The longer we keep UTEP and Tulsa the better. It will show them the richness of our new league with fans traveling and that newleague spirit. They are going to have a great time on the hill and seeing the Mean Green machine roll into their towns. GMG

It was pretty amazing to see OU reduced to what appeared to be a mid-level Big 12 team. I was against the Sumlin hire, but goodness what he has done with the horses in the SEC is amazing. I also believe the SEC prepared the Aggies mentally. They showed up cocky and stayed that way while thumping a team I often root for. I almost felt earlier this week that OU knew exactly what was coming to them. It looked like they were going to rattle Johnny early, but you can't get field goals against the maroon. Once Johnny Football got rolling it was over. I liked the opening too about Texas A&M representing the State of Texas and the SEC. Aggie Nation rising. GMG

Texas has gone from shunning them to being viewed as avoiding them. Texas would actually benefit from playing and trying to take down a top 5 team in the country next year. It would raise their SOS. But with that said this was about the Aggies and watching one of the coolest programs in the country. I tune in to watch any Oregon game and I do that with the Aggies now too. I even hosted a Johnny Football cookout/bonfire last night. We raised a tequila shot to the Aggies at the end of the night and I woke up feeling all those beers too. It was a blast and my new friends were thinking - good gosh how will he be when the Mean Green get good again! Even my Texas friends couldn't help but shout with some amazement. It was all in good fun and now back to the Mean Green!!!!! GMG

1. Looking at the new CUSA map and seeing us in the middle instead of an outlier for the first time in 25 years! 2. Most away games and tailgates in a long time: FAU, Monroe, Houston and LSU. 3. THE HIT at LSU 4. Watching the comeback against LaLa on national TV from LA Some good ones even in a weak season! GMG

What's Happening From CUSA & Commish' Banowsky?
NM Green replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I do as well. I think ODU brings instant brand recognition to CUSA. UTSA brings a destination city. MTSU bridges the Southern gap and FAU has better facilities than FIU. I think all of the Adds are bringing something good to the table including us with our excellent facilities and recruiting hotbed location. GMG -
As long as they have that big basketball power you let them back in. That conference in bball is loaded including Wyoming's undefeated team this year. CSU is always strong as well. That is a stout league no matter how you slice it in bball: UNLV,UNM,SDSU,CSU,Wyoming, Boise. Hawaii and Nevada have been known to make some noise as well! CUSA needs to get its hoops and football in order! GMG

I spent New Years in New Orleans and I actually saw this coming. The Louisville fanbase was out in force and there were so few Florida fans until New Years Day when I was leaving. Louisville reminded me of UNT's first trip to the Big Easy on steroids. We had a good chunk of fans that traveled to MSY but I don't know who was left in the Ville this week! They took over Pat O'Bryans, there were more Louisville flags hanging from the balconies and just a lot more fans. I have never liked Louisville but I was rooting for them because their fanbase was sooooo excited to be there. Their team showed it too. Friday night tailgate on the deck, Johnny football will be throwing - I'm not ready for football to end! Go TAMU GMG

La Tech is a truly bizarre program. For a school that is 3 hours east of DFW, they have lived out west for so long that I just don't see them until I care to look. This was even when I was in WAC country and I would tune in to see what Hawaii did out in Ruston. Yet, I go to Southern LA and there is more of a Ragin Cajun feel than even a Tulane, Monroe or La Tech buzz. I have almost heard as much if not more about Monroe as I have about La Tech. I did tune in the night they played A&M from the West Coast. Starting in 2013 I look forward to sparking our conference rivalry, but for a program that has been around for a long time they seem to have been misplaced for about a decade. CUSA will be good for them. ASU is a bear and us pure fballers know just how good the Indians...erh Red Wolves have been for quite some time. GMG

Living in NM at the time of the 16 there was major opposition to losing rivalries. However, BYU and Utah were still in the league and big draws in the Pit. The split has and always will be an issue with UNM; however, I don't know how much power they truly weild. I will say they will fight like mad if they lose the rivalries with UNLV and SDSU. Those three basketball powers drive the bball image of the league with an emerging Boise. You let Boise drive the football bus and the MWC is in great shape! I don't see why you need Dallas and Houston when your team is going to have the best shot at getting to the BCS every year. Living in Vegas during the rise of the MWC I can tell you that TCU even with their dominance always was an outlier. There was so little interest about TCU in Las Vegas because the Rebels stunk in football and TCU even when decent played in front of a few hundred fans at home. There was no emotional connection to the Frogs, so I am not sure how excited SDSU, Fresno and UNLV will be to adding the Ponies and Coogs. It would be like getting that random game against that team from far away - ala Ball State and Ohio when the Mean Green play them every now and then. Tulsa to me would be even further off the emotionally charged chart. CUSA - cares about markets MWC - cares about rivalries SBC - plays with a chip on its shoulder BE - cares about surviving MAC - cares about tradition and regional rivalries GMG

Well if you are arguing academics and then trying to lobby for the MWC, I just don't think you argument is making much sense at all. You go west and you get Hawaii, UNLV, Nevada, San Jose State, Utah State, Fresno, New Mexico...great institutions of course but Duke, Rice, Vanderbilt, Tulane you are not. Tulsa is smart for waiting to see how the dust settles rather than jumping aimlessly into the abyss. The new CUSA is going to have some excellent rivalries and does not suffer from the negative brand image that the Big East and the Sun Belt do. I would argue and may be solo on this, but I believe the Sun Belt image has improved this year and shed some of its baggage. For UNT I would do the following in this order: 1. Accept an invite to MWC 2. Build CUSA No Big East and no Sun Belt. Time for the right change. GMG

I call out horrifying disgusting football when I see it, and that includes games I have watched by UNT. I will call it like I see it and those may have been the two worst programs I have ever seen play a bowl game. Big boy program. Look at the violet froggie talking smack. Worry about beating your green tomorrow. Froggie makes me laugh. They ain't ever gonna visit a BCS game again but they will make some dinero. Notice I didn't say UNT would obliterate either program. I said Arkie State and MTSU would. Now I see what little frog syndrome sounds like. GMG
-
This is some of the most tragic football I have seen. Granted I didn't watch the whole ULM debacle earlier in the day but I can't believe someone is going to get a trophy out of this travesty of a bowl matchup. Arkie State and MTSU would roll either one of these programs. GMG

SMU Shows Dominance and Progress in Hawaii
NM Green replied to DallasGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Congrats to the pony and they should be a minimum bar that we cross. With a larger alumni base and better facilities we simply must strive to win 3 of 4 bowl games in a four year stretch. Mac knows the bar. RV feels the bar and now is the time to deliver. We will be a better team by the time we play the ponies and Jones will most likely be gone after this year. Keep the series. We will compete, we will win and this will become a big time matchup that many are looking forward to for the next few years. GMG -
Well that makes it very interesting because BYU would love nothing more than to be the top dog in a conference like they were so many years in the WAC. If they formed a new league I would imagine it would look like this: BYU Boise State San Diego State New Mexico UNLV Air Force Navy Fresno State Colorado State Wyoming This group does not care as much about big markets which makes SMU and Houston tenuous at best. I think they go for quality and if they have to bring in markets only then look for SJSU, Houston and SMU to be considered. However, those western schools can do without the Coogs and Ponies. Those program names just don't hold the water in their eyes. This league would go for a long long time precisely because these players know the power of regional and rivalry. THey have also been playing each other a long time. Everybody in that league loves when BYU comes to town. GMG

I smell a large amount of W's and a bowl in 2013
NM Green replied to trussbussdad's topic in Mean Green Football
I am smelling 3 wins next year. I still am not sure how we got to four in 2012. If we do better fantastic, but i am hoping for at least three. Beat Idaho! GMG -
Wisconsin To Hire Utah State Football Coach
NM Green replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Utah State was solid and he is a good hire. I saw the Aggies beat SJSU in Cali this year. Both of those programs were Big 12 Baylor/Texas Tech quality. Can't discount the early decade run. I don't care what league you are in, if you win 20 plus conference games in a row and go to four bowl games for the first time in 50 years - you have accomplished something quite phenomenal. It was quite the ride as well! GMG -
ODU discusses 2014 bowl eligibility with C-USA
NM Green replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
They already have tremendous name recognition. If they can get there so be it. Let them compete. GMG -
UH before Boise and UCONN. Makes me giggle. I don't want Houston to fail. I want everyone to succeed. You my friend are the one with the warped perception. GMG

The fact of the matter is that winning changes moods. We simply need to turn that corner in both major sports because that is the only thing that will change the tone. Now I did not understand the sometimes negative tone at the banquet the other night. It felt misplaced. However in a way it was a good sign, because the AD and this football team feel pressure to win. They are practically begging for patience in a youtube world. It isn't going to happen. You also can't slow down social media and opinions unless we were posting in North Korea or China. It is what it is and with speed of communication comes the speed of expectation. Git her done Mac! GMG

Yeah. Keep Canales and let's see this system gel in 2013. GMG

True that but I don't think Cristobal is a bad coach. I think whoever lands him will get a good one. You also have to go out on some limbs when in Lubbock. GMG

The question is how many programs does the MWC need? In the biggest case scenario you could have: San Jose State Fresno State San Diego State Boise State Utah State UNLV New Mexico Nevada Air Force Colorado State UTEP Tulsa SMU Houston Wyoming BYU Doesn't that still leave Rice for CUSA making CUSA: Rice UNT UTSA La Tech Texas State Middle Tennessee FIU FAU Southern Miss Old Dominion UNC Charlotte UAB This is still better than our current lineup. I would think Marshall would be a good candidate for the Big East. GMG

Big East deal could be worth as little as $60 million per year
NM Green replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
This game of musical chairs is silly. I know we are all freaking out about who we are aligning ourselves with, but after it all shakes out we will still be building a power program in the middle of DFW. Go beat programs we need to beat and go bowling. Have some fun, hit some tailgates, take some roadies and grow our attendance. The goals haven't really changed at all. Oh yeah and Beat La Tech! GMG
