Okay at the risk of bringing up a uniform comment I must. At least I can watch Maryland today. There alternate uni a 1000% improvement. West Virginia is going to give the Frogs all they want in the BE if there is a Big East in the coming years. GMG

The Sun Belt gets respect tonight - FIU over UCF - ESPN loves the black knights so bring it Golden Panthers! ULM - TCU doesn't even know who you are - go into frogland and play your hearts out. Arkie State - go stun whatever a Hokie is. Let's go Troy! UNT - stay healthy and cover baby cover! GMG

So I am in the Fremont Experience watching this great 80's band called the Whip Its on stage - zip liners flying above, creatures and characters taking photographs etc etc etc. This guys comes up to me after noticing my Mean Green shirt and says, "Dude are you all going to cover tomorrow? They are giving you 47 points. I was reluctant to go with my heart because I too have heard about betting and your own team...He was like, "You really think Alabama is going to beat you all by 47 points? I hated that I couldn't feel confident at 46 or even 43. He left dejected because he wants those 47 bad. After he left I thought - no way we get beat by 47. As I told him, it will be a mercy victory for the Tide. They will win by 40. Going to the Hawaii game at UNLV tomorrow - they will again have 15 - 20 thousand draped in green tea leaves and war paint going strong. Oh how I would love to go to Sam Boyd to watch the Mean Green play a conference game. Go Mean Green!!!!!

Passing through albuquerque last night the talk show hosts were saying that this would be good for UNM so they could gain an identity playing lower competition. The fanline was blowing up though. They were not happy about it. Crazy how everybody all of sudden wants to go to where we have been banished to for my entire UNT fandom career. Programs want to break rivalries, we want rivalries. Schools want to fly all over the country, we want a regional league. Programs want to lessen the competition to gain respect, we want to get better fast to make the super conference cut. If we do go 1AA again which is essentially what the new league would be I hope we are the Montana or Grand Valley State, or Boise or Georgia Southern or Appalachian State. College football is becoming very seedy and boring, like the NFL IMHO. Big 12 stays together I bet because Texas wants to be a big dog and it is either where they are or in the ACC. GMG If it breaks lets get a strong midwestern league: Houston Iowa State Baylor North Texas SMU UTEP Tulsa Rice Middle Tennessee Southern Miss Troy Memphis GMG

I see this as a strong possibility: FIU - Sun Belt Champions Houston - CUSA Champions Alabama - SEC Champions What a way to open a season. I think we unleash the experience and fire on Indiana and get our first W of the season. Be There! GMG

Can we get the concessions to take credit cards? I feel a cash only situation is really outdated. Not to mention the ATM machine was packed. I missed half the 3rd quarter waiting in two lines - that is why we lost! Sorry if this was already posted, but at UNLV games I just swipe drink and eat. GMG

Baylor is grasping at straws. Who on earth in Mean Green gear could have sympathy for a team and fans who have to travel all over the place to see their sons and daughters play. Cry me a river already. Welcome to life in the Sun Belt, Big West, WAC and Mountain West. Oh wait, you are about to be welcomed to the Mountain West. Enjoy Reno, Boise and Laramie. Go Mean Green!!!!! P.S. - Let's climb the Mountain (West) first.

I laugh about this de javu thread too. But how crazy was it that Houston didn't bring their band, cheerleaders and mascot. I guess they thought they were playing North of Texas. With that said that ladies and gentlemen is why I hope we can somehow land in a conference with some Texas teams. How great would it be to have 3k - 4k visiting fans each and every game sprinkled throughout the palace. Now I won't say no to the Mountain West, but if we can start playing more Texas foes in the future I think we will all benefit from the great exposure. Yes that includes the Bobcats and the Roadkills from down south. GMG

I just loved the enthusiasm of the students and fans in that stadium. The experience at Apogee made the experience at Fouts over the past 25 years feel like a glorified high school experience. It is wonderful to walk into our new home and feel a semi-pro state of the art environment. It still had a college atmosphere with pro amenities. It was just awesome and I cannot wait to return! GMG

no apologies brotha! The day is upon us. No apologies for the upset of H-town either! Go Mean Green!!!!!

okay officially pumped. well i was a little geeked before that but Coach Mac and crew are ready for redemption on Saturday! GMG

Tragic. Definitely the worst I have seen. Oregon has never had anything on this look. That academy awards/lady gaga sleeve was just beautiful. horrible. GMG

I am glad the players were devastated after that performance. It was hard to watch, impossible to defend and took some air out of the weekend and opening. Granted it will get ramped up before Saturday, but looking so bad and Houston looking so good I know I am ecstatic about the tailgate, new stadium and atmosphere. I hope I am pleasantly surprised about the game. GMG

Take a deep breath...A Different Perspective
NM Green replied to philtex's topic in Mean Green Football
I've been following since 86 and was in the stands near you in 88. Man you missed the fun years and all of those hollaring fans on bourbon. It will happen here. I hope we get to New Orleans again, but in the interim lets just get better each game and enjoy one of the best tailgate scenes in the Southwest! GMG -
Cool. I just want to be ready to kick some arse when we line up against the ponies and the Mean Greenies go crazy mad! We will be good. Jones will be gone. Ponies will be crying. We will be flying! GMG

I know I will feel better if FIU turns out to be our first SBC top 25 team which I believe they have a chance to do. That FIU team looked focused and a lot like Nevada last year. That Nevada team with Kapernik went 11-1 with one blemish to Hawaii and beat Boise State. I think FIU could be that good after watching their near upset of TAMU in College Station, their big bowl win and frankly a driven and motivated team last night. I can't imagine Cristobal being there after this year and I won't mind. I am sick of losing to FIU - 6 in a row now - really! I liked that we did not make stupid penalties. We didn't celebrate crazy after a 1st down, we stayed within the gameplan and competed in the second half. I don't think Houston is as good as FIU and we will be at home in front of a raucous crowd. I am confident we will play much much better and be in a game with H-town all the way to the end. We may even surprise the college football nation. GMG

Yeah I had to get up and start folding the laundry - yep you know that barbed wire hurt. GMG
-
yuck - this is embarrassing. Go UNLV. I thought McCarney knew defense. Yes FIU is this good - maybe bcs buster material. Did we have a gameplan? FIU obviously did

I like the Boise State snowman uni. They look sharp. Fresno now looks orange instead of red. Ours will look great when lining up in the victory formation! GMG
-
That is a bizarre statement. Oh no! No more games against Sic Em. Aggie fans have new rivalries to build with Ole Miss, Miss State, Arkansas, LSU, Alabama and Auburn. Baylor is upset because of the instability but get over it. I can't wait to see the next version of the holy war between the baptists and mormons. Bring it! GMG

I think a UNT travel partner would be smart for an MWC invite but I am happy to go alone. Nothing would be smarter than jumping to the strongest non bcs league if afforded the opportunity. That would leave SMU, Tulsa and Houston in the dust and we would be able to compete on a national stage with Boise State, Air Force San Diego State, UNLV, Nevada, Fresno State and Hawaii (combo of basketball and football). We would be in unchartered territory and immediately raise out lot over the ponies. I personally feel a decent season and upward trend gets us a call from the Mountain West, only they better act fast because I believe our lot and options are going to grow in the right direction. We have a history with almost half the league and we give them access to a recruiting hotbed - aka SECede and Texas A&M. We gain by exposure and national profile raise, while the MWC gains from exposure in a recruiting pipeline. This is exactly what is happening at Texas A&M on the grander scale. If we do lobby for a partner I say go for Houston, La Tech or (gulp) UTSA. Get the San Antonio and Dallas markets (North Texas and South Texas presence) and develop a second bowl game in San Antonio between the MWC and Big 12 (Big 12 adds BYU). The MWC with bowl games in San Antonio (Maybe move the Human Bowl from Boise to SAT), Las Vegas, San Francisco and New Mexico could be an appealing setup. Is it gametime yet! GMG

I think we have a chance but FIU has that swagger that we had early last decade. They have a solid system in place, Florida athletes, an outstanding proven coach and a passion to become conference champions this year. That is a lot to overcome for Troy or any of the expected powers in the league. I don't think this is like us lining up against Troy in the Dodge years, but I think this game will be nearly as tough as Houston will be the following week. And yes, I do believe we have a chance in both games. Canales wants a head coaching gig and that team is going to be ready to play. Coach has fire and passion and will get the team amped. I would love us to pull an upset in the early season and obviously that stands a better chance of happening in Miami or Denton versus Tuscaloosa. GMG

I love the new Best Western up there by the mall. It is a great hotel with a nice free breakfast and huge rooms! It is not too far from the stadium and clean. Not sure if they are sold out or not though. GMG

I can't wait for the Tomato to reopen. It will rival openings second only to what is about to happen on September 10th. I am also excited that the place will become a draw for the local community, college students, out of towners...I would love for that area to get a feel and look of what has happened around Arizona State. I think Tempe and especially the area around ASU is fun, classy and great during a game and in all off-seasons. I like a mix of urban lounges, sports bars, a steak house, all night diners, coffee houses...Make it a great hang out space all the year long. GMG
