UNT Basket Ball Watch Party THIS FRIDAY
NM Green replied to Dentondame82's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Bring it Mean Green Nation!!! It’s almost game day so wherever your watch party is have fun and let’s celebrate these fantastic young men. First time to the Winery and excited to cheer with fellow alums friends and fans! GMG -
I was watching from City Works patio and there were some anti UNT fans discreetly cheering on the Toppers. They were average watchers picking a team, but then I think UNT intrigued them! I didn’t think we were 100 percent going to lose because wku didn’t close us out. They kept missing opportunities to crush us and we got scrappy. After the game I realized I almost watched the wku game from last year in the Super Pit. We scrapped scraped got some fortunate bounces and the strong squad got spooked. Like some magical intervention somethings kept us in the game. I saw that game in person. I saw this years game on the big screen. They both were fun as heck because that doesn’t always happen to UNT. Love our teams that have learned how to make it happen. Create chaos and give it your best shot. I’ll take the good feeling. GMG

Yes any bar would be great! I took the advice of one poster on Saturday and watched the Mean Green at city works on the patio, watching it on the Star big screen. It was a blast and had the patio been packed with Green it would have been amazing! Nevertheless we had fun followed by green beers at Ringos Pub. If we ever make the Frisco Bowl that scene is going to be fun for some pre and post parties. GMG

I think there were a couple of basketball references in this list. Which means we have to add that Win over Western Kentucky in Frisco to this proud trip down memory lane. Last years win over Western in the Super Pit and last nights awesomeness had some similar feelings in retrospect. This entire run of 4 wins over many of the beasts in our league was epic. Still on a St. Patty’s Day Mean Green beer high from last night. Great night! GMG

With 100% capacity being allowed in Arlington for the Cowboys and Rangers, hopefully we get a chance to create a rocking home field advantage in the fall! GMG

It would be cool if the tourney games were on the football field screen. Or if East Side had it on the tv. Yell like hell MG Nation! GMG

Despite the tough schedule this is a turnaround year. Seth saves his job and figures out how to create some wow in Denton again. GMG

I think Wren should eye the cusa commissioner’s post. He actually likes to talk up his school imagine how passionate he could talk about cusa - barely heard Judy speak before. but I’ll hope we keep him around Denton for a good while. I like some of the good all around accomplishments he has made for good ole UNT. GMG

Imagine having a low bar of winning 4 bowl games minimum and winning more than half your games. You get brownie points if you beat Oklahoma and win a bigger bowl than the Alamo or Texas Bowl. With those standards as a low bar good luck Steve. Texas thinks you can buy a culture. So they go buy 2nd in command at Alabama and plan on that being Tuscaloosa south. Meanwhile in college station Jimbo has them playing with the elites. Building it with strength and endurance. To be determined if they can beat master saben. But Texas’ hire of sarkissian seams shortsighted at best. We bag on litrell but he has built a culture of expectation in Denton and that is something I appreciate. GMG

Those were some fun players and defenses to watch. Good find. GMG

Venables might come available.😃 GMG

Man, both coaches comments postgame were completely underwhelming. The damage control both programs are going to have to do is sobering. 1st thought: why is Mississippi State fighting with Tulsa? 2nd thought: street fighting warrior mentality took over Concluding thought: that would have been a scary place to be Go College 🏈

While traveling to New York, riding the party barge up the Hudson to West Point and seeing an unexpected win was a Mean Green highlight of my life, I don’t miss playing the Cadets. Attended the myrtle bowl with a WVU fan and I can sense his frustration through my texts. Easily one of the most stressful teams to play in college football. I am glad Tennessee vacated this spot for Army to slide in. Their year deserved a bowl game and possible win in about 7 minutes. GMG

At least we will have a top 25 coming to apogee. That will be a first in a long time. I don’t recall many if any over my decades of follow. GMG

*Updated* Kevin Sumlin: Deal (Steal) of the Century
NM Green replied to Pseudo Nym's topic in Mean Green Football
I’d prefer Scott Frost or Tom Herman when they lose their respective jobs. The timing on their exits and Seth’s might just coincide perfectly. Until then I wish Seth and the team success. I still think there is hope for a recovery. But if we struggle in 21 it’s over for SL and Scott and Tom might just be available. GMG -

Man I love Buffalo’s defense. Beautiful to watch them get aggressive and intimidate at key moments. GMG

The SEC West now has the 2 upstarts in Harsin and Kiffen, 2 seasoned in Jimbo and Saban and the Leach factor. Definitely one of the most interesting divisions in football. GMG

Just got back from Myrtle and I am glad I made the trip. After missing the NM Bowl, and a rough year, I was determined to follow our team to the finish line. Bowls are different. The pressure is off and you just get to enjoy the experience. No stress to get bowl eligible, to preserve a top 25 ranking...just don’t get curb stomped on national tv. Oops. While the fans are chill Seth should feel the pressure. Our 2-6 record this century is no bueno. Back to App State. They travel well. Boone is only 6 hours from Teal Nation and their fans were fun and passionate. I became an unofficial Scrappy mascot in the tailgate lot as many wanted to take a picture with a Mean Green fan. I took photos with Appy and Coastal fans, so it was all good and all social. ASU Jeff mentioned that only 2,500 could get tickets for their home games, so he traveled to watch the Mountaineers on the road. We were so fortunate in Denton to be able to see so much football at home and an extra game to boot! I traveled solo but had to buy 2 tickets for entry. Met a local Coastal fan in the tailgate lot still buzzing from their program lifting win over BYU. He didn’t have a ticket so guess who got free beer all afternoon. Even converted him from teal to Mean Green for a few hours. I learned a lot about the new SBC. It’s so different now. Appy State fans are spoiled and admit it openly having enjoyed sustained bowl and winning success over the past decade. I don’t think they respect Coastal and can’t stand their teal field. I feel they sting from a loss to Coastal just a few weeks ago, and they don’t seem pleased with their newfound success. I equate it to our annoyance and dislike of that bird to the south. I met another Coastal fan on the boardwalk who dj’s at a local bar and he showed me a video clip from the moment BYU fell a yard short. Coastal fans went wild and I am now extra eager to watch the upcoming Cure Bowl between Coastal and Liberty. Should be a solid battle. Those four programs: Appy State, Coastal Carolina, Louisiana and Arkansas State don’t complain that they are in the SBC. They just support their team, travel well and seize opportunities to make a national splash. Any of these programs could be solid replacements if we have dropouts or departures in CUSA. Fun time. Bought the cap. Ready to reload for next year. GMG

Of course we’ll probably draw Western and Marshall next year so buckle up. GMG

The playoff scene at a G5 level this year would be super interesting. Also give independents an opportunity to play up or play at the G5 level. Let the New Year’s Day 6 take Cincy, that still leaves San Jose State, UAB, Louisiana, Liberty, Coastal Carolina, Army and possibly BYU an opportunity to win a trophy! Other suitors for the party this year include Tulsa, Marshall, Appy State, Boise State and Ball State or Buffalo. Those fans would travel like they do to a bowl game. Or work it into a bowl game format. Soccer has multiple routes to win trophies and that helps build and develop a program. It also give MORE fans an opportunity to celebrate good times good wins. Beat Appy State GMG
