I like cal and dig their helmets and uniforms big time. However I think smu is the top 25 team, that is about to fall out of that mythical ranking in Fort Worth in a few days. Wishing cal the best. Watched them in Fort Worth against Air Force a few years back. Goff’s senior year i believe. They traveled well and it will be fun to have them in Denton. I think their defense can keep them percolating along but their offense is going to stump it’s toe one game or two. I don’t like them but I have to give the edge to Utah who also looks slightly stronger. Another weird year in the pac. GMG

I’m just less interested in football especially the pros. I still like college football but as it becomes more commercialized like the mini pros I get less interested and willing to pay to go see it. Not my Mean Green of course but on the random bye weekend, nahh. I also feel the far flung conferences feed the apathy too. gmg

That’s funny because I feel the Green fans in Ford have such a tense presence. I had heard about that but this was my first smu game in Dallas. The air was thick the trust fund babies were annoying and the whole vibe was off. I think the team places that same kind of pressure in themselves. Good news is that I think pony fan who goes to Denton walks in and out with those same feelings. GMG

When we welcome UTEP in 5 weeks we are either on our way to bowling or living through one of the most disappointing seasons in Mean Green history. I’ll be there either way. I think Marshall comes out of the east and la tech comes out of the west. I think both of those programs are toughened up by November to earn the game. I think we still go bowling but we might actually crave the New Orleans bowl or Frisco this December. Now get on track and beat down the birds. This whole sour taste could be enlivened by a juicy win over south Texas. GMG

Meanwhile we have 2 brutal teams to lineup against this months and our always expected grinder with UTSA. Does it feel worse to lose like Washington did last night or get curb stomped? Not sure but this beat down last night was unexpected and yet I am ready to turn the page. On to the next cheer. GMG

Y’all keep forgetting about our first conference win which is coming against roadkill on the 21st. We will most likely end September with a losing record though and will be scrapping to make a bowl game. Beat Cal. GMG

You can also park at mockingbird station under trinity hall where the pre party is taking place. Plenty of parking inside the station despite Saturday traffic. GMG

This offense struggles to change pace. We simply must not slow down until we get to 45. We struggle to change pace. I don’t think we face that issue the next few weeks or months. But in the event we do get it to 45 then freak out when you slow the pace. GMG

During the opening game it was pretty full - that was Houston many years ago. I bet you see a repeat this year. We just need more big games. Make it the Texas tech visitor section in a few years. Make it a BYU or Boise visitor section. Get those games with their thousands of supporters and it will populate. Or make it a supported section like on soccer. FC Dallas has the beer garden Lafc has the 3052 or something like that. Let the craziest supporters bring in flags and drums and smoke machines. Make it the place to be and get rowdy like a students alumni crazy zone. GMG

What I saw late was some of the acu talent and skill I expected to see. We blitzed them overwhelmed then early. They are going to be an interesting team later this season. They have some scheme skill speed and athleticism. They will grow from this like IWU did last year. GMG

I have to give a HUGE shout out to the Green Brigade. That entrance really amped up the crowd and then when acu gave us the Ball It was curtains for the purple. The first 15 minutes including pregame was breathtaking. Couldn’t even run out to grab a beer. The GB sounded terrific. The look was a 1000x better and I loved the more upbeat tunes. They played the entire game and I heard new sounds. Overall they put on a show and there was strong coordination between the team, band and fans to creat that memorable opening. I have a reason to get into the stadium 30 minutes earlier. The GB is realizing it’s showmanship potential and more importantly it’s connection to the average fan is outstanding. They were so silly to do a white out when that is one of our primary colors. As mentioned everyone needs to wear a lot of green because the overview shot is going to have it be Apogee South Stadium. Had they done a red out it would look like Christmas 3 months early. A blue out would have looked like a giant throwback Dirk jersey from above. So now it will just look right and sound right when we get the North Texas chant rocking! GMG

I don’t miss the army series. Loved West Point trip but glad we’re onto different things. Bring on Baylor Oklahoma state Kansas state. GMG
