I would go MWC today because we can compete in that conference now. Basketball would grow playing the Lobos Running Rebel’s, Rams and Aztecs. Football would grow playing out in San Diego, up in Boise, at Air Force and over in Albuquerque. its definitely worth entertaining if those schools ever showed an interest in breaking back into Texas, which they haven’t. They are very MAC like in their regional conference thinking. GMG

I actually think NMSU vs UNT in Albuquerque could be interesting. They are solid this year and they would represent strong in ABQ. Of course the highest profile matchup is desired but if this became a reality I would not be crushed. GMG

There are no more students at the tailgate. The hall monitors took the fun off the hill. My niece from twu and her friends hang out with us because our tailgate is more fun and they wonder where the students are like years gone past. The gastapo sits down there in the lower lot excited to make their rounds through the evildoers and then parade them as an example of why you should avoid the little red cup. It’s weitd seeing the hill so manicures and empty on game day. GMG

You know it started as another average tailgate. Same great friends and same good foods. Too many of the same cold beers. Entering the stadium I had no idea we were going to watch history. In fact quite the opposite. We went from euphoria to this sux again I can’t stand utsa I want to hurt someone to unexpected ecstasy. That is not supposed to happen especially UNT. We were in shock it really happened at all. I was there for the Texas robbery in ‘88 and the tech fumble in the 90s. I also saw the win in tech over Oregon state and Baylor. Yet this is the new school I can’t stand and they own us. But I was simply drunk but sober enough to say “I can’t believe they are giving us the ball back!” I was thinking certainly they go for it on 4th down because had already broken our spirit. But they did the unthinkable and even when it landed on the 2 drunk and all I knew we had a chance and felt deep down we’re going to see magic. These things don’t happen to North Texas fans. That made it extra special. Lots of demons exorcised last night. They may still hold the wins edge but we are a team that grabbed their heart and threw it all the way back to south Texas. Rivalry fuel for sure. Go Mean Green!!!!!

We all have that game of shame where we disbelieve, act the fool, overconsume and the list goes on. It’s all good because the Mean Green will score again win again Create amazing memories again. I was surprised San Antonio didn’t travel as good as they did the first time they were in Apogee. Overall still an electric atmosphere. A couple of more takeaways: it is funny looking at the scoreboard and feeling frustrated We only have 22 points - where’s our usual 37 or 45! This is San Antonio’s first taste of adversity. The polish is dulling On that shiny new object. It will be interesting to see how they respond. Keep Rising! GMG

To me the biggest game I remember was in I believe 2001 when North Texas needed to go up to the Kibbie Dome and beat Idaho to go to their first bowl game this century. I had been watching the Mean Green since 1986 when we were 1AA and bowl games were just pipe dreams. I watched it at the Loophole I believe there in the square and they were giving out free beers with every touchdown. We drank through their bottles and they began serving pitchers with plastic cups. It was a fun realization of going to a bowl game and the New Orleans Bowl for the very first time! This one is big though. Up there with Rice, Baylor, SMU, Nevada in the rain - getting that monkey off our back. I would say UAB was also huge this year as the unknowns and mood of the base were awfully shaky just a few short weeks ago. Beat the Runners! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!
