Sam Houston State Fans Poll and Discuss HC Candidates
NM Green replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Chico is setting himself up nicely for a long successful career in the college football. He is learning from one of the best and sponging up tactics, techniques and strategies. Coach will appreciate taking the spiral staircase instead of the express escalator in a few short years. I am glad he helped build this program in North Texas because he will always respect it and may lead it one day. GMG- 5 replies

Off Season Discussion: At What Moment Did You Think....
NM Green replied to UNTLifer's topic in Mean Green Football
Definitely La Tech. We have struggled against them since I have followed the program in '86. Going into Ruston on that cold day that warmed up brilliantly and breaking through the wall of those teams we usually lose to was the sign. I felt at that point we were going to hit six but I was still scared of the old UNT showing up in Hattiesburg. The 41-7 halftime lead in front of another homecoming bummer told me not only were we going bowling, but this team was one of the best I had ever seen in my time following the Mean Green. I called back to Texas and said, "We never go up 41-7 on anyone, even an 19 game losing streak team!" This team was on a mission and I was pumped to get bowl eligible at that point. I know the STAND was up there with the Miracle in the Desert for me, but I didn't appreciate the Rice win until about a month later when I realized who we beat. The next nervousness was waiting on the bowl announcement and hoping I wouldn't have to break the news to the family that I was going to be in Honolulu on the most special day of the year. It all worked out amazingly. All the way down to that freaky 76 degree weather day for the Bowl Game! What I love is that we also left goals to shoot for in 2014. This year I hope this team contends for the West, conference championship and one of the most shocking wins in our history down in Austin in a few short months. Lots of goals - go get'em Mean Green!!!!! GMG -
New contract to pay UNLV's Bobby Hauck $850,000 a year
NM Green replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Glad for Bobby Hauck. He has turned the corner for UNLV football which has been in the dregs for longer than we were. He is much like Mac in that he has instilled a winning attitude and now better recruits will flock to Las Vegas - better than usual. You continue to go bowling and compete for an MWC title and all of a sudden you get the LV community behind you and your new stadium on the Strip. The dude's house was practically for sale in mid-September and then he ends up in a New Years Day bowl. I love persistence and passion and Bobby has both. Way to go Rebs! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!! -
Off Season Discussion: Greatest Memory of the 2013-14 Season?
NM Green replied to UNTLifer's topic in Mean Green Football
There were so many: 1. Tailgating and the Element games - we have them every year: Huddled under the tent with about 50 in the rain during MTSU. Sweltering heat but a delicious W for Idaho, sitting under a heat lamp for 3 hours before the UTSA game - the elements rear their head every year and always make for memorable games! 2. The Stand - simply the best since the Miracle in the Desert which I witnessed firsthand. 3. Southern Miss - looking at my friend and saying - we are never up 41-7 on anyone much less Southern Miss and singing our cheer songs to their band - they are the same (good job Rick V). Never forget the Southern Miss fans talking smack to us on the way into the Rock thinking - these guys are bold bumping their gums on a 19 game losing streak at the time. Then getting free tickets because they suck so bad from a Golden Eagle diehard. Southern Miss fans are good people and that program will be back. Got to get them NOW! 4. Making every Mean Green game this year except Georgia and Tulsa. 5. The surreal HOD experience. The staycation at the Omni, seeing UNT flashing in downtown, every pre-party possible and the chamber of commerce day weather. Universities dream of an experience like we had on New Years day a few weeks back. 6. The realization that UNT has won 3 bowl games in 100 years and I have seen 2 of them in the Superdome and Cotton Bowl. Are you kidding me! GMG -

I live a block off Greenville. We can decorate the float in the front and have a cookout in the back with post parade party to follow. Then you market the Mean Green float around campus and tell all the students to come cheer it on. You get some of those Dallas bowl followers since we will be in their neighborhood again. Marketing PR potential here. GMG -

I am in to assist as well! Wouldn't it be cool for Coach or some players to be hoisting that big ole Heart of Dallas hardware as the fans cheer and drink as the floats roll by. GMG -
So 1p tip means Mean Green hoops tailgate in the lot at 11am! Bring the cold ones Nation! GMG

I thought it was a homecoming throw back thing. Had no idea he was for real forever! But we did win bowl game #3 in 100 years under that crazy looking bird. GMG

I love college football for all its imperfections and random craziness. In addition to the fun games I heard two announcers struggle: 1. Yesterday on the radio broadcast for Houston and Vanderbilt one of the announcers kept calling the player, Trayvon Martin instead of Trayvon Stewart. He had to keep correcting himself, but dude was struggling trying to observe, think and speak at the same time. 2. Tonight Danny Kannel was promptly corrected to use the term "Little Person" formation. Ahhhhhh college football - sad face there is only one game left! GMG

Arkie State's churn through coaches and the fact they just keep on winning is incredible! GMG

What a GAME! GMG

I will say I am looking forward seeing UNT90 and Plum Mean Colorful bring it to Ponyfans.com. later on this year. Like UTSA they have no idea what joy they are in for. I am going to pop an extra bag of popcorn for this one. GMG

It is hard to believe that Ball State has not won a bowl game! They seem to have had some solid years and have been bowling for awhile. I think an Arkie State Mean Green game this year would have been very evenly matched. GMG

Sport Illustrated's 44 Pics of Heart of Dallas Bowl Game
NM Green replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I love pic 13 with Derek looking totally in charge on his way to MVP. I doubted this guy so much and he commanded that team and displayed incredible leadership skills this year. Thank you DT! As a fan of Bobby Hauck and UNLV follower I wish them continued growth and success. They are a neat story and I hope they get to play in the Las Vegas Bowl one day. That would be special for them. I felt they were going to be a little like we were in New Orleans Round 1 - excited but outmatched. Good luck Rebels now onto Basketball! GMG -
Rooting for the Sun Belt to finish perfect, plus gotta love ArkSt Fan's insight and commentary. I always feel I am getting some secret information from behind the vault when that guy posts about realignment and politics. GO ARKIE STATE! GMG

I like the idea of making the Cotton Bowl a goal. Apogee is special and everyone who goes there loves it and has a great time - Mean Green or opposing fan. Let's focus on getting the people to Denton and make the Cotton Bowl our Home Away from Home for the coming years on New Years Day!!!!! GMG

And they will be selling beer. Yum GMG

He will be good for them, but Texas fan was thinking Saban, Fisher and Briles. Texas Strong has a nice ring but we can be competitive with them in August. I love how Mac doesn't let the guys think paycheck game. We will bring it and it will be fun to be there! GMG
-
I like the idea of giving the students an early deadline to get their tickets. They will and that leaves fewer walk up opportunities. If I have to sit in the Eagle Tip I will have the best picture in the house! GMG

I love the charity tie in. It made the HOD Bowl feel extra special knowing it was benefiting the community. We also have a University profile that aligns nicely with being inclusive and caring. GMG

So Proud for the Mean Green Nation
NM Green replied to ParksAndRecRick's topic in Mean Green Football
30. Opening up the bowl week of events at Kung Fu Saloon. Drinking A LOT and everyone having their drinks on my tab and escaping with a $143 bill. Are you kidding me? My friends bill was only $75 and we know they had to lose count somewhere in there. 31. Getting to spend time with Rob and Christopher and the fantastic job they did with the Alumni Association events. 32. Positioned in the stands watching in awe as the rush of fans charged onto the field and realizing there is a whole other generation behind me that is firmly indoctrinated into the Mean Green cult. I even ran downtown this afternoon and took a walk through the Omni to get a rush of good feelings before my mile run back to the car. GMG -
Exactly why I went this year. Winning CUSA and getting back here will not be easy especially with WKU, UTSA, Marshall, Rice and Middle sniffing around. GMG

I see Runner was terrorizing us almost a year ago at this time. Just about EVERYONE had us beating UTSA and most beating Tulane. A lot of us myself included had us losing to La Tech, but one guy did point out their youth and new coaching transition. I hope that dude didn't throw himself into the Ecuadorian volcano after our loss to UTSA. GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!
