  1. Agree about the signing day rant. That was my first event to ever attend and I left very uncomfortable. I feel flat and hope seems so far away or non-existent at this time. GMG
  2. Yeah, I want a coach with a winning record and someone who is on the upswing. Fire is also important and that is why someone like Cristobal gets me intrigued. Nutt, Brown other coaches that are older don't bother me because of age, they concern me because of drive. You have to have a level of intensity to deal with what you are about to inherit at UNT. I say go for an up and comer with some proven success and wants to prove something. It will be competitive out there and UNT needs to step up to the plate. I also want the new AD involved in this process so we start clean and aligned without any kardashian drama in the office. GMG
  3. That's just it. For 20 year olds to quit says a lot: 1. The situation was beyond toxic. 2. Character of the players is now questioned. you can't walk back a quit job. You can only redeem yourself. These kids need to rebound or the real world is going to really spit them out onto the pavement in a not so friendly way. They tarnished the name of a great university without feeling or emotion. Wow that's serial like. now take it out on western. I want red blob splatter all over apogee. GMG
  4. Thank you for your passion and the great if the game. I love your city and good luck the rest of the way! Make some noise in the playoffs. GMG
  5. I know only people who have followed this program from early on will understand this, but I remember back in 1AA we built a solid Portland State type program that went in and competed and pulled the occasional upset. That year we beat Rice and Texas Tech and narrowly beat Texas (sigh) was proof that YOU CAN DO IT at North Texas. That regime hooked me early as a fan and they had zilch to build with. I don't go into P5's today like back then thinking UNT was going to put the scare into them or come out with a W. No whiners allowed and our new AD WILL sell out our beautiful gem of a stadium, hold town halls, get the community involved and be transparent with season ticket sales and donations. I mean these are basic things guys and I don't know how you expect an AD to build a Force of Green in a secretive vacuum. It's ax time Smastrek. Make this quick and get all kinds of fantastic candidates poising themselves for this incredible opportunity: New AD New Coach Solid Conference Affiliation Mega Major Sports Market 37,000 plus student base Texas Texas Texas GMG
  6. There are so many people proud of this University that should be working inside the Athletic Department and in anything associated with our fine institution. We have freedom of speech which I will always work to preserve, but our next coach will NOT have this attitude that UNT is somehow a lesser University to make it happen. We are blessed and supported and ripe for greatness. A believer from day one until the day he is done is who we will hire in the coming months. Green times ahead brothers and sisters. GMG
  7. I was sitting in a Starbucks in Brisbane listening to this game and was simply numb. First I was glad I didn't try to get home for this game. Second I thought, these kids have spoken. They have spoken loud and clear and that was before the firing. I wasn't mad, maybe knowing somewhere deep down this was going to bring about the change we want. Mac is gone and we will all make a big sigh of relief when RV is fired. Right now we can't fully embrace a vision of hope until RV is gone. 1. There are consequences to quitting and this team will forever be linked to bringing about shame and embarrassment to this University. Everyone could see it including our conference mates we let down by that display on Saturday. 2. I have no freaking idea what we will see on Thursday. We are playing football in Texas and have a roster full of Texans that I know did not forget how to play the game. Will they wake up and show their better side. Will days of ridicule and reflection ignite a fire of redemption in them? Is the real problem gone or is he still in the locker room? I would not be surprised by us rising to an amazing upset or being out legitimately by a near top 25 team. It is fascinating indeed and now RV needs to go to make me feel optimistic about the future. Lock the Gate GMG
  8. The good thing about the timing of this is that coordinators and coaches have a solid 7-12 weeks to perform and position themselves for this prime opportunity. Make no doubt about it the head coaching gig in North Texas is a prime time job. There are less than 130 of these positions across the USA. I am with Harry here that this is a new day in Mean Green country. A coordinator or coach would salivate to have this gig, these facilities in the heart of football country. Yes we need the right guy pulling the trigger and I need to see that soon. The pirate could decide he wants to win consistently again and operate in one of the worlds sporting mega markets. A stud coordinator is going to show his stuff to get a "look at me moment" from North Texas. Manny Diaz comes to mind and then you have slew of coordinators firing on all cylinders in the big 12 who want their own show. This is prime real estate boys and girls and now I am ready for the suitors to make me glance their way. The smu hype and crowd shows prospectives how ready to explode we are as a fan base. When you have numbers you have power. Smastrek's now leads a university with more students than his previous two universities combined. They each had a power sport or two - ladies volleyball and football in Hawaii and basketball in Vegas. What could he do with a power sport in North Texas other than look like the high powered CEO we hired. So future coaches put your best game tape together. 6 games 8 games 10 games we look forward to analyzing your films and learning your story. Most importantly being ignited by your vision for one of the best opportunities in the world. Go Mean Green!!!!!
  9. Rick needs to go asap. Not a supporter for the future here. Thank you for some of the things you did. Clean slate time. GMG
  10. Celebrate like heck! It gets us one game closer to bowl eligibility. Lol serioisly win enjoy it and try to preserve some dignity in national tv on Thursday. Gmg
  11. RV's like a chunky kid in a candy store right now. I bet his phone is ringing off the hook from 1AA's asking to be put on our schedule. Do not let this man doom our scheduling for 10 years after he gets fired. Take the phone and pen away from him now. GMG
  12. They were having "Technical Difficulties" at first and I thought the interview was going to have to be scrubbed - how convenient. But he came on and disgusted some more: Southern Miss is a really good football team AM is still our starter Anyone else still needs practice How does AM get a pass on all of this? I mean seriously your qb needs some athleticism. I sure as heck would love to hear him apologize to the fans for their performance, his coaching staff's coaching...Nothing. This is so brewing into Dickey - us against the world at the end of his stint. GMG
  13. Can we give up saying the word 6 for awhile. I mean every bit of blood sweat and tear needs to go into beating Portland State this week. There is no other game to even talk about because if PSU comes in and waxes us which they totally could we are looking at our first O-fer season since I have been alive. And I am a 60's child. So don't mention UTEP and UTSA. Those nightmares will come. Focus on the Vikings and somehow pulling the upset on your home turf in front of 8,999 fans. GMG
  14. I watched UTSA beat UTEP online and we are going to get smoked by the roadchickens again in our own house. Unfreakingbelievable. I just don't want that o-fer season since I have never witnessed that from my team in Green. Low bar please clear. GMG
  15. Cougar Queen is too busy trying to find something to beach about since his team is so solid this year. You know once you go negative you never go back. Rudy no checking out allowed. I am living overseas now and wear my jersey out on game day which is Sunday overseas. If I am in China I can't even get KNTU or any stations to listen to due to being in, ,well you know where. I will eventually find my way to the internet only to find out we got blown out by mass a weapon of mass destruction called SMU. Yeah it suxs, but what doesn't suck is the Mean Green across my chest and beer in hand showing my colors to people who have no idea what I am doing proudly. Now can I get an Amen. Suit up yell like hell for us to beat Portland State and wait for the axe to fall on this regime - RV and MAC. There are Greener days ahead. GMG
  16. I am still shell-shocked about that dude who got the job at Sam Houston State! Yikes. Look we have to be strategic here. I would fire Mac right now and have Canales take over immediately. Watch another run ensue and then make him compete for the gig full time. Meanwhile we work to lure The Pirate back to Texas. We need a complete change and being in the best recruiting bed in Texas, he certainly won't have to go to Iowa to get a quarterback and receivers. We need to get our arse in gear to compete with the local programs. GMG P.S. - You fire Mac before Benford because this is Texas. It's like that post from earlier - you know the intensity you are stepping into in this State in this sport. Bring it or get out of the kitchen.
  17. I can barely listen to him speak anymore. But I root for the jersey and the Mean Green will outlive this disastrous coaching staff. There are no guarantees we win a game this year and right now I just want to preserve that 100 plus record of no Ofer seasons. GMG
  18. Don't play the victim card. We are a heartbeat from being in the glorious AAC if that's what y'all think it is. An smu move and we are there. Or we could carve out our own excellence. gmg
  19. Fan since 1986. Witnessed the Robbery in Austin. Went crazy at the Miracle in the Desert. Got glassy eyed at the Loophole or Ellingtons whichever is was when we beat Idaho for our first Bowl Berth. Witnessed two Texas Tech victories in Lubbock and a gut-wrenching fumble loss in the closing minutes. Went to all 5 Bowl games we have been in this decade. Went to most games home and away in 2013 - saw us wipe La Tech, Southern Miss, UTEP and Rice that season (The Stand in person) what a RIDE! Flew in from Sydney last Thursday and out to Hong Kong this Monday all in the name of The Mean Green Experience family and friends. Runs deep. GMG
  20. Big 10 roadies are fun. I went to IU last year and the fans were great inviting us into their tailgates and they had this great mesmorization with Denton. Everyone had a story about Denton - a drive thru or girlfriend or Miss America fantasy or something. Big game environments rock. Beat the Hawkeyes. GMG
  21. We would finally sell out Apogee with Mike Leach. GMG
  22. How bizarre that they are cherry picking conference mates of the G5. Uconn sucks at football. What this move screams to me is "yeah we don't really want this policy because we want some wins for our program and fans." The biggies are realizing the final four really will be pulled from about 30 programs max every year. So in a strange way the lower p5s are feeling shut out like the G5 have for years and it will only get worse. Here is your new ncaa with like 90 programs growing in disgust. The nutsack is if you know who gets there before we do. GMG
  23. 6 wins? Dude I am as optimistic as they come but I seriously just want this team to beat UTSA. I would consider that a successful season. Win 4 or 5 games and miss bowling and lose to UTSA again - that would be miserable. I really don't see this team winning more than one game this year and that is a hope. By the way I loved everything but the dumb football yesterday. I loved hanging with my Mean Green family and would not have changed a thing except the score and rain time. GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!
  24. I'm even going old school and hangin in the bars up there and got a hotel. I may get 3 or 4 games max this year so gonna soak them in! gMg
  25. I'm with old guy student here. Enjoy the moments and take joy in apogee opening weekend. Emotional attachment in the end is what is important and channeling emotion for good is great. Important is how that emotion is presented - constructive or destructive - inspiring or deflating? approach with the right attitude mobilize energies and build a true culture of hope and optimism. i will take solace in family friends Mean Green football and never walk alone at the end of the game. I am traveling in from Sydney and plan on enjoying the moment. It will be a winning experience either way. steam rice go Mean Green!!!!!
