  1. Not to mention that you have to let the dominos fall. On the game today I saw us listed as 1 of 7 with job openings. Obviously the big dominos like Miami and Rutgers and West Virginia, Alabama...all need to do some falling to see who is available for the next tier. Publicly going after someone and losing out would not look good. The waiting game is tough but the wait will be worth it! In RV I trust! GMG
  2. I don't follow recruiting but could it be much different from what we have had over the past couple of years? To the casual recruiting fan it seems like pretty much anyone could come in and deliver the same type of class. Either way we are going to have to brace ourselves for 2-3 years of rebuilding. A new coach can make some aesthetic fixes but the culture change that is coming will be a longer term process. GMG
  3. Good gosh people act like this is our one and only ever donor! We loved Mattress Mac's contribution and I hope he continues to support the Mean Green, but there are good things to come and bigger contributions! It is water under the bridge and the future is GREEN! GMG
  4. That was a shocking stat! Earlier in the game I was commenting that Franchione lost it once he got to A&M. My friend and I watched him at New Mexico and then followed him at Bama and I have always been a fan. But his stint in College Station has not been what many were expecting including me. With that said he always was able to pull of a Signature win. In New Mexico he built the dreaded Lobos to beat a #8 ranked Utah team in University Stadium. In El Paso he led TCU over the vaunted USC machine. Once he got a signature win he was able to carry the team over the top. Is this going to be his signature win that finally turns the tide? Great day for the Ags! GMG
  5. I was thinking the same thing when watching his press conference - Dickey could have learned from the way Coker handled himself. never burn a bridge! GMG
  6. Oh those were the good old days of Mean Green football. I am already getting pumped about getting onto planes and into cars to get to Mean Green games again next year! GMG
  7. We are looking at 2 years - see SJSU. GMG
  8. That is such a silly comeback that it doesn't even warrent defending. Of course one of the 119 D1A gigs is a hell of a lot better than a high school coaching stint. Thoughts - Feelings - Actions! I believe in North Texas and it's leadership! I feel a good change coming to our football program! The actions are already underway and it's time to get excited again! GMG
  9. Just like this was new territory for NT last year this has to be troubling for FSU. Those guys must be about to hang themselves. That is a once proud program that is being stomped upon by the WAC. What sticks out to me is just how many bad teams there are this year - us included. GMG
  10. I get this sinking feeling DD is coming back. I didn't think there was any way a few weeks ago, but since so little action has been taken I can't help but think that we are doomed for another last place belt finish in '07. I don't even get off the couch anymore to get to the office to watch it on the net. I look for the tickers and last weekend didn't even check it until hours after the game was over. That is a mean green fan today and tomorrow. Hopefully we can cut this line loose after 07. The great thing is that we can't fall much further - it's like getting a false start penalty at the 1 yard line - can't let the opponents get much closer - but dang are you in bad shape. At least I have been through this before - it's like de javu - a spin back to helpless times and I do recall a light at the end of the tunnel. It will be fun again one day. GMG
  11. Living in WAC country I can see the league and it's members up close. I also see the strategies each program employ to deal with having Hawaii and La Tech in the conference. Right now the football team and ladies volleyball team travel together. This past weekend Utah State hosted Hawaii in football in the afternoon and volleyball in the evening. Last weekend Idaho brought their two teams to Honolulu. That strategy is great, but it is not as easy to do with basketball, soccer, tennis and softball. The seasons don't mirror as easily. The competition is tougher, but it is still a 2 maybe 3 horse league. Nevada has grown competitive over the years, but only Fresno, Boise and Hawaii have the consistency. The other programs are riding along and improving, but living in a Western league doesn't afford you any down years. Take a look at TCU - they have become non-existent on the national scene and I wouldn't be surprised if their attendance falls as a result of what is for them a mediocre year. Further, we wouldn't sniff a bowl and if we did it would be a bad one. The Sheraton Hawaii Bowl already invited Hawaii and ALWAYS will when they are eligible. This is not the Sun Bowl and UTEP. This Bowl was created for the Bows and this year they lined up a Pac 10 opponent. The Boise Bowl might open up for some lucky school (Idaho in the Winter) if they make it to the BCS. Nevada is being courted by the New Mexico Bowl. Our options would be out West and they would not want North Texas, I promise you that (feels silly even thinking about bowls anymore). La Tech has to be getting ready to lobby for an invite to the Sun Belt. They have to be sick to their stomach watching North Texas, Arkie State, Troy and Middle go bowling in their backyard. The Sun Belt has so much to offer a program like La Tech - regional rivalries and a competitive landscape. If they choose to stay out West they will become an NMSU, Idaho or SJSU before long. They are well on their way. Good win for them this weekend. Change the coach - I want to go bowling again! GMG
  12. His SMU should be dominating this league and winning 9 & 10 games every year was just laughable. SMU is irrelevant and has a long road to respectability. Ours is not quite as long if we make the right turnoff. Turn off this coaching staff and let the building begin! The SMU game was huge and the La Tech game is huge too. We beat the bulldogs the season is a little less painful but still bad. GMG
  13. The last time I looked the Sun Belt was playing 1A football. In fact, the Sun Belt is very close to competing with CUSA. With a few precious head coaching gigs why dogde the opportunity to make an impact? This bashing of the Belt is getting old. Our league is about start winning some of those close battles (next year - mark it) and CAN draw a name coach who does not think they are done. Bring on John L. GMG
  14. The Ticket on the Internet. Only when I get into work Bad Radio is already on and then I get the the Hardline. Sometimes I listen the evening program to get the highlights from Norms and the Musers shows. Good to get the Dallas update daily. Aloha GMG beatlatech
  15. Sunday night college football that is not on Labor Day weekend or during Bowl Week just doesn't feel right, and I'm a CF addict! aloha
  16. Southern - facts are one thing - stewing on a board of blown up Mean Green fans is another thing. Get over it. We suck and we know we suck - the change is coming. As for Meager being good, please! I am with the poster that has major concerns about the DEVELOPMENT of our entire team, coaching staff, fanbase...The fanbase is probably doing the best in a muck of a situation (thanks RV), but the players are not Mean Green players. This team is not good and we all know that, but I sure do see other programs bring in new coaches, new systems, new players and make something happen. Please do not be disillusioned by being in the SBC anymore. If programs in the middle of rural America can grab talent, sell hope and develop players, then a program in the middle of Freaking North TEXAS sure as heck can get a few gems and grow them. We aren't even competing anymore! I tell you it is like hell watching the nations top offense move chains with practically every down in Hawaii and then sit back and watch us struggle to toss a 3 yard pass. Disgusting. Please change this coaching staff soon! You can tell I just watched the Cowboy game - damn, I feel like I have been watching years upon years of dreadful football - is it Mavs season yet! GMG
  17. I've got to root for La La because I don't think CUSA is going to have enough eligible teams to fill its bowl slots. If a Troy, ASU, ULL or MTSU are sitting there bowl eligible we might get an opportunity to showcase 2 teams in bowls come December - hopefully winning 1 or both of them. The SBC is making strides and we must take advantage of this down CUSA year. It's a stretch but I hope we win on Saturday! These gameplan games that I get to actually get to see are valuable! The last one was a dud. Beat Arkie State! GMG
  18. Texas is a poor comparison because doesn't a team that "out-athletes" you beat you no matter what type of offense you run? A spread offense or Dickey ball would fail in the long run on a consistent basis, but a spread offense might keep you in the game a bit longer or at least give you a chance to come back. The one note you made about the running back is huge. This is the first year I have seen UH with a true running threat in Nate Ilawa. You have a perfect storm brewing in the 50th state because Colt Brennan (Transfer from Colorado) is a stud. Nate reminds me of Brandon in his size and in how low to the ground he runs - his balance is phenomenal. They are having no problem confusing defenses and had a chance to pull off upsets in Tuscaloosa and Boise. They fell short by a touchdown in both games but those places are tough to win at. I am not saying throw the running game out the window, because you can't if you want to win in a Leach/Jones system. However, take a look at the type of ball being played at the high school level. There are more players being developed in that Southlake Carroll system than ever before. Someone mentioned earlier about the practice required to run it and that poster was right on. The amount of passes that get thrown at a UH practice is huge. You pass and catch and pass and catch and pass and catch and test routes for hours on end. Whoever the coach is make sure they know how to teach a system and that they are an expert in that system. He can then bring in the coaches to fill the deficiencies and bingo - a good D, creative O, solid coaching adjustments = wins! beat arkie state
  19. Dickey doom and gloom. Meager's comments even sounded like a good dose of Dickey influence. I am grateful we won and confident we learned as a result of being pushed to the nth degree, but get over it already. Admit that it was an ugly win, that our performance to date is below standard and that we are ready to fight like hell to take down the defending co-champ! That dickey poor is me talk is why there needs to be a change after this season. GMG
  20. I have been thinking the same thing after watching all three Hawaii home games this year. There isn't a June Jones or Mike Leach type offense in the Metroplex. That type of offense would draw certain types of players and if you think about generation Next that might just be the type of game they are interested in playing. It would be a massive philosophy change for the Program and fanbase to overcome, but it sure does seem effective. It puts fannies in the seats, that is for sure. GMG
  21. That upside down Bulldog is classic. Can Hawaii actually pull off a road win against the despised FSU bulldogs? I heard the Bulldogs were booed off their own field after dropping one to Colorado State a couple of weeks ago. After losing in Logan the FS Nation is going to be calling for Pat Hill's head! interesting game to come. GMG beat bye!
  22. What a historical night! I joined the internet broadcast when we were up 2-0. I thought I had accidentally re-logged back onto the Tulsa game. We go up 5-0 and then I am frustrated because with all the breaks and good field position we can do NOTHING!. I continue to get disheartened as we fall apart and the Panthers go up 13 - 5. I leave the internet broadcast in the early 4Q to attend a meeting followed by a trip to Aloha Stadium. I am bummed throughout the night and venting to my friend about the Mean Green loss and dreadful play. Though I am in my Mean Green shirt and hat I feel like I am cheating on my team with every roar for Warriors after a score. I head home and decide to turn on the ticker to get the final score and yelled out - WE WON! IN OVERTIME! Later CSTV reports that in our first OT game we played 7OTs!!! LOST is not just a show filmed on this island. I start trying to do the math and decide that certainly: 1. I heard wrong 2. I drank too much beer at the UH game 3. I have been up since 6:00am watching football so the math skills are worn 4. A combination of all of the above Reading the board today brings back those memorable games of years past. This is my 20th year of UNT fandom and the games that this would have joined had I been there were: Miracle in the Desert, Utah State, SHSU (ended like the Cowboy game did today). Enjoy the win no matter how we got it! At least you could have been there. At a minimum it's another week to keep the NOB alive! GMG
  23. The good thing is that in years past we were 0fer or maybe 1 win - MTSU over Vandy and we were losing to the 1AAs. A couple of weeks ago a Honolulu radio host was dogging bad programs around the country. He mentioned how terrible Illinois (before they beat MSU), and Indiana were this year and others. He went on to comment that they wouldn't be able to win the Sun Belt this year. This is a market that doesn't have any love for the SBC so I actually took that as a compliment. The perception of the Belt is gradually improving and that win by U Laf over the other UH was huge! H-town just played with Miami last week. Good job GREEN! Arkie State's win was good for them and this is going to be a fun race. Hopefully we can be in it or impact it! GMG
  24. As to the Conference Champion question - I am not sure we would have won without Dickey. He was the right coach at the right time. We are at a different level with different expectations now, as we should be. GMG
  25. Friend, I hope Dickey's future is already determined. I would still like a change even with a win over La Tech and Bowl game. Of course that probably has a snowballs chance in heck in happening anyway, but I hope to see change even if all the cards were to fall right in the next 3 months. GMG
