  1. I would like to move to CUSA for more regional rivalries and MWC for better name programs. However, I do not hate on the Sun Belt or even our days in the BW. Some of the most memorable games in my Mean Green memory were games against NMSU, MTSU, Idaho, Arkie State and Utah State. Heck I have great memories of our Southland days with battles against NLU, McNeese, SWT and Abilene Christian. We do have a rich history in Denton and much like Boise we should celebrate all of our stops along the way. I saw an excerpt on the Mountain about Boise and they did this chronological excerpt about their days playing D1AA football, playing in the Big West, their rise in the WAC and now to the Mountain West. I would love that story to be told about the Mean Green because I could feel the pride in the Bronco nation after that piece. We have a lot of tradition and history to celebrate as a fan of the Mean Green nation! GMG P.S. - wherever we live I won't bash it, but will work to build it. I also won't bash the Belt if we get a chance to leave. GMG! How much fun was that win over SHSU last night!
  2. Mark rocks and the way Corby or whoever now speaks favorably about SMU because they do play by play, I think this would be a nice community splash to get him more involved. Mark is clear, fair, excitable and completely professional. He would enhance the experience however he is involved. GMG
  3. Well we don't sell out many things at UNT but I sure hope they get a bigger venue next year. I have $50 or whatever it was burning a hole in my pocket and couldn't get single ticket late. My bad for waiting. Enjoy! Have fun and next year let's raise that occupancy and bring in some more benjamins. GMG
  4. I find it absolutely crazy that programs like UTEP and Tulsa don't automatically lobby to get us included in CUSA to preserve a DFW presence. Isn't one of the primary goals of playing SMU and TCU is to have a place for their alums to watch their teams? I am sure many Tulsa and El Paso alums are present here in DFW. It feels like we are the biggest, hungriest, largest invisible program in the world to some of these people. Time to join them and then beat their arse in every sport possible. GMG
  5. We are in a delicious position. Even if there is a merger there is a prime university in a rich as heck region ready to jump at an invitation. That monster win over MTSU was a great last impression to leave for 2011. Georgio said it perfectly earlier today - why don't select programs recreate the SWC now. There is very little lose and developing regional rivalries is going in the opposite direction of what is happening now. Do different, be different. Soon SMU is going to get tired of playing Rutgers, San Diego State is going to get tired of playing everyone. Boise will always be Boise. I think you are going to see these mass flung conferences regionalize in the future, so lets beat them to the punch. UNLV UNM NMSU Tulsa North Texas La Tech Rice UTEP Southern Miss Memphis Invite Houston and SMU back to the fold when AQ goes away and the Big East dissolves. GMG
  6. I see McCarney seeing this thing through 3 years if not longer. He is a builder of programs and he knows it will take a couple of years to make his mark. When he builds UNT he will be able to name his job in the Big 12, SEC or Big 10. That is 5 years down the road in my opinion. GMG
  7. YESSSSSSSS! That Green Brigade halftime was OUTSTANDING! I loved everything about the game, especially the thumping we got to Witness! GMG
  8. Out of all these posts I believe it is the "Event" angle we must work on. People want to go have fun. I have fun tailgating, but I am a diehard. What are we doing to make the event fun for students and the community. I hate committees because they often do more motivational damage than good, but in this case I believe a committee of community, alumni, students and others needs to come together now to make next year's 5 or 6 events be amazing. They all need to meet NOW to grow the ground game just after New Years and create planned events that draw in all elements next year. I sometimes feel we leave too much up to one group or person. Yes it is the AD's department job but we must increase the reach via lots of arms and I am talking volunteer arms like you do in a campaign. Every single big business in Denton should have a tent at the tailgate with their employees friends and family in attendance for every home game. It seemed like there was more at Fouts than this year. Maybe they were placed somewhere else. Either way it is critical that the grassroots version Mean Green Party get organized now. One request from the AD's office is to please pummel me with UNT information. As a UNLV fan and ticket holder as well I get gameday updates. The email simply says "It's Rebel gameday." All the details for me to head to the stadium or tune in online or via tv are provided. Now that basketball is here I am a casual Mean Green follower, but if I was flagged about I would be inclined to tune in. Also, I receive FIU updates 2 - 3 times a week showing me their new gear, their holiday gear, their bowl gear, announcing their watching party in Miami - all of this after giving them just a snippet of information. Yes Kram, I need to be spoonfed because I am always on the road but always near my computer. By the way great seeing you at the show last night. Annoy me with Mean Green updates - pre and post game. Keep me top of mind. That is what we must do with Denton, Alums and friends of the university. Also, thinking out loud here but how about an open house in the spring? So many people asked me "How is the new stadium" this season. What about throwing a couple of events in the spring to allow the curious to tour the facilities, enjoy movie night or enjoy a free concert. Get some folks into the stands and stadium and then pummel them with next year's home gate dates. The time to annoy is now. Mean Green 2012: Persistent, persuasive, committed. GMG
  9. I agree 100 percent! Definitely one of the most fun and memorable seasons ever. Even in our great years of winning I am not sure I remember so many experiences being so memorable. Seeing the team win 4 games in person was outstanding. Seeing us get our win in Troy on the computer was awesome. The tailgate was simply fun and cherished memories were made. I found a lot of joy in today and every trip to Apogee this year! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!
  10. Wait until coach killer James is finished up in Lubbock. That situation regardless of fault has taken Tech back 10 years. I hope Sherm is out at TAMU. How would Tuberville do back in the SEC? Aggies need an SEC guy as they embark onto some powerful seas. GMG
  11. After visiting UTA last week I think UTA should join forces or continue to join forces with UTSA and Texas State. That is going to be a great bball situation for them and they will bring some power to a league. GMG
  12. I think Stoops should sit out a year. I think perspective and rest helps a lot of formerly good coaches. I think Rich Rodriguez is going to fit into Arizona nicely. I cannot believe how many coaches in the Pac 10 need to go including Nieuheisel, Erickson and whoever is at Oregon State. The fact Utah could have almost made it in there but choked against CU was surprising. The Pac 12 stinks this year. For the record watching TT and BU was disturbing as well. I just have horror flash backs to our Dodge days when we could score but couldn't stop anybody! SOOOOOOOOO many frustrating games. We look more and more like ISU everyday and I can live with that especially if we win on 12.3 and compete for a bowl berth again next year! This has been fun. GMG
  13. I tell you we cannot go wrong taking our basketball (throw out UTA last week) to the MWC where UNLV is coming on. Dave Rice is bringing back the Runnin Rebels and tonight at the Orleans they beat their first #1 team since 1985. I would love to see the Mean Green play in Vegas and see the Runnin Rebels bring their strong program to Denton every year. CUSA has Memphis MWC has UNLV. I think our football program makes faster strides than our bball program in either league. Time to get back on track and Go Lady Eagles! GMG
  14. That Texas State schedule sounds nice. Don't know their other games but Navy, Texas Tech, Houston, New Mexico. Sweet. GMG
  15. Yeah but as long as they have Cowboy Stadium type scoreboard on us, I would buy and wear a Mean Green vs UTA shirt. Heck I would make sure that horrifying score was big and bold, because that team in Green better not ever forget that massacre last night. For a moment I was glad we weren't joining the WAC. Only spirited passionate ball from here on out! GMG
  16. It was a an at large bid killing loss. Listening to New Mexico sports radio this past week they were desperate because they lost to NMSU at home in game 2. They knew they could not go into ASU and lose to the Sun Devils and still think realistically about getting a tournament bid. The MWC league is down this year with no BYU and Utah. Every game matters. I don't see the Mean Green often, but I have seen us play uninspired basketball against this team two years in a row. What happened last night simply cannot happen when we are the power of the metroplex. Standards Mean Green. Standards. We have to win the league now after losing to Tech and UTA. Jones did not seem to have that team hungry to play last night. Just an observation from a distance. Still GREEN but bummed. Will get over it soon! GMG
  17. I like our rivalry with UTA and now more than ever want to beat them severely in Denton next year! GMG
  18. If the MWC and CUSA stay the same, with all the defections the Sun Belt easily rivals both of those leagues with the left over programs. In listening to the Coach Mac show last night the stat that was stunning was that our losses came to teams that have won 77% of their games combined, including 2 top ten programs. Those other losses also included some SBC squads and Tulsa. Next year I am confident our goal is to go bowling and it is not an unrealistic goal. La La is going to New Orleans with thousands upon thousands of fans. Arkansas State is going bowling with a SOLID record. WKU and the red blob is bowl eligible. They looked flat out solid on both sides of the ball this past weekend. Troy will be back. UNT is almost there. FIU will re-emerge. I think the Sun Belt even if we leave will be a league to be reckoned with over the next decade. I would still like an invite to CUSA or MWC but if not no big deal. We will compete and go bowling wherever we plant ourselves and we have the regime to get us there. GMG P.S. - no DFW and Florida presence is crazy talk though. I just don't see those leftover programs being excited about staying put. GO BELT! Let's get some strong bowl wins this season! Most importantly lets send the seniors out strong on 12.3. Big Crowd! Loud Crowd! Big Win!
  19. Well the menu is not fully baked other than the olives, pickled okra, pickles, celery...for the bloody bar. I imagine the food will have a Spanish tint consisting of breakfast fajita tacos (beef and chicken), some barbacoa, lime drenched salsa and pandulce (Mexican sweetbread). Eggs scramble easy with some grilled papas and queso - yum. No brunch is complete without the fresh squeezed mimosa. We talked about arriving at 10:00 AM and were bummed about only 5 hours of tailgating bliss - so 8:00 AM here we come. Finish off Tailgate season in style! GMG
  20. Please look at some of the nuggets in this thread as feedback, not moaning and groaning. For the people who have upclose parking (MGC) it is difficult to realize what some people who don't go through on gameday. The 81 year old is a perfect example. We do not have a clear system for those with mobility issues. Let's get a clear system for those with mobility issues set and communicated before the next game. The same can be said for very overweight people, people with injuries, people lugging over multiple small children. The bridge is a year away. We have 1 more game with 2 weeks of opportunity. If we wait until next year to address the transfer challenges so be it. But every piece of feedback from people who experience the Mean Green in different ways should be appreciated. Yes our crew plans on providing that feedback to the Athletic department at the end of the year. But what about the athletic department sending out a survey monkey survey or something that solicits raw honest feedback from all season ticket holders. All Mean Green Club members. All one time ticket buyers. Multiple time ticket buyers. Visiting guests. Think about the wealth of information you could mine from simply asking a few targeted questions and an open comments section. Also as a Mean Green guest I want that survey to find me. I want to do as little as possible to provide you my valuable feedback. I am speaking as the casual fan here and not the Mean Green diehard I am. But make it easy for the groups above to participate. If there are extra Mean Green towels or commemorative anything incentivize our guests and get that feedback. For the record my crew will be there at 8:00 AM on 12.3. We will see the same security officer who always asks us if we know the drop off policy (we dig him because we have seen him 5 times this year with the same vehicles and we assure him we know the routine. He is great!) Full on bloody mary bar, brunch tailgate, UNT win and 5-7 record, 1 hour post game wait beverage, departure from Apogee with sad face in tow because Year 1 is over.) GMG
  21. No. Just a season ticket holder - three of us. So on the first day of Apogee we asked how do we get to park in there - they mentioned the MGC. Next year I will try to be an MGC member but I elected to spend money on flights home instead of joining the MGC. Next year may be in a better financial situation to buy flights home AND join the MGC to get the parking pass. Where there is a will there is... Please note that I am not complaining about the choice to park across the highway. But on gamedays like yesterday when there are open spaces, it would be great to grab a gameday close parking spot to secure the belongings (aka beer) during the games. Also, we have left people at the tailgate to ensure the stuff is not disturbed so I hope they never run people out of the tailgate zones during the games. Our running joke is okay drink as much as we can before the game because that will be less that will get taken. Problem is that we have to wait the hour after the game to breakdown with the car near so with no beer that would stink. But we always find a beer post game while waiting to move the car near for the tent, chairs, coolers... GMG
  22. Joining the Mean Green Club is something every fan should do. Is it something every fan can do, depends. It would be awesome not to be beer raided when we leave the tailgate to go into the game. I spend my money on transit to and from Denton (mostly flights). We have season tickets but don't have the parking pass to secure our belongings on gameday. We unload and park across the highway by choice. We have not had our tailgage disturbed 4 of the 5 games so no biggie. I wish there was a way for people to sell their parking pass on gameday. I would pay $50 for upclose parking like that on gameday - split between the 4 - 7 I bring to the game it would still be a steal. GMG
  23. I don't understand why we don't run shuttles on the 30 minutes to the other side of the stadium. Literally an oversized golf cart running back and forth from each side. I know people will say "Stop being lazy." But some people just don't travel as easily for numerous reasons and we must do EVERYTHING IN OUR POWER TO SERVE THE FANS. They are paying good money to support our University and if we don't have a service first attitude in all that we do we are creating self-inflicted wounds. GMG
  24. The attendance was rough but the experience inside the stadium is always awesome. I don't try to understand the local fanbase and even many alumni. I literally drove in from Vegas straight to the stadium to meet my tailgate buddies. We had a blast and always will have a blast. Of course another friend alum made it to one game from Dallas this fall. I don't think he will ever care as much as the four hard cores I have tailgated with all season long. Two of them are not even UNT graduates. I have zero respect for his fandom but would welcome him into the tailgate any time. S crew the conference affiliation argument. My hardcore friends never have any idea who we are playing but they come for the fun. The experience sells itself and frankly I would like the Athletic office to spend their time getting corporate visitors next year. The stadium is open so the focus must shift. People don't need to know who we are playing as much as they need to know they are going to have an easy seamless fun night/day. My alum friend didn't care if he was attending the Indiana or ULM game when he went to Denton (it was ULM). So generous of him to grace his alma mater with his attendance. It obviously wasn't exciting enough to get him back. Oh well, to heck with alums like that. Focus on people who could potentially care, not the indifferent. Let people laugh at MTSU. We are going to finish 5-7 in year one of a rebuilding project. Are you kidding me! That is great and what a year it has been! See you all in December. GMG
  25. How is it that an 8 hour work day can crawl like a turtle but an 8 hour tailgate flashes by like the wind! GMG
