It's possible that Yamaha is even providing use of the drums in exchange for their logo being so prominent. Besides the visibility, Yamaha also gets field-testing of their R&D efforts - this is cutting-edge equipment. I was in the percussion section back in the early '80s, before such arrangements. We had some very old Ludwigs which weren't even green, and we resorted to covering the shells with chrome-colored contact paper! GreenBrigadeDebbie might have some insight...

Thanks for posting it, Deep. I'll have to listen. Although 560 is weaker at night than during the day, I think you'll still be able to pick it up most everywhere in Houston. If not, hopefully you have internet access.

Funny his name should suddenly appear - I was looking at IMDB after talking about "Necessary Roughness" with a co-worker the other day, and stumbled on this: Dennis Parker .... Prison Guard I wasn't around Denton when he was coach, so I don't know what he looks like, but why wouldn't it be him? I'm sure FFR can confirm it...

DISH Network's program guide lists the game on ch. 445. But I know that they black out some games, so until game time, who knows?

Was anyone else there for the "Mean Green March"? DD and the team were all in black then too, but not the jerseys. And not only was DD wearing all black, he had dark shades on, and had a smirk on his face as he walked on through. I wondered what he was thinking - "What the h*ll am I doing this for"? "So long, suckers"? It was surreal. And, in my opinion, unprofessional.

I'm sorry, I can't help it - this is the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw his picture... Separated at birth? Mickey Matthews . . . Herb Tarlek (Frank Bonner) from WKRP! But seriously - I'm impressed. * Texas born & bred * experience at several Texas schools (yes, it was a while ago) * assistant coach at an SEC school that won bowl games * won 1AA championship at JMU in 2004

There's nothing wrong with the song - it's the arrangement - or lack thereof - that's the problem. The same short section is played over and over, like a broken record (now I'm dating myself!). Check out the wiki on "Fly Like an Eagle" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fly_Like_an_Eagle - someone included North Texas in it! If we're the only university who uses it, I think that's a good reason to keep it. You can't complain that we stole this tradition from another school. And I like the lyrics - http://www.gangster-of-love.com/songflae.html - yes, kind of utopian, but it has a can-do attitude that I think is fitting for NT.

I have a 128k mp3 copy (which I must have gotten from a source on this board - don't quite remember though). Send me a PM with your E-mail address and I'll send it to you. Congratulations!

I just KNEW it had to be something consoling - once again, you are all class. My seats are in upper section D, so I had a close-up view of the FIU staff coming down from the press box. They all had this look of dejection on their faces - I just let them go down the steps ahead of me... Thanks for the link. Lately there's so many posts that if you miss a couple of days, it's hard to catch up & read everything! -
...that was laying face down on the turf in "the agony of defeat"? If it was, what did you say to him?

Are you there for Florida International?

I'll be there. What's the status of the Bonfire? If it's on, I'll try to get on the road Friday afternoon. Just noticed that the Homecoming mailing lists the time of the parade on Saturday as "1:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.". Wow, the Green Brigade is going to be worn out! -

The game is on ESPN Gameplan. We (NT Exes Gulf Coast Chapter) are having a game-watching party in Houston. Why not try e-mailing someone in the Austin chapter to see if they are as well? Check out the NT Exes Austin Chapter page.

Houstonians! Can't make it to Denton for the game?
NT Drummer replied to NT Drummer's topic in Mean Green Football
I know what you mean - one of our games last year was at the same time as the UT - Ohio State game. I was worried about SRO being overrun by UT fans, but it turned out to be filled with Ohio State fans. They had a P.A. system and a recording of their fight song! But SRO does a great job of giving every alumni group their own party area, with a big screen. They're very helpful no matter what size group. -
I was able to use the files that are on the branding pages of the unt.edu website (www.unt.edu/branding/imagemarks/spiritmarks_eagles.htm) on my Nokia 6103 using the Nokia PC Suite software and a bluetooth adapter on my PC. The next thing I want to do is create a fight song ring tone, but I haven't had time to do that yet. Don't know if I'll use an MP3 or create a midi version, but I doubt I'll do more than a few bars - it would be too long (and too large)!

If only Texas Instruments was more of a consumer products company, I think they would be a perfect sponsor, since their headquarters is in Richardson (I hope that's right). I don't suppose any of their founders went to NT... I noticed that they are starting to run some TV commercials touting their DSP technology. Maybe they DO want name recognition, a la "Intel Inside". Of course, TI might think they've already given UNT enough, i.e. the Engineering campus.

KAFR apparently transmits from somewhere near Conroe. You probably can pull it in where you are, but here in Sugar Land I can barely get it in my car, and can't get it at all in my house. I wish we could get a station that broadcasts from one of the Missouri City towers.

Football Pro Awasom to hold summer camp in Stafford The Fort Bend Star is one of the free local weekly newspapers here in Ft. Bend County. AA went to High School in Stafford. The article doesn't mention NT at all, but it's good to hear about him, and great that he's doing this.
