  1. I truly believe the style we are creating is as important as the wins that will come. UNT needs to be entertaining and successful. You cannot expect to run out of the gate and just perform to perfection. I believe SMU is a solid team and will be pretty good in what looks like a top heavy AAC. I believe we will be better by October and better in November. I feel a surprise win in the future and a horrible loss too. We look like SMU of last year and that is not a bad thing. The trajectory is heading in the right direction and that is what is most important - the trajectory in every element of experience (AD, Coach, President...) Beat BC. GMG
  2. Just need to nut it up and win. No feeling sorry for ourselves with 10 games left. I still would love for us to get out of September 2-2. GMG
  3. Congrats to Houston and they will be in final 4 if they win out. But let's face it, it is still greater to be Mean Green. My friend had her first Apogee experience last Saturday and loved it so much she is trying to figure out how to make it back for more games later this season. I am telling you, one awesome weekend, tailgate and game experience in Denton hooks you for life. GO MEAN GREEN! P.S. - And we may have a 90 but at least we don't have a cougar queen. Bless their hearts.
  4. Take a look at that picture. One kid has his hat on backwards while the kid next to them has it facing the right way playing the same instrument. That's inconsistency folks and may as well teach them young about the goal of a "uniform." I wouldn't let that band take the stands or field unless they represented with excellence. That is not an excellent look out there. It is a lazy look and because the band falls under the umbrella of game experience I am confident Wren will have some say and input into the impression they make. The music was not bad and as mentioned in a previous thread the dance routine incorporating the soloists was awesome. However, details matter. A leader I admired once said, "It's the little things that are the big things." Precision and consistency are awesome. GMG
  5. One more thing I forgot to say in the survey is that while the Green Brigade sounded awesome and I loved how they incorporated the soloists into the dancers routine - very cool and noticeable. But Green Brigade please: 1. Wear your darn uniforms. If SMU can put on the peppermint, Texas can wear their gaudy getup and the Corp can march in pants - you need to do so too! Come on Man! It was one of the coolest early September games ever and you still can wear the uniforms until October. 2. Please kill Louie Louie - that song drives me absolutely nuts because it is too slow - very low energy - stale. Freshen it up every season. Surprise us! Perhaps play Louie 1 or 2 times in 6 games but change it out. See what BYU does with their HUGE satin banner that runs up the students side of their basketball games at a designated time of every game. It is very high energy - gets everyone pumped up including Cosmo the Cougar, fans, alum...Louie Louie is slow and demoralizing especially when you are having your butt beat pretty good. That's it. Keep refining, refining, refining every game. This survey gives me hope for basketball season which needs a full throttle cleansing if you ask me. GMG
  6. Disagree about showing up to buy a ticket an expecting a wait. This was a cluster and finally a worker came out and just started handing out free tickets to the students with proof of ID. Why didn't they do that from the start? That would have freed up the line big time. Also, why do the students not already have their tickets - don't they pay for these as part of their tuition or is that something that just the TAMU's of the world do? A scan is truly the simplest way to make that happen. Lastly, is there a way to set up a flash account and forgive my ignorance if this is already a GO. I just always drag stragglers to the games so am always having to buy tickets at the gate at the last minute. The FC Dallas flash buy is pretty darn easy. GMG P.S. - My frustration comes from the fact that this Athletic Department never knows how to handle a big event! What on earth would they do if 30k showed up? They were staffed for maybe a crowd of 20k and almost 5k more showed up. Why does it seem like we are never ready to handle a successful turnout.
  7. I picked Pac 12 too because our style of play will translate well to that league and the Cali schools and Buffs get a nice footprint and access to the North Texas recruiting scene. GMG
  8. I prefer how Steve Wynn operates. You only open a project once you know it will be successful. You only get one chance to make a first impression. Wynn has delayed his Wynn Macau project once all staff were cleared on Visa from Beijing. He has delayed his opening from November of last year until this month because you can't go back. This is embarrassing. The fact it is even this close to not qualifying is a ding on the entire UNT system. Get it in order Smastrek. GMG
  9. Kudos for the effort. I also think we need some countdown signs around campus highlighting the coming week's game with start time and watching options with away games. Plant the posts for the season and change out the game signs. GMG
  10. I agree that UNT has more upside in future realignment talks than SMU does. SMU has history on its side but when UNT gear starts showing up in the Sun Fresh Market near white rock next to the TCU, A&M and Texas gear combined with the wins that are coming you will see why UNT has more future upside. I like the fact that Wren has a seat at the big boy table. I like that both he and Seth are cerebral and look like thinkers and doers - make it happen guys. I like that Smastrek is so involved and will continue to be going forward. I think when Rice leaves, UTEP, UTSA and UNT make a pitch to the MWC about joining. If we need a fourth get Texas State and offer up access to major markets like DFW, San Antonio and Austin and you reunite Utep's strong bball program with UNM and UNLV. GMG
  11. Plus the MWC is where many of the big 12 leftovers might land like tcu Baylor and Kansas state. GMG
  12. I agree that playing SFA and SHSU would be a good idea. I would also add in ACU which I know is on our future schedule. We should have rotating schedules with SFA, SHSU, ACU and NMSU. Much like we seem to play Texas every few years or LSU. We should line up some drive in fans. GMG
  13. If you don't think it can happen then please stay clear of the AD office. This guy or gal needs to come in with the mindset Seth did when he recruited GH - it's a goldmine here. Add some political charisma and sell the fact that we are within earshot of the hottest market in Texas and one of the premier growing destinations in the world. Can do attitude a must. Get us into the MWC. We get there with Texas State (Austin), UTSA (San Antonio), UNT (DFW). We don't command those markets but recruiting from these areas to places like ABQ, Laramie, Vegas, SDSU and SJC would have some legs. GMG
  14. Why not recruit some cheerleaders to these alumni events at bar Louie Mexican sugar the happiest hour and hula hut! I won a sweet mug and pennant last night but two smu tickets would have been as delicious as that cake! Optimism reigns this time of year get more sporty where you have a collection of Green!!!!! gmg
  15. Congratulations and looks tasty. Glad we weren't playing utsa or Utep in that shot or there would be way too much mango. GMG
  16. Next Tuesday night is Mexican sugar in Plano. I hear they make awesome margaritas and have a five star level selection. I drive over from Dallas last night and plan on being in Plano. The more folks that show up to this the better and getting to know the leaders Is terrific. It's good fun. Let's break 75 peeps next week and wear green! gmg
  17. My Longhorn connected friend said prepare for the scramble of the Big 12 leftovers when Texas and OU break away. Expansion does not impact UT as they will be gone sooner than later and the rest of the league is going to be scrambling to get into one of the powers. There will be leftovers and those are the programs we need to be aligning with. I agree the MWC is more stable than AAC at this time. They have more history with each other and will weather this thing together. Doubt they are looking at Eastern programs for expansion at this time, but we should try. I think CUSA and Sun Belt eventually merge. GMG
  18. I feel optimistic. I see the good changes being made. I went to the Fort Worth Alumni Mixer today and met some really great folks excited to build interest in our University - all programs. There was a nice call out to make sure we get to Denton for the opener. I see a whole new generation of Mean Green leaders 20 years younger than me selling my University and feeling proud. We have great leadership and much opportunity ahead. Support support support. I also went by the Dallas Memorial today and took some pics with the officers doling out hugs, smiles and water. One of the Officers noticed my Mean Green shirt and said he couldn't wait to be cheering on a winning football team. I told him the only way to go was up and he smiled and said he was looking forward to it and loved that attitude. There are a lot of closet alum just waiting for us to break through. Time to jump on the Green Train! GMG
  19. Cannot state it loud enough that this guy or gal has had to do it successfully at another program - been in the top position and moved results from A to B. List the results needed at UNT and if he or she did it from the top capacity then they are a candidate. No more training on the job jokesters. And by the way Smastrek, find a way to move UNT, UTEP, UTSA and Rice to the Mountain West. If Rice doesn't want to come bring Texas State. Boise will draw, Air Force will draw, UNM will bring some fans. UTEP and UTSA will continue to bring their fans up and over too. GMG
  20. She's adorable and glad they put on a great show up in Denton. I have been doing the Fair Park show for many years so the tradition is something drawing me back otherwise I would be in Denton. We do have a great football venue and even better University! GMG
  21. Feeling the flag in Koh Samui, Thailand. Go Mean Green!!!!!
  22. I hope we make this meeting like a pep rally because summer screams energy and optimism. Make them realize our small but passionate fanbase when grown with the right AD choice is going to be a thing of beauty! GMG
  23. I vote Pearson and our coaches! But if SAT and UNT push each other and make the West stronger that is great for CUSA!!!!! GMG
  24. I can't believe RV was allowed to do this to us. I am sorry but bringing in NMSU or SFA or Idaho of the Big Sky would be better than these 2 games. Whether this was finalized before he was fired or after - I would have walked him to the door and taken away his keys before he could do any more damage. It's just stupid that we have to endure a horrible schedule year after year! When living in Hawaii I used to see Purdue and USC coming into Aloha Stadium. In Vegas I would watch Wisconsin and Washington come to play. Come on, we need to be doing things as good as San Antonio and UNLV NOW. GMG
