  1. That may have been the most drama filled game I have watched since the Miracle in the Desert! Way to go USC! GMG
  2. Southern Mustang, You are a class Mustang Fan. Keep the faith because its fun at the end of the tunnel. Damn, we are 2-1 in OUR SBC! I am happy! Lock up La Tech! GMG
  3. My question - after several games are we seeing improvement in the QB position? If so then lets ride it and maybe win one more game. If not, cut the strings and put in someone who will get better and better. Hawaii is breaking in a brand spanking new QB named Colt Brennan. Hawaii had 1 win going into the game against NMSU last night. Colt has gotten better and better each week and threw for 7, yes 7 touchdowns last night in a spanking of the Southern Aggies. That is what is concerning me from a distance is that I am not sure this QB is growing. An intuitive coach needs to step in and speak the truth or cut the strings. I just found out we won. I am psyched because even after all of this ugliness we are still in the race! GMG
  4. I just don't know where more than 10 points comes from. I think our defense gets us some, but we need to score to win. You throw in the fact it is a road game and I am "hoping" for a good outcome, but not betting on it. Underpromise/overdeliver and have a great weekend! GMG
  5. That is awesome! Great job ladies! GMG
  6. You know it is articles like these that give me hope about our league. Just look at FAU and Troy. The potential and energy these 2 programs bring to the SBC give me even more optimism about the future. Right now the SBC is the "dog" league in college football; however, it burns me to hear the negativity when our sister programs are not sitting on their duffs waiting for CUSA to come calling. I am one SBC fan who appreciates that they are not sitting around, and neither is North Texas. Our attendance to date is a prime example of how we are building all the pieces separately and eventually are going to string them together to make that long awaited splash. Can you imagine our facilities, conference titles, NFL drafted players and OCC wins occurring all at once! That could be the Marshall or Fresno State type splash we are looking for. We can't undo the losses but we can move forward. I look at the WAC which has teams from all over the West spattered across the bottom ten. Idaho still doesn't have a plan for a new stadium. NMSU's honeymoon is already just about over. Hawaii's new stellar DEFENSE with Glanville at the helm has given up about 150 points in just a few games. The power that is Boise almost got beat by the power that is Portland State. Folks at this rate the SBC is not that far behind the WAC. As a league if we keep building towards the future we will be just fine right here. Our league is tougher than it was even one year ago, and if we send the right team to the Bowl we just might get good national pub. Grow a 2nd bowl and watch the magic occur. Its hard work and we are in a dog fight this season. However through each challenge comes growth. We will emerge stronger and better from this early season gloom. Okay I'll put my pom poms down now. Keep the Mean Green spirit burning. GMG
  7. The Monday after OU got beat by TCU I was on a plane heading back West. One young guy a few rows ahead of me dawned this obnoxious but eye catching Oklahoma shirt. It was like an Aloha shirt but full of OU, Boomer Sooner, Oklahoma...wording. It was Crimson and Cream and ugly, but I remember thinking that I am glad OU has fans like that. Those fans who will wear their team shirts and colors proudly even after the most humiliating of losses. I will be wearing my North Texas gear to the NMSU vs Hawaii game this weekend regardless of the outcome on the East Coast. GMG
  8. The Alma Mater is not that long and I too wish the team would stay after EVERY game. This has been going on for years now; however, we see it more right now because there are so few good things to see and talk about. At the end of the day go out and whip the boys in Florida. We need a win around here in a BAD way! GMG
  9. I was in NY over the weekend and wore the one remaining piece of cold weather clothing I own - my 2003 New Orleans Bowl pull over sweater/jacket. It caught a lot of eyes and I was even asked if I was from New Orleans. Having been to the Big Easy over 15 times in the past 6 years I almost feel like it is a second home. It will be strange not heading there this December, but our guys weren't going to be playing a game there anyway. Enjoy the memories! The return of UNTopia in 2006! GMG
  10. Okay, it is way too easy to see the glass as half full when you have been away from this board for a week. But here is my take: 1. Be happy that we had this amazing run that only a few schools have EVER experienced. Winning over 20 conference games in a row IS an accomplishment no matter where you play! We could not even do that back in our 1AA days much less playing 1A competition. Last I looked all those programs we thumped and squeaked by were categorized as 1A so that does go down in the record books. 2. We need a banner at Fouts and Eagle Point touting this accomplishment. I believe it is in Miami that I saw a similar banner that read "xx conference wins in a row" with the dates down below. Green fans we will always be able to look back at these past 4 years and remember just how much dang fun we had! 3. The team needs us more than ever now. Those of you watching this team grow, hopefully you are seeing progress and a move in the right direction. I am hoping our QB skills are developing. I hope our running game is picking up speed. You all are better experts than me from a distance. 4. If we can shake this funk and get a darn win we just might catch a groove. We have a hell of a task this weekend in Ruston. I don't like our timing of finally getting La Tech, but you have to run with the cards you are dealt. If we can get 5 more wins we just might land ourselves in a game over the holidays. I don't see all the bowl game slots being filled again this year. We travel well and as long as 6 wins is still a possibility why not support this team and hope for a bowl! a. La Tech - probably not going to win but at least they are not Southern LA - L b. LSU - unfortunately they are Southern LA - L c. Lafayette - I think we win big here! Much like the Cowboys last weekend several months of frustration are thrust upon the Cajuns - W d. FIU & FAU - Two tough road trips - we probably go 1-1 but IF we go 2-0 - W W e. LAMO - They may go to the New Orleans Bowl this year but we still get them - W f. Arkie State - Tough one but by this time of year we smell of momentum - W That gives us 6 wins just beating the rest of the Belt. Has this team shown us they have a snowballs chance in you know where that this is possible (NO)? But we have been here before and we have seen the GREEN turn around seasons before. Whether we win another 2, 3, or 6 games lets stay behind this team. At least you get to cheer on these guys in person. ALOHA! Light up La Tech! GMG
  11. The Texas' of the world use to bother me and then I realized just how lucky I am to be a fan of ALL of college football. Sitting in Roundtable Pizza over the weekend watching Boise and an improved Hawaii team made me appreciate the kind of college football fan I am: 1. I woke up at 2:00am and couldn't go back to sleep I was so geeked at a full day of the pigskin - happens every Saturday. 2. Went to the gym and on a run - passed all the drunks, hookers and crazies in Waikiki - they call me names because I am running at 2:30am ~ whatever. 3. I turn on Gameday live from Sun Devil Stadium at 4:30am. 4. I watch football from morning to afternoon before passing out right before the Hawaii game for a nap. 5. I watch a really tough explosive battle reminescent of the old WAC shootout days. Hawaii almost hands us over the "Most Conference Wins In A Row" record. 6. I listen to these tourists from bama - obnoxious and definitely getting overserved as they watch and complain about the game because its not like Tuscaloosa. That is when I am just so happy to be able to enjoy ALL levels of the great game of college football. All this dude could do was biatch about how empty Aloha Stadium was and the play of the teams...He even asked another loud fan if Boise was in the WAC. Yes, the almost always ranked Broncos of the past few years with a huge winning streak until this year, perennial bowl winner until last year does play D1A football. I can appreciate that and I firmly believe being a diehard fan of the Mean Green has kept me humble and allowed me to appreciate play at all levels. Heck I love watching the D1AA playoffs and championship! A lot of big time program fans can't even tell you who is in which conference ~ sad to me - they could care less. I appreciate my knowledge of the great game. Now trounce that little trojan! GMG
  12. Break Troy's spirit early and they are a different team. Let them hang around and that is what could be scarey. Boise bounced back in conference this week with a win at Hawaii - the Beast of the WAC. We need to do the same and just take care of our Sun Belt business. I want a bowl game this year! Trounce Troy! GMG
  13. BBA - Marketing MBA - Management Job - Director of Training hotels & resorts TROUNCE Troy!
  14. The major rain game I remember was against Nevada, but I thought it was later. GMG
  15. North Texas 2 Kansas State 63 GMG
  16. Just taking a mental break from the doom and gloom of this Mean Green week. Listening to the radio shows here in Hawaii is so reminescent of our days with ID, USU and NMSU in our league. Idaho is actually favored over mighty Hawaii this week in the Kibbie Dome. I am so proud that we never lost to them during their SBC days. What an accomplishment for our program. Now I assume ID is favored because Hawaii didn't win a road game last year, yet still went on to win the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl. One thing about a smaller market team is that you get to hear details about the opponent leading up to the game. I wish Dallas radio would focus on the locals opponents more. I find it interesting, but I know I was in the Mean Green minority in the Big D. The other thing that makes me grin is the fact that the sportscasters keep saying that the Warriors have never played in a Dome. I am not sure they realize that this "Dome" is more like a barn. I know we have Fouts, but at least it feels like a real football stadium. Those Warriors and fans are going to walk off that bus and into that place and look as shocked as we did when we were first being introduced to the Vandals. I wish the Bows and Vandals well, but geez I am glad we don't have to go back up there. Like others on this board I do get tired of the dump everyone takes on the SBC. Until we change that perception it is going to happen on a regular basis. But the more disturbing part is the praise ID now gets as a result of them joining the WAC. In last week's game against WA they were talking about Idaho's amazing potential and surge in desireability as a result of them being out of the SBC and into the WAC. How the coach who came over from USC would not even have considered the move unless ID got accepted into the WAC. Meanwhile we work and work and work and stay put. Oh well, nothing in Mean Green land has ever been easy and all this does is make us work even harder for all that we have and all we will accomplish in the future! Kick the Cats! GMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. Watching Cobbs on Fox last night made me realize that it appears from the comments and interviews that this loss shook that team to the core. It is like they didn't even see the lights of that Amtrack coming through the tunnel. RV has to be shaken and probably went a bit more gray on Saturday. I hate the fact that we blew such an opportunity, but am glad to finally see some emotion from our leadership. For that reason alone I am confident we will play better this weekend. Our whole season is off to a bizarre start with the postponed game, to an early conference game, which was already going to be weird, to a shocking win on the road and a devastating, I mean devastating loss in our very own Fouts Field. Just crazy year and it is still Summertime! Time to pull out all the stops and salvage this season. The crazy thing is that if we beat Troy in front of 10,000 on Tuesday the 4th, we will be in the driver's seat. We can still redeem ourselves against La Tech and against CUSA in the Bowl game. After what we have seen so far we can still get there which is shocking in and of itself! Remember when UT lost to UCLA in a disastrous manner down in Austin last century. That loss shook every orange blood to the core. Yet they still came back and rooted their horns on the rest of the season. That is what we have to do in Denton. I know, apples and orangebloods, but the feeling is the same. We must rally and support this team. Fill up Fouts on the 4th! GMG
  18. I kept thinking about this thread as I listened through the entire game. What an omen. Compete at KSU! GMG
  19. Before the season started I predicted a 2-0 lead followed by a hideous blowout - but that was to LSU. Scary how close and yet how far I was all in one intuition. Compete @ KSU! GMG
  20. That would make my day. I get like 4 Fox stations and watching KSU vs Marshall, Boise St. vs Oregon and other countless games I was thinking they might pick up a good matchup between NT and KSU. We need to win this weekend to help make this a reality! Toss Tulsa GMG
  21. Gosh, just when I was starting to feel happy! Just kidding Harry! I hope you and the family are great. The TAMU play was terrible. The Texas play in our endzone was tough. The Texas Tech fumble in front of our eyes was tough. Neither had those hellacious conference title ramifications, but I would love to have even more Big 12 notches in our belt. I would say Texas early run from scrimmage was devastating last year. I also think that CSU pass down the field taking the wind out of us early in 2001 was not fun. Now back to the fun stuff! MIRACLE IN THE DESERT THE BEST PLAY OF ALL TIME! GMG
  22. I keep thinking that we may get more games picked up. Is that possible? My ESPN Gameplan only published through the first 2 weekends. Might we get more games on that plan? Does Fox wait until closer to the date to decide who will be on? For example, could Fox pick up NT vs KSU or NT vs LSU? GMG
  23. Artsy creative or fiercely conservative - we must market to each group on an individual basis. It is not THEIR job to support athletics. It is OUR job to get them interested. If that means some local eclectic bands and a Earth fair like atmosphere on one part of the MG Village, then lets do it! We can set up the church revival tent on the opposite end of MG Village and then all head into the stadium as one right before kickoff. At the end of the day we can all agree on one color, right? GMG
  24. I am feeling okay about this game. I am not sure what I was smoking thinking we would score 30 plus in game one. So I will load up again and say: Tulsa 21 North Texas 40 GMG
  25. The silver lining on living in Hawaii (besides the obvious), is the fact that ESPN Gameplan is the bomb. I love getting up at 4:30am and not leaving my studio until 8:00pm. I would give it all up to be at all Mean Green home and away games in a heartbeat, but its at least bearable with so much darn football to choose from. Marshall - silly silly last second throw. What were they thinking! Glad KSU won. Marshall's stadium is sweet and I can't help but think our future surroundings will look and sound the same. Idaho, NMSU, USU - still follow our former roomates. Idaho looks improved and will actually compete in the WAC. They will win some games before the year is over. USU is no match for the Utes that HAVE taken the next step and even left BYU behind. NMSU - not sure I saw a much different team even with all the Mumme hype. They will get better, but they seemed flat - maybe UTEP gave them a stinging punch. New Mexico - nice win in Mizzou! Another big win for the MWC. TCU - wish I could have seen this game. Was the stadium really full of purple, and were the Froggies pulling their hair out? ISU - Could this really be the power of the Big 12 North! CU is better defensively this year, but they are going to take some knocks in Miami and around the Big 12. Texas is for real. Young is the best thing since sliced bread - all in all I can't even discount the Horns. Forever I have thought they were overrated and untested and all they do is win. I still don't like Mack (whiner). However, this team will make a solid run for SoCal if they can beat OU (Big if - it is in the head (see MTSU)). BIGTIME LSU fan tonight. I usually root for ASU, but not on a night like tonight. Watching the fans in Tiger Stadium root like heck after that tremendous game made the eyes water up. God Bless the great state of Louisiana and its wonderful people. GMG
