Ward Melville High School class of 1978 (Long Island, NY) - named for the man who owned Thom McAnn Shoes, and was a local philanthropist. The most famous person to come from my high school (that I'm aware of) is the wrestler "Mankind" - his dad was the head of the school's Phys Ed dept.

Designers selecting mascot for Dallas campus
NT Drummer replied to NTEagle08's topic in Mean Green Football
As far as I know, none of the UH system schools other than the flagship have sports teams, never mind mascots, and I think that is by design (although they do seem to each have their own colors). Here in Sugar Land, we have a UH System "campus" (currently one building) where "distance learning" classes are offered by all of the different UH schools. Since my wife has taken some accounting classes offered by UHD over the past few years, I've been there more than a few times. There is an effort made to get the students of the other system schools to support the UH Cougars, and I think that given all of the schools are in the same metro area (even UH-Victoria is only 100 miles away), that is the right approach. The UNT System would be wise to follow that model, but it doesn't look like they will. As for the UT and A&M system schools having sports teams, different mascots, and different colors: - the system schools are not in the same metro area as the flagship - many of the schools were originally independent - - UTEP was originally Texas Western U - - UTA was originally Arlington State U - - TX A&M Commerce was originally ETSU - - West TX A&M was originally WTSU -
I just checked the DVD to make sure. It was the old "Quack Shack" - not only can you see the Administration building in the distance, down the hill, but Bruce Hall is just across the street. Is that where they are going to build the new student health center? Has that building been torn down? Anyway, Get well, DD!

That stinks. I guess that's why there's so many missing pictures. I suppose they have to make money somehow, and they were probably getting taken advantage of by a lot of aspiring actors. The "Me as Rowdy the Armadillo" picture would have been perfect, but we'll just have to live with your credit the way it is.

I finally got it on DVD - it's way better in Wide Screen. Check the bargain DVD bin at Wal-Mart - you might find it for $5.50 I was checking out what imdb.com had on the movie - FFR has his own page since he was listed in the credits: Rick McKinney .... special thanks But the page is empty Rick, you need to at least upload a picture of yourself. Do you have a picture when you're in the Armadillo suit, but with the head off, showing your face? As for writing a bio for you, maybe that's a job that Plumm would take on

funny high school team names

I always thought that Kermit should be the Frogs - maybe they'll change it now: Kermit Honored in Kermit, Texas I also got a kick out of the Lewisville Fighting Farmers. Does the Water tower in Lewisville right by 35E still have the painting of the football player attacking with a pitchfork? -
Good article in the Houston Chronicle: Aggies dodge Mean Green - North Texas' shot to upset host A&M misses at buzzer

gmg.com: HOUSTON GAME MOVED TO DENTON Dec 23 at the Super Pit Since the game is no longer is in Houston, and it's now at 1pm, I guess there isn't much of a reason to have a happy hour that evening. Especially that it's the Friday night just before Christmas. How about we shoot for early January? Now the location (i.e. which side of town) is truly open for discussion.

Just read about it in the Houston Chronicle - here's the article: UH agrees to play 'home' date away This is a "win-win" situation for everyone - except those of us in Houston I guess we won't be having a happy hour before the game...

The Gulf Coast chapter IS the Houston chapter, but it also is supposed to serve as the chapter for those in surrounding areas (Beaumont, Victoria, etc.). If you remember, I organized the football game-watching parties. I've been thinking about having the Gulf Coast chapter host a happy hour before the game with UH ever since someone posted a couple of weeks ago about making a road trip to the game. Now I just have to get off of my butt and do something about it - stay tuned. Any suggestions for a location? In the meantime, I'll e-mail the chapter president to find out why there haven't been any board meetings since September.

Hate to tell you, but the sprawl is reaching Richmond/Rosenberg now. And there's a UH satellite campus at 59 just before the Brazos - just one building now, but Wharton County JC is going to build a building there soon, and eventually I think it will become a separate school like UH - Clear Lake or UH - Victoria..

Brave Combo rules! I've been a Brave Combo fan as long as I've been a Mean Green fan. A band that truly can't be categorized - they even did an album backing Tiny Tim! Their website: http://www.brave.com/bo/

See if you can pick up KAFR-FM 88.3 - it's a Christian station based in Conroe, and just "joined" the Mean Green radio network this year. I can barely get it down in Sugar Land (SW Houston), but maybe it has enough range to be picked up in Aggie land.

A Night on Campus without Athletics.
NT Drummer replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Cooperation between the Athletic Department & the College of Music - that's great! And I'm glad to hear the GB is up to 300 members - they really have a good full sound now. I don't think the UT Longhorn band is that much larger. The only problem is that the drum line's during-game performances werre literally during the game - while plays were ocurring. If they don't do it anymore, it might be because of the same conference rule which makes the band stop when a play starts. The band usually plays whole tunes during time-outs; maybe the drum line could take one of the time-outs by itself. -
Oops - that didn't come out right. Hopefully someone can fix it...

As per the ESPN site: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/schedules For those of you in Houston - edcollopy, H-towngreen, FireFightnJoey, HoustonEagle, IslandEagle, ... - who would attend? Where would you prefer to get together, SRO, Champps, Knuckleheads? If the Astros are still alive, game 6 will start at 6:30pm - we should be able to watch both. If I think we'll be able to get at least 15 people, I'll make the arrangements. To quote Joel from Mystery Science Theater 3000: "What do you think, sirs?"
