  1. Let's win this weekend and then begin the Jihad that TCU so successfully pulled off a decade ago. Those Horned Frog fans went jihad on the Sun Bowl and were able to influence their eventual selection into the Sun Bowl vs USC. I was living in NM at the time and remember the frogs being relentless on the Sun Bowl site. I firmly believe they had an influence and then showed up in force to pull off one of their biggest upsets in Frog history. That was the beginning of their rise and I remember it like it was yesterday. After we win this weekend lets get the details in order to blitz the bowls with open slots. Then we will have everyone watching us with a close eye when we line up against Middle Tennessee. They will be looking at how good we are, how many fans showed up for that final game, the momentum we will be riding and our length since our last bowl game. We have much work to do because they will probably look at our attendance against WKU and the season as a whole. So many factors go into the invite and we all play a part. Start with increasing your number of attendees this Saturday, get the bowl contacts ready and let's cheer the team like heck to create a memorable first weekend in December! GMG
  2. Hilltoppers will be tough! Lets rock Apogee next weekend! GMG
  3. Not so much. Boise doesn't run up the like Houston loves to. H-town has always been known for that - remember 95-21 or something like that? Ask smu. So glad they didn't get a chance to get 60 on us. GMG
  4. I am feeling different today. I think you preserve the college football experience which is Saturday afternoon evening and win for recognition. We need buts in seats and as many rituals as we can establish. It would also have an effect on us out of towners who would find it more challenging to drive or fly back for a game. GMG
  5. Call me different, but I would rather watch a game in Apogee than in Kyle Field. 1. Because it is where the Mean Green are playing. 2. It is louder than Fouts and more fun. When we fill it up and continue the yelling with the added volume, it won't be one of the best atmospheres in a non-bcs house. It will be one of the best atmospheres in college football: Intimidating, loud, proud and disruptive. When I sit in Sam Boyd or Aloha Stadium I realize just how nice of a football home we have. GMG
  6. I love the time change - hot chocolate game. The added tailgate time is a bonus. We just swapped out our October evening game for an afternoon and got a night game in November. It will be a blast - chilly with a big Mean Green victory under the lights! GMG
  7. The big wrench in all of this is now that Missouri is gone will the Big 12 go get BYU and Boise? That could renegotiate the entire plan for SMU, UCF and Houston and I don't think would be good for us. What if Big 12 goes for Louisville and Cincy. Could be another wrench. We may not know what is going on with us for awhile. Just win 3 and go bowling! GMG
  8. Tonight I enjoyed a great UNLV and BSU tilt and thought about what a shame it is that BSU is going to the BE. They must have brought 15,000 into the game and they were crazy blue and orange. I think TCU gets their clock cleaned next week in Boise. TCU is not bad but Boise is not playing great ball and I think they look at next week as a statement game in their house amongst their crazy fans. Anyhow. BSU fits perfectly in the MWC as does USU. I would love UNT to join the MWC but the reality is that they should build around those western programs: Hawaii, SDSU, Fresno, SJSU, USU, Nevada, UNLV, NMSU, UTEP, CSU, Air Force, Wyoming, Idaho. We really are natural fit to be battling Tulsa, Rice UTEP (they want Texas) Southern Miss, Memphis, Arkie State, La La. GMG
  9. yeah i wouldn't want to see that dogfight again. give me stanford bsu or Okie state bsu GMG
  10. Lots of football surfing and waiting for LSU vs Alabama. Then tonight going to Sam Boyd to watch Boise in their one and only visit to play UNLV before going to the Big East. Gonna see Kellen Moore do some slicing and dicing of the UNLV D. Then watching Utah State at Hawaii on gameplan - great day ahead! GMG
  11. Also, I am rooting for USC tonight because the CU band is driving me crazy! Every time the USC band goes to play Fight On, their fight song whatever, the C who band starts playing over them. It's like poison to the ears. 1-9 lives in Boulder GMG
  12. In a strange twist of fate living out West in Nevada I have seen more North Texas football games than Longhorn games. It is like beef burger U fell off the face of the earth to college football fans living outside of Texas. I see Penn State, Kent State, UCF, BYU (even BYU now that they are out of the mountain), the Maryland terribles, Baylor, K State, USC, Colorado, Nebraska...an no horns! It has truly been the most bizarre football in college football in the recent past. That is why the stars will align and we will go bowling and win! Bizarre 2011 for sure! GMG
  13. I will say that on the whole the fact that realignment has consumed the entire football season nationwide has taken some of the luster off the great game. Unfortunately I believe it will continue until it reaches the law of diminishing returns. greed destroys a lot and gives life to fresh adventures. The BCS is destroying a great game, but the pure has no agenda and will prevail. I like where we are. Keep growing keep winning keep celebrating keep supporting the Green. Ready for the 12th! GMG
  14. On a "What were you thinking note" I bet UNLV would love to kick Boise to the Big East before tomorrow's clash. Someone not so smart decided to make Boise UNLV's homecoming. That will settle well with Bronco Nation getting liquored up on the Strip tonight and the team scoring 70 at Sam Boyd on Saturday. Opening with Houston was tough, but making Boise your homecoming:) my oh my. GMG
  15. Please don't make me drop Dr. Phil a line to have him visit his alma mater to replenish their self confidence. SMU does not define UNT. I define UNT. You define UNT. RV defines UNT. Coach Mac defines UNT. 3 more wins and we take a solid base of fans to a bowl game in December. All is Green. All is Good. GMG
  16. I have heard that unique comparison of four cities but I heard: New Orleans, San Antonio, San Francisco and Boston. Urban Legend for sure:) GMG P.S. - out of all of this can you believe we can talk about becoming bowl eligible into the second week of November! I am jazzed - just win baby is right!!!!!
  17. I like FAU over FIU because of their commitment. They will begin to re-emerge and they already have good baseball. You add in two new school with brand new stadiums and large alumni bases in recruiting hotbeds and you will do okay. The goal from here on out should be big alumni bases and commitment to athletics in regards to facilities, program development and performance and location location location. Thank goodness for the students and for Apogee! GMG
  18. SMU was a big hurdle and for 25 years we have yet to carve out our own identity and circumvent them. Further they railed against us at every turn. Now that hurdle is gone. It is off to the BE where they will do okay but again I look at what programs are doing and think this is our chance. While everyone has grown from being in a regional league (exception TCU), we have never had that luxury at the top tier of football. You might even argue that even more people knew us in the Southland as North Texas State. While everyone is choosing to go outward we have a great chance of going regional to grow our program. Now this by no way means we turn down an invite to the MWC because the company there is good. But those other programs are about to feel what we have been feeling the last 25 years since following UNT. Not having some close identity rich rivals can slow your growth. TCU is about to do just fine if Texas allows them to become the good but not great stepsister program ala TAMU. SMU is going to have Houston as a rival and the other programs are okay for them to battle with, but the Big East is not one of the premier leagues. It will do just fine and they will get their dough. But we will do just fine and build our base and identity again - finally. I don't mind that scenario regarding La La Arkie State, UTSA and Texas State, but by making a leap to CUSA or MWC when offered we will stay one step ahead of the startups. That is not because I like going SMU on them, but our time has come to play with stronger foes and UTEP, Tulsa, Rice, New Mexico, Colorado State, UNLV, SDSU, Southern Miss...Those programs have been doing it awhile in fball and hoops and so have we. That is the company we should seek. GMG
  19. Look kudos to SMU for firing up their PR machine and getting a seat in the Big East. SMU does not control UNT's future. UNT controls UNT's future. It is time to fire up our PR machine and get into either the MWC, CUSA or conglomerate. I am confident our leaders who built the palace and have been improving all programs over the past few years are all over this. We lie in the center of the country, offer a lot of eyes, offer a great destination, have a solid commitment to athletics and good name recognition in this new national scene. If we somehow stay the Belt for awhile, continue winning, grow and send the PR video to the ACC or Pac 12 or anywhere there is not a rich lucrative DFW presence. That is why UNLV's AD has been so active because like he said you must FIRE UP YOUR OWN PR MACHINE and set yourself up for success. Looking at that new CUSA/MWC lineup after all the defections helps me realize that the new Sun Belt is every bit as competitive as that Hawaii to West Virginia league. It is like sitting on mountains of gold and UNT's is ground zero. Somebody and I mean somebody good is going to listen to what we have to say and offer. GMG
  20. Good for Aggie. They will need 100,000 as Tennessee, Alabama and Auburn will bring 15K while LSU and Arkansas will bring 20K. Very excited to see some SEC games in Texas and watching the Aggies tussle against the best. GMG
  21. With a higher profile conference that we will hopefully be invited to soon, that poster about talks with TAMU could have some traction. Here me out. With the 12 thumbing their noses at the Aggies, they may very well be open to securing Texas based games more eagerly than in the past. Especially less than difficult SEC games in Texas. I would only ever entertain a move out of Apogee for a game like TAMU and that would be to grab a battle at the Cotton Bowl on a non Texas OU weekend during the fair. I love Apogee and I wouldn't do this for any other game. But if we could sell the Aggies on two games in DFW every year in Jerry World and the Cotton Bowl, you might be able to land a few games. TCU is going to have their hands tied now in dealing with the Ags and SMU will have their hands full settling into an East Coast based league. Let's get the invite and send the Aggies a holiday basket for all sports beginning now. GMG
  22. Oh, so now you are our friend:) Just kidding! Hope we go up north and pull the upset. Good luck to the RC's! GMG
  23. I am glad for SMU but the Big East is a weird conference. Watching those games tonight in Syracuse and Louisville were strange. I think SMU can go in and compete right away because it is AQ in name only. The atmosphere at Louisville reminded me of a cheesy UNLV football game with piped in music. They will benefit by being AQ and we will benefit after our invite to either CUSA or the MWC from either regional rivalries or name opponents. Exciting times ahead folks! I still think MWC might come knocking as soon as they get a feel for what Boise is going to do. I think Boise would benefit from joining the BE. It would be the program that gives the BE some teeth. I believe even more than what TCU would have done. Not a knock against TCU, but Boise is even more of a national darling. The Beginning is Near! GMG
  24. I agree Comet. I remember when we were winning pre-Jones and SMU was in a very rough place. Look at them now after that successful hire. I was living in Hawaii at the time during the Colt Brennan years. As soon as JJ finds a Colt for the Ponies, top 10 here you all come. I like the fact Coach M hates losing because that is already dripping down into the locker room. When he gets his players in there we will be knocking on the door of 7 - 10 win seasons. It is coming. GMG
  25. I truly believe when we get the Green training rolling people are going to show up in droves for a great Apogee college football experience. When we won in the past we did not have the facilities we have today. Add in a more regional conference and some recognized foes and we will continue to grow the attendance. People will know us yet. On the plane this week the flight attendant said, "I love that stuff!" I looked at her with a puzzled look and she stated, "Mean Green" referring to my shirt. I giggled and said, yes I love the stuff too. Granted she was nice, but she also looked like she was straight off the Dallas Most Eligible show. But I thought WOW do we have a ways to go:) GMG
