Denton's last movie theaters close
CAV replied to NT80's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
The Denton City Council from 4-5 years ago is to blame for this mistake, because The Rave was originally going to be built on I-35E across from the new restaurants that are on the east side of the freeway. The council at that time was very non-development and did not pass the zoning required to build the theatre. So The Rave was built it in Hickory Creek (a town that does not have any "real" zoning) and the rest is history. -
It's not easy to find, but the easiest way is is to go south on Ft. Worth Dr and turn right on Acme St. (After Sonic) then take a left on Bernard St. and you will run into the Denia Complex. You can also get there off of McCormick St. when it dead ends take a left.

I also work with a lot of faculty and several are season ticket holders who support Athetics, but if the faculty wants to draw a line in the sand about this then I'm ready to go to war. By the time we are finished they will be a dying breed.

He works in the journalism department. Enough said! Fortunately, the Keith Shelton's on campus are a dying breed, but to Mean Green fans they can't die off soon enough. I applaud the Board of Regents it's about time this University did something for Athletics. With new state retirement regulations going in soon a lot of old NTSU old timers are dropping out of this place like flies this month. I hope we see a couple of old timers from Journalism go by the wayside. His UNT email is shelton@unt.edu

This question is like deja vu! Right Stacey!

Thanks for the info. On playing at Denia the city is improving the south parking lot and the concessions/bath rooms are fine. It would be nice to see working scoreboards and more stands available when we start to play at Denia. I guess locker rooms/etc. will have to wait until we get the Liberty Christian property. Also, the city needs to put up better directional signage to get fans to Denia Park from both Ft. Worth Dr. and McCormick. This is not only needed before we start to play at Denia, but it needs to be in place before the Girls 12 and under State Tournament. Another thing about Denia is all four fields don't drain that well, so if it rains pretty hard count on not playing. It might be wise to get a tarp for the main field you plan on playing on if possible. Fields 1 and 2 face away from the sun and fields 3 & 4 face the sun. It would be great to see and UNT sponsored scoreboard in the Denia Neighborhood at night.

UNT was never assigned a broadcast TV station! KERA/KDTN had a psuedo-studio and an office at TWU for several years after they applied for the FCC license to broadcast on the frequency. UNT RTVF's department does have a cable channel 22 on Charter Cable and RTVF now has two great new studios after the remodeling of the old Speech and Drama building which is now the RTVF Building. In the 90's I helped produce a magazine type show called "Denton Quarterly". The shows executive producers were Charlie Orbison and JoAnn Ballentine. It mainly featured stories on local issues or people. But after they quit the show, public TV does not pay well, it has not been in production since '97. KERA also had interest in the Denton City Council Elections in the early 90's. They came to Sammons Studios and taped City Council debates that did air on channel 2. But, for the last several years I don't know if KERA/KDTN has produced any local programming about Denton.

Stacey, do you know if the UNT Bookstore will carry any UNT Softball shirts or hats soon? If they did, I would wear it to all of my daughter's softball tournaments, and it would be great advertising letting people know UNT is starting a softball program! Also, there is going to be a State 12 and under tournament I think at North Lakes or Denia this summer. It would be nice to see UNT Softball posters at the parks. Especially at Denia Park.
-
Stacy, are you going to have a Girls Softball Summer camp this year? If so, I have a group of girls ages 11-12 who would love to attend a local camp! Besides, I don't want to consider sending them to the other University in town.

I have wanted to rewrite or edit the words to Little Texas' Song "God Bless Texas" to "God Bless North Texas"!

Other notes..... UNT is going to break ground a new Science Building just north of Bruce Hall in March, but I feel The College of Business needs a new building before SOVA. Space in going to free up on Campus in the next couple of years when the UNT Reseach Park is fully operational.

If you see the story let us know what it was about! They were shooting footage around the Student Rec. Center.

You guys want to complain about a website designed by Sean Johnson! I think Eric Capper is doing a great job. I will agree the current website is weak, but I will wait and pass my judgement when the new website is unveiled. Randy Cummings and Jerry Scott are in charge of the new website and they have both told me that the new website will be posted soon. I hope to see more daily informtion and an expanded multimedia section. Video highlights, audio interviews, and daily new updates, etc. I don't know if they are planning on doing this, but I know where they can get it done!

Hey Rob, The athletic gap starts early. I have coached both girls and boys soccer teams for the last 4-5 years and you notice the difference between the sexes very early on. I have coached my oldest daughter who is 10, where she has played up in the under 12 division for the last 2 years, and I have coached my son who is 7. I have seen 7-8 year old boys play harder, run faster, and make incredible plays on the field. With the girls they play hard, play as a team and don't give up but you don't see (except in a very few players) the great athletic plays like you do when watching a boys game. The boys I coach are 3-4 years younger than the girls and their athletic ability on average is better. This post is not meant to slam the girls, but to make the point that even at an early age the gap in even noticeable.
