I renewed months ago before RV was even gone because UNT still provides the most excitement on fall weekends for me. I have lived through 1, 2 and 9 win seasons and loved so many other elements of the season other than the W's and L's. I love the changes being made and am hopeful for the future. Bring on the fall. I do like the midnight oil guy because I think there is so much work to be done that you need the energy and drive of the 35 - 45 year old looking to prove themselves. They would also relate brilliantly to our nice young coaches (basketball pending.) However, there is this undercurrent that has to be considered and this makes it more intricate. Realignment is on the front page again. If you get the right person to come in and sell the vision of UNT and talk about how we must absolutely be aligned with the Houston, TCU, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State's of the world I think you have to listen to that person. That report which showed us as having the most alumni in North Texas is a tool to leverage such a conversation. But you need the right person selling us inside (students), outside (national) and sideways (Denton/DFW community). We have something few in our state have that is massive numbers of alumni and community to turn on. One of the richest most affluent upcoming areas of the Great State of Texas is sitting at our doorstep. I don't care how hard someone works, if they don't see the greatness UNT can be I don't want them. If you have politically savvy cigar smoking connected leader that doesn't have the stamina to do the hard work, I don't want them. There are no shortcuts to excellence. Establish high standards for this hire and see who is up to the challenge. May the best man or woman win. GMG

Agree. You need to accentuate value. When I send a contract and throw in a freebie I put exactly what that freebie costs the person who has to pay. I am all for promotions. Even chicken ones, but free tickets unless to a school or band in exchange for a performance or effort. gmg

Not all extensions are created equal. This is a home run! I was in Hawaii when Smastrek worked some magic then in Vegas when he did unlv well. Now at unt he sees our position as highly favorable and will continue to do great things for good the green and white. I am optimistic about our new b ball coach to come and ad in the wings. Dr. Smastrek the real deal and glad to see some commitment here! It's all good and it's all Green! gmg

Exactly. Last year was the worst team I had seen since following for 29 years. We will not be that bad and will be knocking on door for bowl game. Get there not sure but 4-5 wins yes 6 with some creativity. I personally feel we will look like tech where we score and can't stop a feather. So outscore them boys. gmg

A refreshing post in many ways because I do feel UNT has come a long way. With that said I also feel a change at the AD level is beyond due. It will happen when his contract is up and until then it appears a lot of power has been pulled from his hands and that is a good thing for UNT and us fans. But the power has to be intoxicating. Much like Washington people who gain access and visibility are not quick to let it go. In fact they fight tooth and nail to stay in the inner circle. The problem is our leader inside the circle is weak and needs to go. But the power is intoxicating. Raise your bar big money donors. Don't think small. Think of how sweet and amazing it will be to be inside of the inner circle of a winning program. You have power of influence here and I hope you choose to use it for good. Put more demands on this guy like the power programs do. UNT is a goldmine of opportunity but it will take a peppering demand from all sides to get the most out of the controller. Smastrek does it, the fans are doing it, the 17 need to do it and I know we will ascend to a greater place. GMG

Good for Rice. I would not want any part of this. 1. Texas will find a way to win. It's Texas and they do what they do. 2. Texas needs Houston exposure so this could be much more about the great AD at Texas vs the AD at Rice. 3. 2 games at Texas - 2 more miserable losses to that fanbase. No thank you. I would be more interested in getting the game at the Cotton Bowl during the Fair than a game at AT & T. GMG

It only matters how much you dislike that other team. Michigan state hates Michigan but osu is the big blue rival. I dislike utsa and smu regardless whether they despise losing to us or not. And they will! gmg

I feel no connection or passion against Texas state. I think Utep and utsa and rice feel more like rivals than state. Heck I feel more passion against nmsu and Arlie state than the Bobcats. Rivalry games to me: 1. Smu 2. Utsa but dislike them more 3. Rice 4. Utep 5. Arkie state gmg
