  1. Yeah this is pretty disappointing. So many hopes for this team and this opportunity, then one presents itself that the greater UNT Community can rally behind and participate in and we botch it. I will wait and see what happens with Dan but I have many questions about my University. I invest a lot of time, emotional energy and resources to support this team. The fact that I am so unenthused with this hire is simply bizarre. Poetic justice would be having Canales end up in Cajun land and coming back and kicking our arse. I would get a big smile and cheer him on. Dan, sir, you have much work to do. Please introduce yourself and get to work as hard as my interim head coach has done for the past 5 weeks. If you have any hesitation about how much work you have ahead of you, please decline this offer and do not come to DFW.
  2. That is why I say let them apply and we can consider them if they bring enough to the conference at that time. We may not even be in the SBC when this happens.
  3. Just glad to see them excited about making a big time splash. Wish I felt the same with our looming coaching announcement.
  4. He is ready to coach again. Coaches don't all of a sudden lose that passion unless you are Jimmy Johnson. Now you get to beat up on D1A programs which are quite beatable in Las Cruces, Moscow, San Jose and Logan. Your toughest foe lives in a place called Ruston. You have a natural rival 30 miles up the road. This situation is plum and the only one juicier lives in Denton where you get slightly tougher foes, a manic hungry fanbase, and a new house to decorate with W's. Fran cannot lose either way and he will build a power wherever he lands. People that enjoy the stage do not like being on it. Still holding out faith that my Mean Green don't screw this up. gmg
  5. Yep my cousins in from SA for the holidays are giddy over Coker and the Wac. You throw in TSU and Fran and ladies and gentlemen we are quickly on our way to being passed by. Good ole UNT. God help us get a leadership with some vision, passion and goals for the bigger time.
  6. Thanks Frog Fan! I am hoping for Canales first and Fran second. If they bring the beater in am going to root for the jersey and that is it. My support for the U will not change one way or the other. It won't go up and it won't go down. It will be just another day at North Texas. Am I am the only one who wants to see a TCU vs Oregon matchup? I think the D vs O battle would be awesome! I will say that my contribution and and support of the Mean Green will go up if Canales or Fran get the job. Either way I am instantly a fan of wherever Canales lands - Texas State should really reach out and grab him. GMG
  7. With all due respect to our Pony fan I am confident we would not only compete with SMU for that MWC slot, but beat them out of it too. Those Western programs that will rue the conference roost know SMU and UNT by more than name. They understand what UNT brings to the table and what SMU does. It is clearly slanted in the favor of UNT on all fronts. Football - great coach SMU - new coach and stadium UNT Basketball - SMU = aweful - Tournament champions and tourney appearances = UNT Enrollment - SMU (worse than TCU from a fanbase perspective) - UNT unbridled potential History with MWC - SMU lackluster (not TCU)- UNT familiarity from our 1AA and Big West days Location - SMU - great - UNT - great I just think we beat out SMU for an invite. It is SMU's last stand to show superiority over UNT which is a mirage in this new day and age. UNT has so much to offer the MWC, Big East or Big 12. CUSA is a cute conference but I am not impressed. Go bold and make the mountaintop the baseline. Our 10 year plan should have us strategically positioned to enter a conference with Tech, Baylor, A&M and Texas, wherever they lie in 2020. GMG
  8. Trust your intuition, and mine is saying this is going to be an ugly hire. I am one of the biggest RV supporters on this board but if this is the direction we go and it fails I would be willing to search for a new AD. I am sorry - I would rather have Fran or Leach or Leavitt or Canales or Rodriguez or Fulmer... Why we would not go out and get these 2 points covered: 1. Div 1A coaching experience 2. Winning Div 1A coaching experience is beyond me. I feel like the balloon is losing air big time. GMG
  9. I must say that i am bummed that we lost in LA on Saturday, mostly because I find myself cheering for Canales to get a fair shot at this gig. I want someone who wants UNT - playing and simple. Canales has won me over in a short period of time becuase i see what our program has always lacked - a big dose of Mean Green pride. Canales will never let us think we shouldn't be competing with the Tech's and Aggies of the world or playing second fiddle to TCU and SMU. I want that spirit and fire from our next coach and i can only imagine what Canales could do surrounded by his own people and recruits. Having Canales show up in my living room to encourage me to entrust my kid to him for a few years would be mesmorizing. You can just tell Canales teaches life skills and principles that help young men become stronger. Heck look at what he has done with our squad with some focused practices and encouragement. I use to be a monster Fran guy and love that Leach put Tech on the map, but if I were sitting down listening to the 3 talk about the future of my program I am confident who would put forth the most passion for my University. Canales will be an amazing head coach and I can only hope he gets a fair shot to be mine. GMG
  10. June Jones and SMU will make a monster push to get back West. Jones weilds power at the University he coaches at and he would love to play Hawaii and all of Western programs again. We need to make a push to get into the MWC and why not go with SMU. This would be a new salty western league: Boise State - ID Hawaii - HI Wyoming - WY New Mexico - NM UNLV - NV Nevada - NV Colorado State - CO Air Force - CO San Diego State - CA Fresno State - CA North Texas - TX SMU - TX If you want Pacific and Mountain divisions you have: Hawaii Boise SDSU Fresno State Reno UNLV Wyoming North Texas SMU Air Force Wyoming Colorado State New Mexico Annual Championship game in Las Vegas. Bowl Games include: Las Vegas Bowl, New Mexico Bowl, Humanitarian Bowl, Hawaii Bowl
  11. Our Student Section goal should be to strive for that Gonzaga crowd that turns out for every game in the Kennel. We sounded as crazy as they were on TV the other night so now it is about sustainability. Need to ratchet it up early and loud on Tuesday - never let Rice get out of the box. GMG
  12. SDSU is a beast in bball and their programs are definitely on the rise. Still don't see them as big of an MWC force as the others I mentioned, primarily due to longevity. Rebels match up tragically with SDSU and will again this year. However, I love the MWC and anything can happen - first up beat the Badgers! R-E-B-E-L-S R-E-B-E-L-S R-E-B-E-L-S with chop block in tow. Good win over Gonzaga - great for the conference. GMG
  13. I watched the game on the the net and it was awesome! I felt like I was there and I had not had that level of excitement since I listened to the UNT win over NMSU to send us to New Orleans back in the days. I am psyched to be able to attend the Rice and UTA games and I think we need some post game goals to keep this momentum flowing. For example, I live in Vegas and go to Rebel games all of the time. They pride themselves on leading the West in attendance. They had 9,000 show up for an exhibition. Their rich history will allow them to draw the casual fans like me. However, UNT is in some new territory. We can totally trumpet our basketball attendance and maybe make it a visual contest - show UT's attendance and then SMU's attendance and keep it running throughout the season. All of a sudden you get people who want to make sure UNT stays in the upper echelon. You start mixing in a total from Texas A&M and TCU and now we are right there in the talk with the recognized programs - competing, beating and leading. Not sure what the timeout activities are, but give away IPOD touches for the students to keep them coming back. Get a round trip on SW Airlines to interest the alums. UNLV has a dj handle the timeout activities and he always gets them pumped up before the team comes back to play. Again make it an event and a memory worth returning to and now you build loyalty and energy beyond reason. GMG
  14. I think this game is going to be fun! The K State faithful will be down here in force and in the spirit of South Florida this would be a giant killer win for the Mean Green. I think UNT puts up a mean fight and plays above their head in the closing game. That still may not spell a W but we are going to end this season proud and excited for the future. First up - beat down the Warhawks! GMG
  15. Our next destination of push needs to be the Mountain West after TCU leaves. I truly feel our programs are on the rise and it is not just football anymore. I went to the UNLV game last night against SE LA of the Southland it reminded me just how far we have come since I have been following the Mean Green. Basketball is STRONG in the MWC and you add in North Texas and now you have serious basketball prowess: UNLV Reno New Mexico North Texas You have solid football programs: Boise State Reno Fresno Air Force North Texas You start jumping around in the bouncehouse with the Broncos, Runnin Rebels, Falcons and Wolfpack and that is a nice neighborhood to move into. GMG
  16. I go to a lot of UNLV basketball games and have seen my share of the Lobos in the Pit. That crowd tonight was a loud and on as any I have ever witnessed in the Thomas & Mack or on Bob King Court, NM. Watched the game online. I wanted to be there so bad! Way to go GREEN!!!!! GMG
  17. Or how about Beat X banners - we could hang them all week as good publicity for the upcoming tilt. We could even recycle our conference mates - hey that is GREEN, right? Create a Beat Indiana, Beat the Coogs...
  18. Can we paint them with words on the tower base or the fan blades? I have never seen those fly so fast that you can make out the words! GMG
  19. How about "Thats a Wrap" and get a burrito joint to sponsor it! GMG
  20. AT 6 and 6 could we go bowling - just by winning out! Go Mean Green
  21. He strikes me as a leader who loves a challenge and UNT sure is a challenge with huge upswing. You get a chance to bring your expertise and game to one of the richest recruiting grounds in the country. You get to share the headlines with June Jones and the #4 team in the country. You are in the home of the Dallas Cowboys and World Series bound Rangers. You get to open a brand spanking new palace, the newest in college football, get the Mean Green back into SBC contention and get us moved up to a bigger league or into one of the Big 6. It screams Awesome Opportunity! Do not underestimate how appealing this opportunity is. It is an opportunity to create a national program in a new nest, with a massive fanbase waiting to erupt. GOMEANGREEN!!!!!
  22. As painful as this was isn't it some ways 10,000 better than another close loss? This game left no doubt about where we are, where they are and reinforced the fact that this call needs to be made now. GMG
  23. just remember this moment MG fans. it is low but it is not forever. remember those empty stands and that empty feeling. No one in the Belt has emerged as the BYU of the Belt, so we don't have a monster climb with the right set of pieces in place: stadium - check awesome tailgating - check good ooc games in the next few years - check it is time to roll up the sleeves and get to work and get the Mean Green train back on the track! GMG
  24. i was all for giving dodge another year (this year),especially with the changes we saw on his staff. But Emmitt was right. I respect RV for taking the risk in the first place. So much good has happened in the past 4 years despite this horrific football experiment. I wish Todd and his family nothing but the best in the future. It is time to read the next chapter. I trust RV and we are going to make a splash. The SBC is ready for the Mean Green to come back. GMG
  25. I watched it on Gameplan and was about to fall asleep. Why is it that one team looks like a college football team and the other a high school squad? I like Cristobal - he has developed a team over his years there and Dodge and run ours into the ground. Really shocking. The first thing I want our new coach to do is get rid of that puke high school looking green we wear! I mean it will always remind me of these tragic years of Dodgeball and I don't want to remember much from this era. We look small. We look weak in toothpaste green. We look disinterested. It is time for a COMPLETELY new start! Use the stadium as a excuse to change every terrible thing about this program as it currently now sits. Go Alma Mater! I love the University of North Texas!
