I loved watching the Hawaii Wahine get sent to Austin for the volleyball regional to face Texas State and Texas. It was a lovely sight to watch the Bows crush the bobcats and rally to beat the lady horns. Next up Missouri at Penn State. I know, woman's volleyball blah blah blah. However, those young women bring out 8,500 to the Stan Sheriff center on the campus of Hawaii and make for some of the best games on the islands. Next up the guys. I like their season even more because they don't conflict with football season. Go Hawaii Wahine - all the way to San Antonio (Final Four)! GMG

Play them in football in Denton - good crowd - Fouts with crowds is a blast. Do not play them away until they are D1A. They might raise our SOS since we are probably ranked well below their football program at this point. Call them up Rick! GMG

In a way it would have been sweet justice for Monroe to go bowling. That would have been unbelievable for La Tech after the season they had. Sitting at home watching the unpopular sister all of a sudden get some overdue attention and national props - the dawgs would have been deeply disturbed. Oh well, Arkie State go kick some cusa butt! GMG

I was thinking the same thing. Where is Kragthorpe going next? He is a darn good coach and Tulsa is freaking good. Tulsa and Manhattan can't be that far apart and he could continue his recruiting in that part of the world and the Metroplex of course. GMG

Dickey owes us an apology and an explaination
NM Green replied to Mean Green Sig's topic in Mean Green Football
A down year in Denton is 5 wins - like it was at TCU for just 1 year. This far down deserves an axing. You could bring in a chimp next year and we could win 2 games. Feel it. Move through it. Emerge from it. GMG -
I am happy Arkie State fan. He is one of the most loyal fans in college football and I was embarrassed by the grenade celebration as a UNT fan. I am glad Noce remembered that and if it helped fuel that dude and others - more power to them. No one should ever be shown up like that. We earned this day. Way to go Mean Green. Feel it. Move through it. Emerge from it. GMG

One number: Over 2,300 miles from the campus of Hawaii to California. Yep, just to California. Tell me that makes any sense at all, for our basketball teams, volleyball team, soccer team. silly thought GMG

My first year since '86 I didn't watch the Mean Green in person. Okay, I take the blame - Dickey will love me. gmg

Brothers, we are not the best of the worst anymore. We are very close to the worst of the worst and I see a dogfight in the coming years for another bowl berth. That is why you ride the wave as long as you can and I hope everyone enjoyed New Orleans as much as I did. We will be lucky to go bowling again this decade. Seize the moment because this day is not a dress rehearsal! Take November 25th! GMG

Allen Ward fires Murray State football coach
NM Green replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
The sad thing is the "hope" factor. As a Mean Green fan I have 000000000000000000000000 X 000000000000000000 hope of going into an OCC and coming out with a win. This is so freaking strange, considering I never had that feeling when we were D1AA. I had my concerns that we could win in the 1AA playoffs, but NEVER in an OCC game. In fact, I looked forward to them and thougth "wow! Our shot at the big boys! Give'em he*ll" Today I can't see us beating SMU, La Tech or Tulsa next year. This isn't just because of our current state. It is because of our approach and fear factor that now controls our players, coaching staff and a large part of the fanbase. Its really dark in Denton right now, and I am not convinced this leadership can get us to the light. gmg -
uh oh dawn the riot gear next week Dickey sounded like Meager is going back in next week! Also, what is this "knowing the circumstances we are under." What the he*ll is he talking about? Play someone with some swagger - play Phillips next week! GMG

A look back to the beginning of this year
NM Green replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Awesome pics. This is the first year since 1986 that I miss a Mean Green game in person. I went home for the LSU opener and we all know what happened to that game. So for those of you who are sick of watching the Mean Green and will only watch the ut's of the world from here on out - have fun. If I could have driven over water to see MY team in person I would not have missed it for the world. I am relinquished to watching all of those other "competitive games" and can only listen to MY team from here on out. Cherish what few precious Saturday's of Mean Green football you get. Aloha, GMG -
This was my first observation of the Mean Green this season on TV against ULL (in Denton). My continuing observation is that we have the ugliest helmet since I started following NTSU in 1986. The "North Texas" style and font bug me, especially the looping R or whatever it is. The font is plain and boring. Observation number 2: How many shades of green are roaming the Mean Green sidelines this year? The dance team was in a really bright green, J-Mo had on a pretty bright green, the football team's green was a different shade, the cheerleaders seemed to have a different shade, and the fans were a freaking box of green shaded crayolas. Has this been a weird year or what! This branding changing color transitional year looks like a debacle from the outside eye. Now get some revenge - Kelly Green style this weekend! GMG

Next year we have to make the promotions "younger." There is plenty of time to do that for the 2006 season, but giving away Ipods, plasma tv's, yearly food credits...Future alums need to tell us what makes them tick and then load up on promotions of that nature - beginning December 1, 2005. GMG

So if the SunBelt has no 6 game winners...
NM Green replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
Just please get a Belt team in there. The last thing we need is for the committee to look North at LA Tech who just might be sitting at home with 6 wins. We need a SBC rep to rise up from these ashes and salvage what has been a VERY disappointing season. GMG -
The grass is not always greener. WE HAVE THE POWER TO MAKE NT GREAT - ANYWHERE Last week nationally ranked Fresno State came to Aloha stadium where there were 22,000 and change in attendance. Heck, we are almost matching that attendance. The attendance at Nevada last weekend with a lot riding on the line against La Tech was a little over 8,500 - yes eight thousand five hundred. These are established WAC programs that are suffering mightily at the gate and they have been playing each other for years. Don't even get me started on CUSA. Our attendance will not dramatically improve by 10,000 per game in a new league. It is gradually improving in our current configuration. We need to concentrate on getting better right here in the SBC! crush the Cajuns! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How in the world does UT go to Rose Bowl?
NM Green replied to emmitt01's topic in Mean Green Football
The stars are aligned, that is how. In our run for New Orleans we have had a few stars aligned ourselves. However, it would be poetic justice to see Mack get squeaked out by a strong Va Tech finish. It would be poetic justice for the way he whined about Cal last year. Running through a weak big 12 (sounds so weird) is not as impressive as what Bama and Va Tech will accomplish IF they are able to complete the run. As A&M and Baylor continue to tank I think Texas' wins are going to look extremely weak in the closing weeks. I do think Va Tech can pass them. Just my .02. Eventually this cartel is going to get tired of this BS, right? Bring on a real playoff. GMG -
This was my first look at the Mean Green this season. Until yesterday I had only listened to them on the radio. Gotta be honest folks, I have seen a Mean Green team look worse. I mean, outside of getting into the endzone I was pleased with the way we moved on the vaunted top 10 team. I was expecting Meager to look like a QB from South Garland (insert program here) vs the Dallas Cowboys. He was not the Monster I was expecting to see at all. The line played okay opening some holes and overall I left the bar encouraged about the final 4 games. It's Dickey Time! The March for Lafayette begins with a march on Lafayette this Saturday! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! P.S. - The bar owner set me up with a TV and table - had the pizza and beer flowing (of course it was 2 freaking pm). The only drawback was the obnoxious Texas fans next to me and their comeback. They are there every weekend and even bring cowbells - pretty dramatic. One biker asked me how I could continue watching the Green get killed. I told him it was mi corazon - my team. I am Green through and through. GMG

Just a crazy almost hard to believe note about that Aggie game. I personally did not watch the "all evening" affair, but rather chose to listen to it from the LOST Beach on the North Shore waiting for a late night bonfire/beach party. But here is the crazy stat - June Jones (whose style I can't stand after a 3 hour 3 quarters) did not call a running play until 11:18 LEFT in the 4th quarter. The announcers were waiting to see if he would do it - go the entire game without calling a running play. They commented that he must be waiting for a more appropriate game. I am all about more "exciting" football, but please beware because I never want to become another NMSU or Hawaii styled football team. It can be tortorous to watch a 4 hour affair every weekend and watch a team continue to throw down the field in the 4th quarter because they don't know HOW to run out the clock. Lockdown LA Tech! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thoughts for renaming the New Orleans Bowl

By the way double up the Green tinted glasses and apply some bulldog block for me too. Enjoy the upset in Ruston. GMG -
Thoughts for renaming the New Orleans Bowl
NM Green replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
What a sad thread. No matter how grim OUR season is, why on Earth throw the entire league under the bus. I would love for someone to stand up in the locker rooms of ASU, LAMO, TROY, FLA Atlantic, FIU, LALA, Middle and in Fouts and tell the players that they are losers who play in a loser conference...In fact, lets call up Brandon and Brad to tell them all their efforts were worthless. I for one will let someone all by themselves read this thread to Demarcus Ware, in a room with padded walls a helmet and good insurance policy. At the end of the day no one is going to care we didn't win OCC games - check out the WAC and their stellar performance. No need to go Fresno on this site and act like we are someone when we are not. Simply strap it on, line up and play smashmouth with the mouths from Ruston. No matter how the chips fall the Mean Green will live to play another day! Geez, was life tougher when we couldn't win a 1AA playoff game with no bowl appearances in over 50 years, or now with 4 straight bowl appearances, a rebuilding team and a couple of wins that has us in the thick of another title race? GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
The reading is better than comedy central this morning. Thanks guys and gals! The reference about the 100 - 0 blowouts at the hands of LSU and UT was classic. While I can't ever imagine that, I also never imagined flying 3500 miles to watch a 65-0 thumping that could have been 100 - 0 last year. Good gosh we need to get Texas off the schedule. Maybe we can borrow a line from their series with Hawaii - we just can't afford to get the whole team, band, fans all that way. Bring on Mary Hardin! GMG

Okay, that LSU possible win reference almost made me fall out of my chair. Sad Deep but oh so necessary on a busy Sunday afternoon! We have been craving La Tech and SMU for decades - I always thought that we had better watch what we wish for. GMG
