  1. One other thing...It still seems weird having UTEP in CUSA. They are way the heck out there and I just see them having a heck of a lot more in common with the western programs. Sure their billboard highlights their big home game with Texas, has an SMU, Rice and Tulane helmet in the back drop, but it still seems strange. Can't imagine they would have trouble drawing in 35K - 40K with Fresno, Hawaii, Boise and NMSU coming into their house. UAB, Marshall, ECU, UCF, Southern Miss are nice programs but have so little in common with the Miners. Its kind of like TCU in the Mountain West - good conference, just weird alignment. Don't even get me going on those bulldogs due east from us and their bizarre alignment choice! GMG
  2. Went on a jaunt to El Paso, White Sands over the weekend and listened to the local sports show on the drive back. Apparently a report came out about NMSU's sagging attendance. Apparently the Aggies are struggling to meet their 15K goal and are staring a drop of football in the face. Now I know those reports always get overblown, especially when minor fan comes out of the woodwork to rag on the southern new mexico program up the road. But what was more interesting to me was the fact that the WAC honeymoon appears to be over. Even with the hiring of Hal Mumme, a change of style, and an invitation to their dream conference they are not making the numbers. One caller pointed out that they have had good program draws like Cal, Army and a strong Tulsa roll through Las Cruces and the question posed was "Why does NMSU have so much trouble drawing 15k people to the stadium?" Aggie fan didn't have an answer other than winning needs to happen for things to change. It made me think of UNT. A dream conference does not guarantee a solid program. We want want and keep on lusting after CUSA, but if we are simply relying on the conference to take care of our issues we are asking for a huge smelling salt. If we rely on our football stadium plan to rectify our issues, we are in for a big smelling salt. We need to get hungry as a fanbase again and drum up attendance at every turn, recruit friends, family and strangers to our big opener in September - really set ourselves up for an attendance success in 2008. Hopefully Todd and Co will take care of their business, and our AD and Crew do their part as well and if the stars align we could be in for a treat in a few short months! beat ksu GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. I like the idea of Okie State. I would think they would jump at an opportunity to play in Dallas every other year. Time it during the state fair and Okie State fans could make the trip to enjoy some corn dogs and funnel cakes just like their brethren. Call it Oklatober! GMG
  4. I hope GO UTA made his way to Katy for this game! I think the new Texas Stadium is going to bring some indirect recognition to UT-Arlington. Can they seize the opportunity? Now people will know the Arlington outside of Virginia. Go Mavs!
  5. Guys and gals we really need to get out to the host city to watch the tourney next year - myself included. I was lucky enough to go to the Mountain West Tournament this year where I watched UNLV squeak by TCU - talk about a game! I am a Mean Green fan first, Lobo fan second and UNLV fan third when it comes to college hoops. Seeing the unthinkable almost happen with the Runnin Rebels almost going down was something else. Hearing TCU playing Deep in the Heart of Texas warmed the heart. But the passion, excitement from all teams fans being in the house is awesome! After the Rebel win I stayed to watch the new and improved New Mexico Lobos. I actually drove down to NM twice from Vegas just to experience some games in The Pit again. Alford is setting up NM nicely for the future and their fans were rabid in Sin City. They bring thousands to the tourney every year even though they have failed to make it out of their first round game 7 of the last 9 years! I rooted like heck for the Lobos to advance, but stingy Utah pulled it out. Lobo fans are frustrated after McKay took their program into the toilet and were saddened by this lost. They will go NIT but they had a chance to make the dance with a couple of wins. UNLV vs UNM matchup - see the order on top:) By the way every Utah, BYU, Lobo fan in the house was rooting hard for that Frog upset that didn't materialize, so you can have fun watching ALL of the games! I had to work and couldn't make the final last night but dvr'ed it. It was great to see this undersized UNLV team beat the mighty cougars who bring the house along with NM to Vegas. What a game and I am so proud to have watched this group surge. They will struggle with size in the dance like they did against Utah and BYU, but Kruger is the man. I love his style of D, just smothering! So yes, feeling guilty that I did not see the Mean Green this year but managed alot of rebel lobo games. We have a solid team in Denton and I along with all on this board need to support them in Denton, away and in Hot Springs next year! GMG U-N-L-V Go Fight Win!
  6. Reading the bio on the Exes chapter and all that is to come from a networking, socializing...point I dropped my renewal in the mail without hesitation. I am excited about our new blood in the Chapter and I could easily see this being the mother of away tailgates - kind of like our ones at OU have been - fun, convenient and easy to find. If making a weekend of it and have kiddos in tow I know Six Flags is no longer there, but is there an aquarium or something interesting to take in early in the morning or on Sunday? GMG
  7. Disciplined ball is a beautiful thing to watch! That is what would peeeisss me off about dd's teams and wade's warriors - yea right! This cowboy team was not serious enough for my liking and if they don't change their approach next year, we will be right back here looking at another missed opportunity. cowboys could have lost to the giants or packers - again, the fake 13-3. What a Troy job. GMG
  8. After living through the mavs last year this is a piece of cake. It was a fun ride. The cowboys were lucky to win 13 and I personally felt they were not 13-3 good. They were a paper tiger that finally got exposed tonight. Oh well, there are only 2 losses of such magnitude that is shakes the core of this Mean Green/DFW fan: 1. 1988 in Austin 2. Golden State I was in Staples Center last night and watched the Mavs win a game they totally did not deserve to get - Stack with a 3 at the buzzer! mavs in the Staples house went crazy! LET'S GO MAVS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GMG
  9. I forgot the game was on today. That is how unimpressed I was with this bowl season. That random mobile bowl on Sunday was a joke too. I want that bowl tie in the Sun Belt but geez move that game back into December. GMG
  10. Boring. I was totally disillusioned by this bowl season and this mythical nc that I forgot the game was today. Turned it on at halftime and watched the typical big ten beat down. What about that random mobile bowl yesterday. I hope we get that bowl tie in down the line, but geez that game needs to be moved into December. GMG
  11. I hear ya! Both SMU and UNT will become strong programs in the Metroplex. Good move for SMU yet we have a solid 2 - 3 year head start before Junes gets it rolling. Dodge needs 7 wins this year and a bowl game or conference championship next year. The clock has just been put on fast forward for us to get our act together. Jones will need years to get the pony express rolling. It will be fun race! GMG
  12. Leaving Hawaii has to be one of the most difficult things to do. It is not like leaving California, Florida or even Texas. The people are truly family and after hearing about his emotions I think he stays in Hawaii. He could become Hawaiian Royalty like if he stays now and with a substantial raise, commitment to facilities - why on earth would he leave. You don't move to Hawaii to make money and life a lavish lifestyle. You don't leave Hawaii because the place and people are not healthy to be around. You leave Hawaii for opportunity and to build your resume. If he can build the University of the state he loves and has resurrected athletically, why on earth leave paradise and the lifestyle it offers. My decision to leave Hawaii last year was excruciating and it had to be SNAP, because the emotional drain brought on by the pain of the people, the aloha spirit, the sunsets, morning runs on the beach, sunday hibachis at Sandy's, hiking to the top of makaapu to watch the sun come up over the sea, oh yeah and the occasional whale jumping out of the ocean, makes it a truly challenging place to leave. Now I hope Jones stays in Hawaii and listens to his heart. Go Hawaii! GMG
  13. SMustang - get ready to watch the blue and red take over the Metro. I lived in Hawaii for 3 years where I saw an entire state come alive under June Jones. He led a dreadful program to the Sugar Bowl. Are you kidding me, from the most isolated populated place in the WORLD (FACT). Now you put him in the center of a recruiting hot bed, where his only passing attack programs of competiion are North Texas, Tech and Baylor - come on! Who now has the nads to walk into living rooms and preach: 1. I can get you to the BCS 2. I can get you to the NFL 3. I can get you to New York for the Heismann 4. I can get you a conference championship 5. I can get you on national television stages in front of a sold out house with people pressed up against the fences at Ford and hanging from the rafters 6. I can get you a game against a national power in the House that Jones built 7. I can get you into the NCAA football Top 10 Yeah - aweful hire. Getting kids to come to Hawaii is TOUGH for numerous reasons (distance, facilities, lack of national name recognition and history) He will have all of those at SMU. Now as a fan, I am Mean Green first even Darrell Dickey style of play. But I as a college football fan would pay to watch SMU football if it was entertaining and you know it will be that at a minimum out on the Hilltop. Relax, we are creating that in Denton too, but if people can drive to watch entertaining football in Denton or catch the Dart to Mockingbird people will have choices. Ladies and gentlemen we are about to have some fierce competition on all fronts. It is time to show them whose pony is bigger. Dig in Mean Green fan and prepare to work! Way to go SMU! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. The more I look at it the more it looks like it will happen. Oh my how the energy pendelum would swing south. It would be interesting to see how the pony fan would welcome his style. He is about giving people second chances, bringing in some non-traditional students, and will require a lot of control. He would be perfect for SMU in that he would be getting a low hanging fruit program and be able to grow it up like he did Hawaii. Change the culture, build the brand and sell the city of Dallas on Mustang football again. WOW. This is going to be exciting for the Metroplex. Dodge Ball is only going to get better, the froggies are going to get worried and Jones and is going to build - Top notch football in the Metro for the next 10 years! GMG
  15. I think that is an awesome idea. They more appreciation they feel from the mean Green fanbase, the harder they will work to make sure our Green Day experience continues to be top notch! Remember, everyone needs to feel the love, players, coaches, AD and team, Green Brigade, fanbase, opposing teams fans. Tis the season to plan for an amazing 08! GMG
  16. Something about finding out that you are living in the most isolated populated land mass in the world - 2500 miles from the nearest land - San Francisco. I spent 3 amazing years in Hawaii and would go back in a heartbeat, but it definitely brings it into perspective when you are an 8 hour flight from Dallas and an 8 hour flight from Tokyo. Jones would be smart to get out now - but smu? I guess if the money talks and it would certainly be a new challenge. What are his long range goals because exposure would be greater on the mainland for sure - does he want a big time program? Does he want back in the NFL? If not, stay on the rock, hibachi on the beach, surf the north shore and watch all the freezing people on the weather channel and say, "gosh am I glad I am not there." Disagree on the Belt team not busting the bcs. If a Troy, NT, FAU ran the table we will be in a bcs bowl. We all play tougher teams than what Hawaii did this year. By the way received all the Hawaii gear in the mail for Christmas, so I am rooting for the Bows to pull the upset! GO COLT! GMG
  17. everyone takes their time making the "change" to the other side. however after my first year on the alumni side i love it! You get good game angles without the sun in your face, can still hear the band in full force and yell with the cadences. I also love walking across the field at the end and standing in front of the band as they play "you will never walk alone." we sway from the field with the band alumni and watch the fireworks from the field - new seats, new traditions. still crazy! GMG
  18. whatever UNT will rock in the coming years whether they were in cusa, big 12, sbc or wac. it's all about the green. its all about the future! GMG
  19. The tough thing is that even after we become friends, I still think of them as their handle and practically introduce them that way. As a business major I sure struggled and still do with real names. So Adler, Firefightin Rick, Emmitt, Harry, MeanRob, Cerebus, Jaydub, Stebo, Deepgreen, MarkMiller, SUMG, MoGreen, you all are doomed to your handles for almost 10 years now and beyond! beat FIU! GMG
  20. It has been the most underwhelming upset even though it is a MONSTER accomplishment! Didn't this team almost take down the next National Champion just a few short weeks ago? South Florida goes into Auburn and wins and pops into the top 20. ULM goes into Tuscaloosa and accomplishes what Southern Miss desperately tries to do but is almost alway unsuccessful - beat Bama! Amazing job and I am convinced the SBC is better than CUSA this year. We should be ranked ahead of them in D1A. We have had some eye-popping OCC wins. Love for the Belt! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. I love watching Troy and FAU shine for our league! It has always baffled me when some think this league is ours to dominate or lose. I wish! I enjoyed those 4 years in New Orleans because it may be the next decade before we sniff the New Orleans Bowl again. Look at how tough the road for MTSU has been! Way to go Troy! Way to go FAU! Let all this frustration out on Navy! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. This has to be smoke. Air Force has long-standing ties with all of those powers and good rivalries with the rest of the academies. This is not happening anytime soon and while the MWC is not the Big East in regard to priviledge, it is equal the league in my opinion without the automatic bid. GMG
  23. I think Barnett would be a solid hire. They need a coach who knows x's and o's unlike the celebrity hire James would be. Whoever the coach is I would hope they see a UNT/SMU/TCU trivalry as a great thing! beat Navy! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  24. This was a great game and it was cool to witness history! However, a close second on great finishes tonight includes LSU and the Tide. The Dream season continues for the Tigers! GMG
  25. Don't even pay attention to the impatience. A few more wins with a unstable foundation = frustration for years. Dodge is doing it the right way and people who are calling for heads simply may not have built things for long-term success before. Let them whine and let them yell when we win. They simply wear their emotions on their sleeve and don't like to keep things under control. Remember that everyone on here is part of the Mean Green Nation and all are needed to take this program to the next level. In Dodge We Trust! Beat mtsu! GMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
