  1. Okay I am impressed with the Furman running game so darn much that I can't turn it to texas vs duke. The 1AA playoffs are vastly underrated. That stadium setting is awesome too. Some of the nicest Saturday settings were spent in tiny old New Mexico Highlands stadium in Las Vegas, NM. Those days when I couldn't make it back to Denton or wherever we were playing were filled with college football in a non-traditional setting. GMG
  2. Yeah, I about to shout out, "get a room already!" Actually - great season TSU. Now get them on our schedule soon and bring in 25,000 strong! GMG
  3. TSU - they would bring a ton of fans and a serious rivalry could develop with the high flying bobcats. Imagine how nice it would be to separate ourselves and throw them back in their place. I bet you we would have 20,000 show up for that game and if it is early 25,000. Next up SHSU - still a good crowd. When in doubt - good ole Abilene Christian. I remember them always bringing a good crowd in our 1AA days and we always seem to win too! We are not ready to be thumped by UTEP or UH right now. We are already going to take our lumps against SMU and Lost Tech next season. Don't even get me going on that powerhouse Tulsa. Unbelievable how low my expectations have fallen. GMG
  4. Good for Marshall. I hope they cream the Scots. The Scots are a lot like SMU in that they somehow get a lot of breaks! Its amazing! My Bishop Lynch Friars use to get some "texas like" calls when playing buy their rules$. Lynch going to Scot Stadium is about as smart as the Mean Green going to Austin - oh wait - we continue to do that anyway. Go Mavs! GMG
  5. I hope we can match this year's win total, but after what I saw I think we were lucky to have gotten 2 under our belt. I will hope for 3 because that means we are headed back in the right direction. GMG
  6. People who wish us to 1AA have never lived through 1AA. Be careful what you ask for. GMG
  7. I can't believe we are going into our 9th year with Dickey. That just seems crazy long! I can't believe we have endured each other for 8 complete years already. I love stability and believe our success in the previous years was due in part to our stability at the leadership position. However, many programs that hold on to a coach for 8 years have a warm and fuzzy relationship between the HC and fanbase. I have never seen that in Denton. Even during Dickey's sunny days I don't think the fanbase ever put him up on a pedastal and proclaimed him our saviour! There were a lot of fans during the 4 year run that still disliked Dickey mightily. It's a tense filled relationship at best which is weird after 9 years. Other long time coaches seem to have garnered some love and patience from the masses to endure a dreadfull fall from grace like we had this year. When we look back in 10 or 20 years I believe we will look at the Dickey era and regime as awesome and horrific all in the same sentence. The weirder part would be to still be in the Dickey regime 10 years from now. After Monroe in 2001 I don't put anything in the "never" category. Right the ship Dickey and try to make some friends along the way! GMG
  8. Plumm, You were at the Arizona in the 70's and my first trip to the sunken tomb was 2003. To this day the oil droplets still rise to the surface. It is definitely one of the most powerful and moving places in our country. Its other rival Ground Zero. I would also love to see the Memorial in OKC one day. GMG
  9. Don't touch Rick N. with a ten foot pole - your program will land on probation at some point. Barnett - don't care for him, but a change of scenery can do wonders for a coach and program - see UTEP. Barnett needs a year to chill and recollect the thoughts - we don't go back to the NO Bowl next year he is in. He made stupid comments but was not involved in the illegal stuff - We are hiring a football coach to win games, not to stand next to a priest on the sideline - no altar boy needed. GMG
  10. 76 degrees and sunny at Lihue airport Kauai. Big dangerous swell coming from the North - expecting 25 foot faces on the North Shore by Thursday. sorry guys, couldn't resist. Actually miss those occassional wild storms in front of big fireplace. Stay safe. GMG
  11. Please do not get the two programs mixed up. Where do we live? What is king? You cannot compare what happens at Fouts with what happens in the Super Pit. When I lived in NM the Lobos football team was starting to gel under Rocky Long; however, the bball team was in shambles after Bliss left. A talk show host use to remind folks out there what drove the bus at UNM. In Lobo Country it is all about the Hoops. Football is something to root for and attend during the "offseason." Football is the appetizer to the main course - 17,000 plus in The Pit in the winter. Now times in NM may have changed with a series of bowl trips until this year, but the expectations for basketball should be and always will be higher in ABQ. Fast forward Denton. Hoops are our dessert after a trip to New Orleans. I love watching the Mean Green on the internet but football is what I save money up for to make the haul across the pond. Attitude is everything. JJ's attitude toward OOC games is not much different than Dickey's in results; however, in words, mentality and influence on the team the attitudes are worlds apart. Dickey could have that support and earn more patience with a twist of his words and actions. Just my humble opinion from having lived in Hoops country and growning up in Texas. GMG
  12. I loved watching the Hawaii Wahine get sent to Austin for the volleyball regional to face Texas State and Texas. It was a lovely sight to watch the Bows crush the bobcats and rally to beat the lady horns. Next up Missouri at Penn State. I know, woman's volleyball blah blah blah. However, those young women bring out 8,500 to the Stan Sheriff center on the campus of Hawaii and make for some of the best games on the islands. Next up the guys. I like their season even more because they don't conflict with football season. Go Hawaii Wahine - all the way to San Antonio (Final Four)! GMG
  13. Play them in football in Denton - good crowd - Fouts with crowds is a blast. Do not play them away until they are D1A. They might raise our SOS since we are probably ranked well below their football program at this point. Call them up Rick! GMG
  14. In a way it would have been sweet justice for Monroe to go bowling. That would have been unbelievable for La Tech after the season they had. Sitting at home watching the unpopular sister all of a sudden get some overdue attention and national props - the dawgs would have been deeply disturbed. Oh well, Arkie State go kick some cusa butt! GMG
  15. I was thinking the same thing. Where is Kragthorpe going next? He is a darn good coach and Tulsa is freaking good. Tulsa and Manhattan can't be that far apart and he could continue his recruiting in that part of the world and the Metroplex of course. GMG
  16. A down year in Denton is 5 wins - like it was at TCU for just 1 year. This far down deserves an axing. You could bring in a chimp next year and we could win 2 games. Feel it. Move through it. Emerge from it. GMG
  17. I am happy Arkie State fan. He is one of the most loyal fans in college football and I was embarrassed by the grenade celebration as a UNT fan. I am glad Noce remembered that and if it helped fuel that dude and others - more power to them. No one should ever be shown up like that. We earned this day. Way to go Mean Green. Feel it. Move through it. Emerge from it. GMG
  18. One number: Over 2,300 miles from the campus of Hawaii to California. Yep, just to California. Tell me that makes any sense at all, for our basketball teams, volleyball team, soccer team. silly thought GMG
  19. My first year since '86 I didn't watch the Mean Green in person. Okay, I take the blame - Dickey will love me. gmg
  20. Brothers, we are not the best of the worst anymore. We are very close to the worst of the worst and I see a dogfight in the coming years for another bowl berth. That is why you ride the wave as long as you can and I hope everyone enjoyed New Orleans as much as I did. We will be lucky to go bowling again this decade. Seize the moment because this day is not a dress rehearsal! Take November 25th! GMG
  21. The sad thing is the "hope" factor. As a Mean Green fan I have 000000000000000000000000 X 000000000000000000 hope of going into an OCC and coming out with a win. This is so freaking strange, considering I never had that feeling when we were D1AA. I had my concerns that we could win in the 1AA playoffs, but NEVER in an OCC game. In fact, I looked forward to them and thougth "wow! Our shot at the big boys! Give'em he*ll" Today I can't see us beating SMU, La Tech or Tulsa next year. This isn't just because of our current state. It is because of our approach and fear factor that now controls our players, coaching staff and a large part of the fanbase. Its really dark in Denton right now, and I am not convinced this leadership can get us to the light. gmg
  22. uh oh dawn the riot gear next week Dickey sounded like Meager is going back in next week! Also, what is this "knowing the circumstances we are under." What the he*ll is he talking about? Play someone with some swagger - play Phillips next week! GMG
  23. Awesome pics. This is the first year since 1986 that I miss a Mean Green game in person. I went home for the LSU opener and we all know what happened to that game. So for those of you who are sick of watching the Mean Green and will only watch the ut's of the world from here on out - have fun. If I could have driven over water to see MY team in person I would not have missed it for the world. I am relinquished to watching all of those other "competitive games" and can only listen to MY team from here on out. Cherish what few precious Saturday's of Mean Green football you get. Aloha, GMG
  24. This was my first observation of the Mean Green this season on TV against ULL (in Denton). My continuing observation is that we have the ugliest helmet since I started following NTSU in 1986. The "North Texas" style and font bug me, especially the looping R or whatever it is. The font is plain and boring. Observation number 2: How many shades of green are roaming the Mean Green sidelines this year? The dance team was in a really bright green, J-Mo had on a pretty bright green, the football team's green was a different shade, the cheerleaders seemed to have a different shade, and the fans were a freaking box of green shaded crayolas. Has this been a weird year or what! This branding changing color transitional year looks like a debacle from the outside eye. Now get some revenge - Kelly Green style this weekend! GMG
  25. Next year we have to make the promotions "younger." There is plenty of time to do that for the 2006 season, but giving away Ipods, plasma tv's, yearly food credits...Future alums need to tell us what makes them tick and then load up on promotions of that nature - beginning December 1, 2005. GMG
