We all love Grant. Think it was a typo. Tough name for GM and auto correct. I don’t know about the dormant alumni. They seem like lost causes to me. A buddy last weekend who never goes to a UNT game though a grad, was happy to send me pics from smu where he went to see his beloved Noles. No connection to FSU but he was there. He doesn’t disparage UNT but doesn’t care either. And the silly alums on sports radio apologize for speaking about UNT or giving an update about a G5 team. Spineless. Go after the young families moving into Denton. Make it the Mean Green Village Fairgrounds for 7 Saturdays a year with different themes. October fest, funnel cake fan fest, food drive game in November, summer sizzling barbecue bonanza for a September game. Have a Mariachi Mean Green crew like they do at Texas Rangers. The mariachis on mariachi Monday walk around the concourse in their Ranger red outfits smiling taking pictures with fans. Then they play a few sets on the big screen and boom you get a unique group of peeps you look forward to seeing. The coolest thing this season was all their close ups of their championship rings as they strung their instruments. Could be a nice link to our Denton Hispanic community. Do some fun things the community would come out to and get them into the stadium. Jared is doing some creative things this season. Like Oktoberfest and tickets and tee promotion. Sellout game push and more to come for November. Keep creating interesting unique and different because UNT definitely is creative unique and interesting. GMG

I get South Alabama weekly happening emails now and they added QR donation codes to help their conference mates. One for App State and one for Georgia Southern. Tough times for the Carolinas and Tennessee.

Gloria has also won on the optics, going to the commish of targeted programs letting them know of her intent. I think this is getting interesting because I do think some programs in AAC could get lured again. Us not one one of them. But Tulane and Memphis could be money whipped I would think. The Texas State decision surprises me. I would think getting into a league with another Texas player and having UNLV, New Mexico, Reno and the Miners swing their basketball teams through San Marcos would be tempting. Head scratcher. GMG

Sounds like Texas State is number 8 for the PAC and the Texans are number 8 for the MWC. I don’t know if that is a good brand move for the MWC. Need to keep UNLV and Air Force content. Even Sam Houston would be a stronger candidate. NMSU is too close to UTEP for a second add. Gonzaga to the PAC make sense but now they are looking at Saint Mary’s and Grand Canyon which is an awesome riding bball program. Utah Valley State would be another good basketball consideration. I know our Tech performance did damage, but we have to be one of the most entertaining teams to tune in and watch when we get going. More interesting than a few of those teams in the 15. It’s all good. Make those programs nervous to play us. GMG

How about good old fashioned bulletin board material. And when we start beating them and the game is in hand start chanting AAC. They can thank us later for keeping them from making a brutal mistake. Now I would be on the horn with San Antonio. Schedule a margarita zoom or invite their AD to La Gloria in the Pearl District for a little catch-up. Jared should look their AD in the eye and say, you know we play better together. Force the North Texas South Texas angle in the future. An athletic handshake if you will. If San Antonio doesn’t agree, stop at a bbq joint in San Marcos. You know the drill. Those 4 could have looked at this at a more macro level to power a strong deal. But that would be too much bipartisanship in this day and age. Plus maybe they just didn’t want to be like the PAC and attempt to destroy a conference on the way out. Or they realized it was ultimately fools gold out there. Just beat them this year and make the others realize there is hot potential in North Texas. GMG
