Troy is on the move! Good for the Trojans! Now go out and beat some OOC foes. Your team is going to shine. Happy Holidays, GMG

I was thinking the same thing - beer garden outside the Super Pit. For the non-drinkers how about a hot cocoa or coffee station - get creative. Get them near the Super Pit, highlight the freebies that will be given away inside and they just might walk in and get counted in attendance. I go to the Hawaii bball games at the Stan Sheriff, which is on the campus of UH and they sell beer. They sell beer, they sell nachos, they sell gourmet coffees, its a lot like going to a Mavs game. The F&B prices are high so nobody gets trashed, but it sure is a nice way to get the Community to take interest in the team. If we ain't going to sell it inside the building, at least offer it on the outside. GMG

Awesome! I bought the old CD twice and lost them both in moves. How can I get my hands on one? B

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised to wake up and find out Fox West was carrying the Katy vs SC game out in Hawaii! Oh high school football - nobody does it better than Texas! I couldn't help but feel like I was watching the Memphis vs North Texas bowl game - Katy got all of the in the stands pub. Their bright red showed up well on TV and people frankly seem bored with SC - I don't even live there and they bore me. Not to mention their green doesn't show up in the stands. Sounds Familiar! GMG

Two of Houston top 5 running backs considering NT
NM Green replied to IslandEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
If he goes to Hawaii its only for the beach. A running back in Hawaii is worse than a running back in Div III - obscure. GMG -
It is a BEATCH being a Cowboy fan outside of Dallas on Monday after a loss. Its a completely different story after a loss like this. I can't get home for the holidays quick enough. I am not a gloater when we win (Mean Green or Cowboys); but people love to rub it in my face when my teams go down. One of my trainees in a seminar just laughed at me when I told him I was a North Texas fan. He said "150 teams and you are a North Texas fan!" he didn't pass. Grin

Vince Young whines about the Hesiman Trophy
NM Green replied to Got5onIt's topic in Mean Green Football
The games in the Coloseum look like a blast. I was watching that game on tv and couldn't help but think about how awesome it must be to ride the USC wave right now. LA fans are not the best and will jump off the wagon as soon as they take a turn, but when they are on they are on. A Pac 10 team having that kind of atmosphere is something special. GMG -
Funny how if you throw a tailgate in front of just about any event, you draw a Mean Green crowd! football game - tailgate basketball game - should be a tailgate graduation ceremony - where is the tailgate homes for humanity - who will build the tailgate 8 hours of shopping on Christmas Eve - only if there is a tailgate root canal - pre and post tailgate, please texas 2006 - is there any other reason besides the tailgate getting back to New Orleans - the mother of all tailgates! Happy Holidays MG Nation! GMG

Yep, if we play them within 64 it will be well worth my airfare. GMG

Vince Young whines about the Hesiman Trophy
NM Green replied to Got5onIt's topic in Mean Green Football
I saw a lot of Reggie Bush out in the West and this was not a two game wonder as some of you all think. The Fresno game was one of the most unbeleivable games I have ever seen, followed by the USC vs Notre Dame tilt - 2 unbelievable games in one season! USC is a team of destiny and the cows are about to be exposed - love it. Vince just gave them even more ammo and he probably hurt his chances at the statue next year. That type of "baby" mentality does not get forgotten in one year. Did you see JMO crying after being left off the Doak Walker list last year? Everyone around him was, but if I recall I don't recall JMO spewing in disgust. GO Trojans! GMG -
Mid-majors change philosophy about money games
NM Green replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
That is fine. If La Tech can deal with the fact that they will probably never go bowling in the WAC, then so be it. No sweat off the SBC brow. It will be interesting though when La La and Monroe start bowling, and that is going to happen before La Tech goes to another bowl in my humble opinion. The Bulldogs are surrounded by teams of near caliber that are Bowling - Southern Miss, Troy, North Texas and now Arkansas State. All of these teams continue to get props and national exposure while the Bulldogs don't have a season beyond November. Again, more power to La Tech and their life in the WAC. The SBC has hope of getting stronger. You can't hope that 3,700 miles gets closer. GMG -
Please help yourself - DFW - HNL $600 per person per sport - 2,300 miles (Hawaii to California) - (3,500 plus Honolulu to Denton) GO SBC! GMG

Anyone know how App State got the home game when they are the 4 seed and Furman is the 3? Where is Arkie State Fan? GMG

Mid-majors change philosophy about money games
NM Green replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
I have to think they are getting pressure from the other WAC schools. Those terrible Sun Belt programs are now horrible WAC programs because they had even farther to fall from the top. Fresno and Boise and even Nevada have to be disgruntled about the lack of familiarity and recognition their new roomates bring. Hawaii is upset under the breath but they have no room to talk only winning 5 games this year. La Tech's decision is just silly: 1. La Tech often plays these games well and even wins some. 2. As long as La Tech is in the WAC you are going to have a really tough time EVER getting to a bowl game short of winning the league (not likely unless Hawkins goes to CO as rumored.) 3. Take the money and run Bulldogs - flight from HNL to DFW approximately $600 throughout the year. I bet New Mexico Highlands shows up on NMSU's schedule. I think they beat them 77-0 the last time they played. I love Sun Devil Stadium - Mean Green at ASU? GMG -
Okay I am impressed with the Furman running game so darn much that I can't turn it to texas vs duke. The 1AA playoffs are vastly underrated. That stadium setting is awesome too. Some of the nicest Saturday settings were spent in tiny old New Mexico Highlands stadium in Las Vegas, NM. Those days when I couldn't make it back to Denton or wherever we were playing were filled with college football in a non-traditional setting. GMG

Can we please stop the TSU love fest?
NM Green replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Yeah, I about to shout out, "get a room already!" Actually - great season TSU. Now get them on our schedule soon and bring in 25,000 strong! GMG -
If UNT Schedules a 12'th Game for 2006 FB Season
NM Green replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
TSU - they would bring a ton of fans and a serious rivalry could develop with the high flying bobcats. Imagine how nice it would be to separate ourselves and throw them back in their place. I bet you we would have 20,000 show up for that game and if it is early 25,000. Next up SHSU - still a good crowd. When in doubt - good ole Abilene Christian. I remember them always bringing a good crowd in our 1AA days and we always seem to win too! We are not ready to be thumped by UTEP or UH right now. We are already going to take our lumps against SMU and Lost Tech next season. Don't even get me going on that powerhouse Tulsa. Unbelievable how low my expectations have fallen. GMG -
Politician seeks change to HS stadium choices
NM Green replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
Good for Marshall. I hope they cream the Scots. The Scots are a lot like SMU in that they somehow get a lot of breaks! Its amazing! My Bishop Lynch Friars use to get some "texas like" calls when playing buy their rules$. Lynch going to Scot Stadium is about as smart as the Mean Green going to Austin - oh wait - we continue to do that anyway. Go Mavs! GMG -
I hope we can match this year's win total, but after what I saw I think we were lucky to have gotten 2 under our belt. I will hope for 3 because that means we are headed back in the right direction. GMG

I can't believe we are going into our 9th year with Dickey. That just seems crazy long! I can't believe we have endured each other for 8 complete years already. I love stability and believe our success in the previous years was due in part to our stability at the leadership position. However, many programs that hold on to a coach for 8 years have a warm and fuzzy relationship between the HC and fanbase. I have never seen that in Denton. Even during Dickey's sunny days I don't think the fanbase ever put him up on a pedastal and proclaimed him our saviour! There were a lot of fans during the 4 year run that still disliked Dickey mightily. It's a tense filled relationship at best which is weird after 9 years. Other long time coaches seem to have garnered some love and patience from the masses to endure a dreadfull fall from grace like we had this year. When we look back in 10 or 20 years I believe we will look at the Dickey era and regime as awesome and horrific all in the same sentence. The weirder part would be to still be in the Dickey regime 10 years from now. After Monroe in 2001 I don't put anything in the "never" category. Right the ship Dickey and try to make some friends along the way! GMG

Thank you to those who sacrificed for us.

Plumm, You were at the Arizona in the 70's and my first trip to the sunken tomb was 2003. To this day the oil droplets still rise to the surface. It is definitely one of the most powerful and moving places in our country. Its other rival Ground Zero. I would also love to see the Memorial in OKC one day. GMG -
Don't touch Rick N. with a ten foot pole - your program will land on probation at some point. Barnett - don't care for him, but a change of scenery can do wonders for a coach and program - see UTEP. Barnett needs a year to chill and recollect the thoughts - we don't go back to the NO Bowl next year he is in. He made stupid comments but was not involved in the illegal stuff - We are hiring a football coach to win games, not to stand next to a priest on the sideline - no altar boy needed. GMG

76 degrees and sunny at Lihue airport Kauai. Big dangerous swell coming from the North - expecting 25 foot faces on the North Shore by Thursday. sorry guys, couldn't resist. Actually miss those occassional wild storms in front of big fireplace. Stay safe. GMG

Please do not get the two programs mixed up. Where do we live? What is king? You cannot compare what happens at Fouts with what happens in the Super Pit. When I lived in NM the Lobos football team was starting to gel under Rocky Long; however, the bball team was in shambles after Bliss left. A talk show host use to remind folks out there what drove the bus at UNM. In Lobo Country it is all about the Hoops. Football is something to root for and attend during the "offseason." Football is the appetizer to the main course - 17,000 plus in The Pit in the winter. Now times in NM may have changed with a series of bowl trips until this year, but the expectations for basketball should be and always will be higher in ABQ. Fast forward Denton. Hoops are our dessert after a trip to New Orleans. I love watching the Mean Green on the internet but football is what I save money up for to make the haul across the pond. Attitude is everything. JJ's attitude toward OOC games is not much different than Dickey's in results; however, in words, mentality and influence on the team the attitudes are worlds apart. Dickey could have that support and earn more patience with a twist of his words and actions. Just my humble opinion from having lived in Hoops country and growning up in Texas. GMG
