he sacked the Troy quarterback 3 times in the first half last year. Being hit by that man has to feel like being hit by a freight train. Seeya, Shane

Greenspace is very important for a campus.. its one of the things that students and parents look for. Attractive campus' bring better students and more students. And the look of the campus in 1995 really turned me off... I thought about it a lot when choosing NT. Now I wouldnt think twice. The campus looks better and better everytime I go back. Why do you think the university tore out parking lots, frat houses and other stuff to build greenspace into the campus? The fact that it was demanded by the Denia residents made people here knee-jerk into reacting poorly towards it... but the location is a good idea and it will be nice to have for students who are staying on that side of the interstate. Stock that little pond... make it catch and release... what I wouldnt have given to be able to walk out of my dorm and go fishing!!! On the same note, I think closing Ave. C to traffic is a great idea. The inner campus at Baylor and other schools is closed to traffic and now that there are not as many parking lots adjacent to that road it should be closed. They closed this road once before when I was in school and it went over like a fart in church because there was still so much parking along there, but I think they have done away with much of that and plan to do away with the rest. Well...... hell....... since its going to get locked anyhow! The Greatest political platform ever!!!!! From www.kinkyfriedman.com THE STATE OF POLITICS Today, Texans have no choice for their leadership except paper or plastic. Political parties are for sale to the highest bidder, and lobbyists control the Texas Legislative agenda. "A fool and his money are soon elected. " - Kinky Friedman Current Texas election laws make it nearly impossible for a non-party candidate to get on the ballot. Perhaps this explains why only 25 percent of eligible Texas voters participated in the last gubernatorial election. Texans need real representation, and they’re not getting it. "The career politicians are keeping the elevator at the penthouse floor and not sending it down for the rest of us." - Kinky Friedman The two major parties spent $100 million in the last gubernatorial election for a job that pays $100,000. Do the math. Nope - it doesn’t add up. "I’m running this campaign on the coin of the spirit. I need your help." - Kinky Friedman Texas was founded by independent, courageous, honorable citizens. The last great Independent elected governor of Texas was Sam Houston, over a hundred and fifty years ago. Texas needs a strong independent voice, if it is ever to regain its greatness. "If you elect me, I’ll be the first Governor in Texas history with a listed phone number." - Kinky Friedman EDUCATION REFORM: Priority One The young people of Texas are our future, and we must treat them as such. They are our number one resource for that future. The current government seems to prefer band-aids over solid planning for the next generations of Texas. A Texas revolution is needed in our school systems. "No teacher left behind" - Kinky Friedman Texas is #1 in drop out rates and #48 in education spending. Our children deserve so much more. Texas is also 48th in per capita child protection expenditures, as well as 49th in general, 46th in mental health, 45th in public health, 49th in state arts agency, 44th in highway, and 49th in water quality expenditures. The Austin American-Statesman is correct: "It’s Texas vs. Mississippi in a race to the bottom." Teachers are Kinky’s heroes, along with police, soldiers, firefighters, and cowboys. Each of us remembers a teacher who made an impact on and changed our lives for the better. Kinky intends to identify these special people and seek their advice in creating a vibrant, responsive and forward-looking education system for Texas. "Politicans appear to be more interested in French cuffs than solving our problems." - Kinky Friedman TEXAS PEACE CORPS Kinky will create an in-state volunteer agency, modeled after the Peace Corps, in which he served, to promote the arts and life skills in Texas schools. Musicians and artists, along with retired teachers, business executives, and police, will join us in teaching our kids how to act, play music, paint, write a check, keep accounts, and stay out of trouble. Kinky will ask his friends, including Laura Bush, Willie Nelson, Richard ‘Racehorse’ Haynes, and former UT Coach Darrell Royal, to lead this effort. "Never say **** in front of a c-h-i-l-d." - Kinky Friedman CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM Kinky is not anti-death penalty, just opposed to executing the wrong person! DNA has released dozens of improperly convicted people from death rows all over America. We’ve learned that juries and testimony are not infallible. There are cases in which the death penalty is warranted, but there is no disputing the obvious: Texas executes people who may be innocent. Taking a life is a grave responsibility - no pun intended. Two thousand years ago an innocent man named Jesus Christ, was executed; Kinky’s question is: "What have we learned in two thousand years?" NEW ENERGY: Kinky To Make Texas #1 Again For decades, Texas was #1 in US oil and gas exploration. It once even led the world! Texas can reclaim its role as world leader in new energy production with alternative solutions. Kinky is our ‘energizer’ candidate. WILLIE AND KINKY: Bio-Diesel Buddies Bio-diesel fuel powers Willie Nelson’s famous bus, the Honeysuckle Rose. Bio-diesel, eco-friendly and produced from agricultural products - even reclaimed frying grease - is a first step in the right direction. Willie will work with Kinky in promoting and developing bio-diesel and all of Texas’ vast, untapped, environmentally friendly resources. Currently, we’re using this fuel source for landfill. Surely, pulling a rutabaga out of the ground is more cost-effective than drilling a two-mile-deep hole in the sand. "How hard could it be?" - Kinky Friedman. ABOLISH POLITICAL CORRECTNESS Political correctness must be abolished. Texans need to be told the truth. Texans do not need opaque, carefully scripted press releases.. "A man oughtta be able to light his cigar once in a while." - Kinky Friedman DE-WUSSIFICATION Our icons are being demeaned. Cowboys are no longer heroes for our children, but subject to derision. We are being laughed at instead of respected in the rest of the country. What has happened to our glorious heritage? This is the great state of Texas! We are not wusses, we are Texans. "We will beat back the wussification of Texas if we have to do it one wuss at a time." - Kinky Friedman. IN SUMMARY KINKY MAY BE THE ONLY PERSON IN TEXAS WHO CAN MAKE REAL CHANGES IN HOW TEXANS ARE GOVERNED, PROTECTED AND SUPPORTED BY THEIR LEADERS. TEXAS NEEDS HELP. WE NEED TO PUT A REAL GOVERNOR ON HER. VOTE KINKY. YOU’LL LIKE IT. VOTE KINKY!!!!! ShaneB

Isnt that just a little more than an overstatement. I certianly know that none of the HS in my district have them. Plus, there are SO MANY other things we need to spend that money on.

My notes and what I took away from the first
shaneb replied to calvin's topic in Mean Green Football
That's frightening... and if its the case then they better put a tackling dummy in at Tiger Stadium. That place has a way of destroying quarterbacks both mentally and physically. Shane -
Ouch! That hurts considering our DL's of the recent past. Shane

If you are in the top quarter a minimum of 950 should not be much of a threat.

I agree with a LOT of what Pohl did. He was always fair to me and he was always personable. He did great things for the "feeling" of the university, for the amount of students who live on campus and for the spirit of the student body. BUT the backlash that he took from the faculty was well deserved after the tenure issues. Most of the professors who were not affected were dissapointed NOT with the decision to deny tenure... but Pohl's underhanded way of handling it and delaying the hearings, the results and the FOI requests. He wanted to show his support for a new Provost (who in my opinion isnt worth the airfare it cost us to fly him here) and thats why he drug his feet. I wish that Lee Jackson would be shown the door... but the provost better go with him. ShaneB

Nothing in Fouts will ever truly be deafening. Loud? Sure, but not deafening.
