  1. I like FAU over FIU because of their commitment. They will begin to re-emerge and they already have good baseball. You add in two new school with brand new stadiums and large alumni bases in recruiting hotbeds and you will do okay. The goal from here on out should be big alumni bases and commitment to athletics in regards to facilities, program development and performance and location location location. Thank goodness for the students and for Apogee! GMG
  2. SMU was a big hurdle and for 25 years we have yet to carve out our own identity and circumvent them. Further they railed against us at every turn. Now that hurdle is gone. It is off to the BE where they will do okay but again I look at what programs are doing and think this is our chance. While everyone has grown from being in a regional league (exception TCU), we have never had that luxury at the top tier of football. You might even argue that even more people knew us in the Southland as North Texas State. While everyone is choosing to go outward we have a great chance of going regional to grow our program. Now this by no way means we turn down an invite to the MWC because the company there is good. But those other programs are about to feel what we have been feeling the last 25 years since following UNT. Not having some close identity rich rivals can slow your growth. TCU is about to do just fine if Texas allows them to become the good but not great stepsister program ala TAMU. SMU is going to have Houston as a rival and the other programs are okay for them to battle with, but the Big East is not one of the premier leagues. It will do just fine and they will get their dough. But we will do just fine and build our base and identity again - finally. I don't mind that scenario regarding La La Arkie State, UTSA and Texas State, but by making a leap to CUSA or MWC when offered we will stay one step ahead of the startups. That is not because I like going SMU on them, but our time has come to play with stronger foes and UTEP, Tulsa, Rice, New Mexico, Colorado State, UNLV, SDSU, Southern Miss...Those programs have been doing it awhile in fball and hoops and so have we. That is the company we should seek. GMG
  3. Look kudos to SMU for firing up their PR machine and getting a seat in the Big East. SMU does not control UNT's future. UNT controls UNT's future. It is time to fire up our PR machine and get into either the MWC, CUSA or conglomerate. I am confident our leaders who built the palace and have been improving all programs over the past few years are all over this. We lie in the center of the country, offer a lot of eyes, offer a great destination, have a solid commitment to athletics and good name recognition in this new national scene. If we somehow stay the Belt for awhile, continue winning, grow and send the PR video to the ACC or Pac 12 or anywhere there is not a rich lucrative DFW presence. That is why UNLV's AD has been so active because like he said you must FIRE UP YOUR OWN PR MACHINE and set yourself up for success. Looking at that new CUSA/MWC lineup after all the defections helps me realize that the new Sun Belt is every bit as competitive as that Hawaii to West Virginia league. It is like sitting on mountains of gold and UNT's is ground zero. Somebody and I mean somebody good is going to listen to what we have to say and offer. GMG
  4. Good for Aggie. They will need 100,000 as Tennessee, Alabama and Auburn will bring 15K while LSU and Arkansas will bring 20K. Very excited to see some SEC games in Texas and watching the Aggies tussle against the best. GMG
  5. With a higher profile conference that we will hopefully be invited to soon, that poster about talks with TAMU could have some traction. Here me out. With the 12 thumbing their noses at the Aggies, they may very well be open to securing Texas based games more eagerly than in the past. Especially less than difficult SEC games in Texas. I would only ever entertain a move out of Apogee for a game like TAMU and that would be to grab a battle at the Cotton Bowl on a non Texas OU weekend during the fair. I love Apogee and I wouldn't do this for any other game. But if we could sell the Aggies on two games in DFW every year in Jerry World and the Cotton Bowl, you might be able to land a few games. TCU is going to have their hands tied now in dealing with the Ags and SMU will have their hands full settling into an East Coast based league. Let's get the invite and send the Aggies a holiday basket for all sports beginning now. GMG
  6. Oh, so now you are our friend:) Just kidding! Hope we go up north and pull the upset. Good luck to the RC's! GMG
  7. I am glad for SMU but the Big East is a weird conference. Watching those games tonight in Syracuse and Louisville were strange. I think SMU can go in and compete right away because it is AQ in name only. The atmosphere at Louisville reminded me of a cheesy UNLV football game with piped in music. They will benefit by being AQ and we will benefit after our invite to either CUSA or the MWC from either regional rivalries or name opponents. Exciting times ahead folks! I still think MWC might come knocking as soon as they get a feel for what Boise is going to do. I think Boise would benefit from joining the BE. It would be the program that gives the BE some teeth. I believe even more than what TCU would have done. Not a knock against TCU, but Boise is even more of a national darling. The Beginning is Near! GMG
  8. I agree Comet. I remember when we were winning pre-Jones and SMU was in a very rough place. Look at them now after that successful hire. I was living in Hawaii at the time during the Colt Brennan years. As soon as JJ finds a Colt for the Ponies, top 10 here you all come. I like the fact Coach M hates losing because that is already dripping down into the locker room. When he gets his players in there we will be knocking on the door of 7 - 10 win seasons. It is coming. GMG
  9. I truly believe when we get the Green training rolling people are going to show up in droves for a great Apogee college football experience. When we won in the past we did not have the facilities we have today. Add in a more regional conference and some recognized foes and we will continue to grow the attendance. People will know us yet. On the plane this week the flight attendant said, "I love that stuff!" I looked at her with a puzzled look and she stated, "Mean Green" referring to my shirt. I giggled and said, yes I love the stuff too. Granted she was nice, but she also looked like she was straight off the Dallas Most Eligible show. But I thought WOW do we have a ways to go:) GMG
  10. I really don't see the Big East going away. In fact I think they are more attractive with an SMU, Houston and UCF in the mix. They are going after big markets and plan on holding onto their AQ status. Who wants us first MW or CUSA? GMG
  11. This thread is so "Mine is bigger than yours." I hope we move up in conference stature because that would make 3 solid upward moves by the Metroplex programs. I think that is great and we want amazing football to be played here. I have been to Amon Carter and SMU. Have we had any hidden ponies at Apogee on gameday? If so I welcome their outside thoughts. This area is sports rich and we are only growing stronger! GMG
  12. Actually basketball season in Albuquerque and Las Vegas is quite exciting. In fact, living in LV it is like having back to back football seasons with how exciting it can get. A cold desert night inside the Thomas and Mack with a winter brew is one of my favorite experiences and definitely ties me over to spring when we get to get pumped about fball season. Still want SMU to GOOOOOOOOO! Our time is near! GMG
  13. Me too. But I am not convinced he has full reign of the O. I want more for sure but I think comparing this role in this regime is not the same as evaluating him as our head coach. I am not ready to kick him to the curb. DM owns this whole thing and he will be held accountable for the results as he should as the HC. He will make tough decisions if need be and I still believe in the collective group we have. We have a chance to go to 3-1 at Apogee this weekend. That in and of itself is a really nice. I would love a road win and a 4-0 mark too, but we have often had to wait until the end of November to get to 3 wins and we may 3 or 4 before Halloween. Outstanding! BRING IT THIS WEEKEND! Be Loud! Let them hear us at the Ballpark in Arlington! gmg
  14. It's not any old game. It's the World Series. I say promote this dual game situation. The team will have to deal with it and still go out and win. It is up to them to grab our attention. If not this game will have 15K which is sad for homecoming. Get creative and find a way to draw the Rangers fans in too. GMG
  15. Look at us trying to lick up to TSU to get into a conference with them. WOW. Can next Saturday come soon enough! Not to mention you take our bbal team into basketball venues that regularly draw 17k (The Pit) and UNLV which outdraws most to all bball progams in the west and you are in a better league. I say kill the WAC and develop a new conference but joining a WAC with Idaho, SJSU and USU is a tragic thought. If we really want to be in a league with UTSA and TSU form a new league but this let's try to join a league so we can keep up with TSU and UTSA is frankly offensive. GO MEAN GREEN!!!!! P.S. - love the post about support your team. The homily today was entitled: Endurance Leads to Hope. Nut it up Nation and support this awesome team. We have risen from ashes before and we will do so again. GMG
  16. Just fix those announcers - the mean greenies or mean greeners whatever he was calling us? are a bunch of avalanches being thrown into the board or how about taking a tackling the marshall thundering herds:) seriously -good game - good team - go get them. GMG
  17. Beer in the stands could be a HUGE revenue builder. I don't drink beer at UNLV games but I see it flying off the counters and the registers smoking. I am not sure why we pretend college athletics is not big business. It is not big business, it is MONSTER business. It is all about personal responsibility and trusting people to be adults. Those that are not will have a nice ride home by the DPD. It is time to bring the full pro experience to Apogee. GMG
  18. Who is flying into Texas first with stops in DFW and SAT? If I were the MWC or CUSA (I know they are here), I would be on the horn with North Texas and UTSA to grab DFW and San Antonio. CUSA is the best poised to have Houston SAT and DFW wrapped up, but the MWC could swoop in and undercut first if they wanted to. I believe both programs will go to whoever knocks on the door first. Las Vegas Reno San Diego Laramie Fort Collins Albuquerque Honolulu Fresno DFW San Antonio or San Antonio DFW Houston Tulsa El Paso Huntington Carolina New Orleans Memphis Hattiesburg
  19. Love the Rangers but college football > baseball North Texas Mean Green Football >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> baseball I bought 6 plane tickets from Vegas to enjoy the best 6 days of the year. They could play at 9:00 AM or 11 PM and I would be on the hill. Let's take that next step - road game win - big conference road game win tomorrow! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!
  20. Prejeans for a meal at some point for sure. GMG NATION! Rise us up tomorrow! GMG
  21. Happy Birthday to the best. Thank you for your Mean Green inspiration! GMG
  22. My first time clan I took to the game this weekend had a blast too and it wasn't even the atmosphere of Houston and Indiana. I think that bodes wonderful. They loved the tailgate and rain drama at the end of the night. Of course North Texas has won 2 of their last 3 games so the win was something new too. Confident they will be back! GMG P.S. - our mission should be to bring new folks every single game.
  23. Thank you I will take credit for that even though it is the white guy at our tailgate who cooks like a Mexican. Yummmmmmmmmmmmm! Attendance was rough and what a shame because they missed an awesome game! However, the Rangers were too much. I overheard some students saying they wanted to watch the Ranger game and were thinking about heading over to Fry to watch it. Once the weather got weird I think that was the signal. I think people just didn't come to the stadium today because it was dead hours before kickoff. Also, I don't recall us having a game on Texas OU weekend very often. I remember thinking we were always lucky that way. Of course we were messed up on Thanksgiving weekend too many times to count. Tough weekend anyway and when the Rangers won which is great I knew it was going to make impact. What a game and for 13k inside that stadium we still forced time outs with our noise. Love it! GMG
  24. An SMU North Texas rivalry as conference mates would be good for both programs and the league. Get Arkansas State or MTSU to rival with Memphis and now you are developing some good regional CUSA rivalries. I would still rather play the Lobos, Rebels, Falcons, Cowboys, Bulldogs, Wolf Pack and Warriors, but planting instant nasty rivalries would interject some emotion into an otherwise listless Conference USA. Who in CUSA could be ticked off: SMU - invite North Texas UAB - invite Troy Tulane - invite La La Memphis - invite MTSU and or Arkie State Let's beat FAU and enhance our chances. Need to keep winning and showing up strong Mean Green Nation! Increase your tailgate camps by 2-4 peeps this weekend! GMG
  25. I love the wings. They are distinctive. We have a green turf and wings - so take that Boise! GMG
