Great pub but isn't it funny how they can turn a positive energy filling speech/Q&A session by Mac into a Debbie downer by talking about our apathetic alum, apathetic Denton and inability to sell out Apogee. Facts are facts and WE must change that. It just seemed weird after Coaches infectious passionate session. This spring we must start the Hit 32 Campaign, preferably the SMU game. GMG

I am doing both. Happy Hour starts early and ticket broadcast is later. Then back to downtown to revel with other Mean Greeners on Monday night. This is when it is fantastic living by SMU. GMG

We have six in our group and am dangerously close to signing up 8 more. I think the walk up and last minute buy by out of towners and curious folks is going to be good. I was thinking 32,000 but we may get 40,000. GMG

What are the HOD Bowl events the team attends- fun stuff?
NM Green replied to Charlie NT 73's topic in Mean Green Football
Us fans really need to represent at the Pep Rally at Fair Park and at Babbs Brothers. Throw in Kung Fu Saloon and Owners Box too. Please get out to these events and show the power of the Mean Green Nation. There will also be good shots of the pep rally during the HOD Bowl and it would be great to see a lot of GREEN supporting. I was shocked what little sliver of space Rally House gave us over by the Galleria. They did have shirts but jeez the size of TCU, Tech, Baylor, OU, Aggie and Horn was obscene. Our little sliver of space was in the center back. Hey I got my shirts but we need to earn a larger space. We need to make the Mean Green section expand by showing up loud and proud. GMG -
SMU extends June Jones' Contract through 2017
NM Green replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
The problem with June is that he has ZERO personality and a program like SMU who needs connection with the general public needs a salesperson coach. You are going to get wins but not random fans with Jones. I was in Hawaii when he was there and he had the same stone face but actually connected a bit more with the community, not much more but more. He is a bad energy profile for that program. Oh well. That was the absolute best onside kick I've ever seen. I am rooting for Ohio and have no emotional connection with ECU in any way. GMG

Props for whoever selected this location for next week's opening happy hour gathering. That place is a blast. I did the Sunday Funday crawl yesterday from Craft and Growler to Katy Trail Ice House to Kung Fu Saloon and I was pleasantly surprised. The bar scene is hot and the beer selection was solid. TV's everywhere for Sunday Night football watching and Uptown folks socializing in force. It is going to be great to have a Mean Green takeover of that place next Sunday night! Wear your most stylish Mean Green gear and prepare to have some fun! GMG

Casinos could help UNLV with HOD Tix allotment
NM Green replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Ummmm I worked for MGM Cosmopolitan and Tropicana for 6 years. Prying money out of a casino even for a great cause is tough. Now throw in some publicity, scantily clad cocktail servers, daytime pool advertising, the Mavs Dancers and Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders and now you might just get some interest:) GMG -
So I did another crawl around Fair Park last night and The Amsterdam Bar it is. I met the other manager and now both guys are totally on board with setting this place up as the Mean Green command center. The patio is HUGE and presents a slightly elevated deck which would be perfect for Mean Green photos. I envision some Mean Green flags balloons and other decorations where Mean Green fans can photo together in front of the Amsterdam Bar sign. It is a perfect opportunity to throw the bar name all over Facebook with Mean Green fans cawing in front of it. The Manager is also down with Mean Green flags out front and decorations throughout the bar. So this is where I need some assistance. My brother has the contact and will be coordinating from the Green Diehard side. However, we need decorations, flags, beads anything Green we can deck the bar and patio out with. I don't know if the best route is to go with one person or a committee to bring all this together, but ideally we should get the supplies by the end of the week. The other great thing is that the bar is eager to make a Mean Green concoction so recipe ideas are welcomed. Perhaps PM me if you want to jump into the planning and I will put you in touch with my brother who is connecting with the bar management. So here is what we have so far: Event: Post game celebration of the season and game Location: The Amsterdam Bar Time: Following the Heart of Dallas Bowl Notes: Need Mean Green flag(s) to identify bar in the front Need Mean Green flag(s) and decorations to set picture stage and tables on the patio Need Mean Green concoction ideas to submit to bartenders Going to create announcement for Facebook and diehard recruitment efforts Entertaining idea of photographer for photo shots on the Green deck More to come but if available win or come up short we have a lot to celebrate about this season! Go Mean Green!!!!!

On a great note I have a national championship cousin in the family! Way to go ULL way to go Penn State!!!!! GMG
-
Rooting for ULL but switching between the New Orleans Bowl and the Woman's Volleyball National Championship between Penn State and Wisconsin. My cousin is the starting Libero for Penn State and could bring home a National Championship back to Texas in a few short hours. Us Mexicans don't always have the height, but with agility you can soar and even possibly win a National Championship! Proud cousin here - Go Dominique Gonzalez - Go PSU!!!!! GMG

No thanks to WSU. I think we match up horribly with them. We will have a big lead by half on New Years Day. GMG

DMN's Tim Cowlishaw on UNT: "Hey, they had a nice year.."
NM Green replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
That is bogus. I as a fan learn about the programs in that city I live. I am not a sportswriter but can name their league foes, players, results. I become a season ticket holder and t shirt wearing fan. This tool works in the city with 100k Alumni couldn't name who is in our league doesn't care about the interesting journey UNT and unlv have taken to a New Year's Day bowl game. There is fascination in that story yet he chooses not to see it. His choice. I shouldn't be more informed than him in his role and if I was in charge I would fire him for lack of energy and commitment to creating interest. He has 3 local programs to dig up interesting stories on. You don't you don't survive in my organization. I fire you and hire young or seasoned investigative reporters who lift up readers with new fresh stories. I don't care if you are type a b c or d person you will thrive in my organization by bringing it everyday. Cowlishaw need not apply and he certainly wouldn't survive. GMG -
UNT Says Beer Sales at Football Games Are Ongoing Discussion
NM Green replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Bring on the alcohol and see the attendance rise. It is funny how when you make something less taboo adult decisions seem to follow. Give me choice give me control over my situation. Living in Vegas for 6 years I loved having alcohol served 24 hours a day. Contrary to what most believe, me and all my friends did not live in casinos and binge drink 24/7/365. However, if I wanted a nightcap at 5:00am is was fantastic having that option and it sure kept us from the 1:59am binge. GMG- 17 replies

Two for sure possibly four.

So true and we are getting there. We need a low cost alternative for those not making it to the Tower Club. All of those bars around the Tower Club I am sure will be hopping on NYE but due to the evening might be tough to get a dedicated place to plant at unless they have a UNT connection. The one very cool place I like down there is City Tavern on Main St. It has a good casual vibe and if something gets set up I would leave right after the champagne toast at the Tower Club and toast with the diehards for the last hour and half. So I did some impromptu site visits to three of the four bars outside Fair Park this afternoon, because it is more fun than working: The Amsterdam Bar - A guy named Frank appeared to be the owner or manager and I loved this place. It has the feel of a Fry Street Bar with heavy wood, tap brews and an assortment of liquors. I told Frank I was looking at a post gathering place for Mean Green fans after the Heart of Dallas Bowl. He was totally open to it and even asked if we were looking for certain or additional liquors to be offered. I shared with him that when in New Orleans our designated bars had a special Mean Green concoction that was offered...I think this bar has outstanding potential and perhaps we could even get some Mean Green décor and flags displayed. However, I am not the Event Coordinator type who speaks "bar." So if someone on this site does feel free to follow up with Frank about potential drink specials, decorations...The Mean Green seed has been planted. Exposition Park - she (the manager) stated they would be open specifically for the Bowl Game and stated they had the best pizza, beer and liquor around. This was more of a restaurant but all of these bars are practically side by side. This would be good for those that want a bite to eat. Meridian Room - was not open but I have been there and it too is similar to The Amsterdam but with food. I am sure it will be open for the game and could be another good place for food and drinks. Craft and Growler - This place was cool and I plan on doing an enormous amount of last minute Christmas shopping here. It was similar to Oak Street Draft House where you order by number but was more modern than the other places and had a store/tasting room/lounge/beer counter feel. It was mid-afternoon and did have its fare share of patrons enjoying an afternoon break, but felt a bit more serious than the others. Definitely cool but newer and modern. My vote is for us to take over The Amsterdam Bar. Hang a Mean Green flag out front so all can find it easily (the entrance is off the side street but still easy to see from the entrance gates). Get a drink special set up, plant some Mean Green decorations inside and cram as many revelers into the bar as possible. Of course I plan on roaming through all four at some point but we need a Command Center. Now someone just call Frank, speak "Bar," and git'er done:) On the 31st is the Letterman's Reception Happy Hour at the Owners Box from 6p - 8p open to the public? It is on the Mean Green Heart of Dallas site so I would assume so. However, if not a pre-Tower Club gathering place could be Scotty's Elm St Saloon which is directly across from Thanksgiving Square where Tower Club is located. Three bars within extremely easy walking distance to Tower Club were Scotty's Elm Street Saloon, Stone Street Garden and Campisis. They could all be great watering holes before or after the Tower Club event and the bartender didn't seem to think there would be a cover at Scotty's on New Year's Eve. This could be another option if the Letterman's Association is a closed event. I plan on making it an all day affair with as little down time as possible. I am 15 minutes from all of these places so if follow up is needed just shout. GMG

I am thinking those bars across from the entrance are easily accessible for the fans who ride DART to the game. Grab a brewski celebrate with the GREEN before jumping back on the train! GMG
-
Debating because if I go it will be two max three or all 8 of us can cram into a MEAN GREEN Bar on Main St. Also how about a post happy hour after the tailgate at Fair Park at one of those bars across from the dart line drop. GMG

Does anyone have any specifics on what the party at the Tower Club will look like? Will there be heavy hor dourves, open or cash bar, band? There are several high octane parties in downtown Dallas at Plush, Dream NYE 2014 at em Lounge. My group will already be in downtown Dallas staying at the Omni so I want to make sure all can attend and the $75 is hefty without knowing what to sell. The Tower Club is awesome though and all may get some nice views of the fireworks at the NYE party. GMG

Sunday night hoops thoughts (Benford comments)
NM Green replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
All I kept thinking was how bad we are going to get killed in conference USA play. I might still go to El Paso to watch good bball but it won't be with us. I was clapping for sfa at the end of the game because even their scrubs were playing hard and sound bball. I have to applaud effort and performance. This no excuses squad deserves better. Do they even admit they play bball for UNT on campus? They wear my alma maters uniform and I clapped for them but not for the travesty UNT bball is right now. Foe unlv season ticket holder to watching this. Ouch. Now beat em in football darn it! GMG- 30 replies
