  1. Of course it will be cancelled - call me Hurricane green! I had tickets to the LSU game in 2005 as one of my trips for Mean Green football only at that time from Hawaii. Coming from Vegas now so not as big of a disappointment if it doesn't go. Yet, I know those Cajuns and they are going to be ready for a game come UNT weekend. Wouldn't be surprised if they have the Death Valley team working on overdrive! GOD Bless Louisiana. GMG
  2. People wandered into my office to see if I was distraught today. I have witnessed too many Dodge style offenses to realize that if you cannot get it going you are not going to win. Conversely if you do catch the rhythm you have a chance to win. Based on Tulsa's defense I am confident we will get it going on Saturday. With any kind of defensive improvement we are in the game with Tulsa. With some solid improvement we win. With great improvement on the defensive side of the ball we beat down Tulsa. The way you beat Hawaii, SMU or UNT is to not let them get anything going - congrats to KSU. Both programs 1-1 after Saturday! GMG
  3. our job to stop them - everyone makes weird moves now and then. I was at that awful game where we routed Ark State at Fouts during the glory years and we did the silly grenade in the endzone. I hated that because it felt disrespectful and I didn't like seeing people having their faces rubbed in the turf. It all evens out and one day we will have to call off the dogs. GMG
  4. Darn we need a win. I was in no way wishing for the glory years of DD? I happen to see the Utah State Aggies in person and noticed how similar they looked to the program I followed to New Orleans for 4 years in a row. He has the running back and qb and play that looked a lot like us a few years back. I wish him and the aggies nothing but good in the wac - will they win, who knows - will we win, who knows - its just a game of football after all. beat down tulsa! GMG
  5. bite your tongue - we will beat Monroe! They have always been the closest thing to a rival we have ever had next to NMSU. when we are down we beat them - when they are down they can beat us! The Mean Green offense needs a rhythm and when that hits (tulsa) the Green are going to roll. The difference is that this year DeLoach will not let his defense get smoked quarter after quarter, game after game. once we put some points up on the board and shut the gustav hurricanes down on a few series we will pull away for our first W of the year! at the end of the day, win, lose, slaughter or get blown out - does anything beat a hot humid beer drenched day in Mean Green Country for the home opener? didn't think so - BE THERE - GET CRAZY! GMG
  6. Just got back from the UNLV game where I felt like I was watching Dickey ball West. There were some eerie similarities: 1. playing all the way to 3rd down sometimes 4 to get 10 yards. 2. wide open receivers with shocking drops maybe because they just don't get to taste the ball very often 3. the dreaded 5.5 minute drive with 8 minutes left in the game when down by 17 4. a drive to the 1.5 yard line with a 5 yard false start penalty - they were able to get the TD with 4 downs 5. USU ran 70 plays and scored 17 points I never wish Darrell Dickey anything but best wishes and am thankful for our 4 bowl games and experiences down in soon to be Gustav country, but we are headed in the right direction with TD. Prince has built a wicked defense in Manhattan and we simply couldn't get anything going. We won't see that again until Baton Rouge, but I am confident we will grow our offense in the coming weeks and be competitive in the Belt. This Sun Belt is tough despite the hard knocks today (kudos Arky State - that was my upset pick on that poll). We may not go bowling this year, but we are going to have some fun moments this year - be there to enjoy the ride! topple tulsa! GMG P.S. - I walked around the good contigent of USU fans in Sam Boyd tonight with my toothpaste green North Texas shirt - was waiting for someone to tell me to take him back.
  7. Darn our BCS hopes are shot now! Guess i'll have to use that ticket to Miami for FAU instead of USC - so close, so darn close! next week we are going to score but so it tulsa - look for another navy game with us getting the 72 this time. We hold them under 50 and win. Prediction - 2-10 with wins over tulsa to help us feel better, and NLU because we always beat them:) ouch that trip to baton rouge could be a beating and in person no less! Oh well enjoy death valley and the craziness that is being tiger bait. GMG
  8. I have been thinking the same thing - that storm better keep some speed once it hits the gulf coast and not slow down like da*mn Fey did - just creeping along enjoying the sights! GO MEAN GREEN! GO Fast young Gustav - go fast! GMG
  9. Did you just start posting here becuase you just found the site? If so, we should get some flyers to handout in the parking lots, at the tailgats, in the Exes party at the Pit, all over the stadium to drive people here. Once here you are hooked and if we could get even more students, exes, southlakers, curious folk, disconnected diehards (they are out there and everyone needs a home) we could begin to elevate communication even more. I've been on here for over a decade but each home game presents new opportunities to spread the mean green fever. beat KSU! GMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. We've all been there brutha! We've lost sleep and hopefully not jobs! We've been completely distracted - friends, who needs friends? just accept the addiction - remember that this is not a dress a rehearsel - enjoy the mean green moment:) beat KSU! GMG
  11. Memo to self - buy Miller to support our distributors and for the AFTER tailgate! Memo to self - make green and white tecate sign for the MG Village fence because that is what I will be walking around drinking with lime salt and lime wedges in tow:) Two Randoms: 1. We need a more organized POST football game tailgate! My friends and I hang out and drink after the spot - is there anything better than a cold one on a hoarse throat after all the yelling! 2. Was in Reno this weekend and couldn't help but feel like the Nevada campus had a North Texas feel to it. Even the town was semi-college but not so much - kind of like Denton. Overall nice campus, stadium with a track - however, they get Texas Tech at home the weekend we beat up on Tulsa! GMG
  12. I voted and like the arky state over a&m possibility. they have been close and maybe this is the year. go red wolves! GMG
  13. I love FAU and Troy's in your face attitude - easy to like, easy to dislike - built to win! Go Owls! I was living in Hawaii when they marched in from SoFLA and took out mighty Hawaii. The Warriors rarely lose at home especially to a little ole team who had to travel over 3,000 miles just to have the honor to line up against them. They took the field and took out Hawaii on the islands sending the Aloha State fans home in a not so Aloha Spirit mood. Do the same in Austin to Longhorn fan! GO FAU! GO BELT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Magnitude of Tennessee would be a win down in Death Valley over the defending mythical national champions. A win over Kansas State would be terrific, but more like a "take that Texas Tech"2 kind of win! K-State began their roll after beating us - it is time to return the favor! GMG
  15. Isn't just refreshing to see a coach walking into a game believing his team can win! If the coach doesn't think it can happen how on earth is the team going to even think they have a chance. I recommend Miracle - the 1980 Olympic Hockey Team - "if we played them 10 times they might win 9, but not this game, not tonight! I am sick and tired of hearing about how good the Soviets (insert longhorns) are, screw'em!" On the 20 year anniversary of our robbery in Austin my hope is that FAU goes into Memorial Stadium and puts up a great fight! May the horns know they were in a battle with the best of the Belt after that night! GMG Go FAU! By the way does Dodge and Co believe they can walk in and take a bit out of the little apple? This North Texas team can beat KSU! beat the kats!
  16. absolutely! the wac is perceived as better because Boise, Hawaii and Fresno have knocked off some big boys. If this guy helps troy win some big games, enter the top 25 and land a good bowl game - we all win. see la tech and nmsu riding that train! GMG
  17. I'd be a little ticked if i were Kansas going in at 13 after a dream season. ohio state in another title game - pass the smelling salt now! GMG
  18. Good decision to stay in NM and they may actually beat them in Albuquerque. GMG
  19. I've got a room in the shady part of Las Vegas to raffle off at the FIU game:) And know it is not over the hump in Pahrump at the Bunny Ranch. GMG
  20. A roaming Flying Tomato pizza truck - yum and brings back the memories! They should make the aluminum seats the all you can eat seats like they do at Dodger Stadium. That promotion is priceless because when I walk up to Dodger Stadium to try to get a seat in that section where you can eat and drink all you want for a flat rate fee - the seats are always sold out! Throw a concession in the actual section and people don't even have to wait in lines! Make those $20 seats and let people chow, cheer and roll out of the stadium by the end of the season! GMG
  21. Riskeeeeee but I like the out of the box thinking - puts a litte pressure on all involved and at a minimum we get food and beverage revenue from the dogs, pizza, cokes and waters they will throw down at that Tulsa game! GMG
  22. Moved to New Mexico for 6 years and after my first trip to The Pit and I was emotionally connected to Lobo hoops. I live in vegas now but drove 10 hours two times to root for the Lobos against Air Force and some other foe - who cares, I was in The Pit rooting for the lobos with a big ole wolf paw on the back of my shirt! Moved to Hawaii for 3 years and emotionally connected with June Jones Hawaii program after one rowdy night in Aloha Stadium. I ended up getting into volleyball, basketball and baseball - supporting the Warriors (football), Rainbow Warriors (basketball), Warriors (mens volleyball) Bows (baseball) hardcore for 3 solid years - yep, emotionally connected. Moved to Vegas for 18 months now and have attended two seasons worth of UNLV basketball games - take friends and family to the Thomas & Mack when here visiting - sing the UNLV fight song, do the Reb-els tomahawk chant and take half a day off to go crazy in buffalo wild wings during march madness - probably buying season tickets this season - yep emotionally connected. Now how do I get connected these programs so quickly? They make it easy to do business with them. They offered an amazing first impression which made me want to return. We cannot control the media but we do control the gameday experience. We control the merchandising efforts, these brands reached out to me and asked me to come on board. When has UNT truly done that with monster success. How come people move into DFW every day yet choose not to check out a UNT football or basketball game. Why when I get asked where I went to school do I still feel compelled to explain where North Texas is - 34,000 students! I am somewhat relieved when people tell me they know North Texas is located in Denton. Not beatching, but world class brands understand that everything communicates, and this report communicates an embarrassing message. From the beautiful fountain and eagle statue on campus to our ridiculous stadium every single detail on that campus is communicating to UNT students, new arrivals into town, potential recruits, gameday visitors. What is not said is just as important as what is said and the fact that we don't have a model of the new stadium sitting in both entrances of Fouts showing people to future of UNT football is shameful. How on earth are we going to get where we want to go if we don't take care of the details. Our president is in a position to make those around her push envelopes. I don't know what is and is not going on behind the scenes from a distance. All I know is that I have lived in 3 other states and grasped onto their programs which I support long after I leave. Push the envelope - unleash the power of our hundred thousand alumni - arm the 34,000 students with hope, tools and a reason to get/stay connected. GMG
  23. La Tech is an afterthought in football and should have to apply for SBC membership if they want to join in the future. How many bulldogs at away games this year with gas and air going in the wrong direction? Stadiums are going to be a bit more empty this fall - just watch. GMG
  24. Not to mention that SMU will beat Baylor a few of those times with Jones at the helm. I could easily see SMU taken 3 minimum, maybe 4. Four W's over a big 12 team is the kind of statement that will make SMU a force in the future. I watched Jone build a beast on the islands. The aerial war is coming and we have to find a way to play that team either on the schedule once every 5 years or in a bowl game. It's gonna be fun! GMG
  25. One other thing...It still seems weird having UTEP in CUSA. They are way the heck out there and I just see them having a heck of a lot more in common with the western programs. Sure their billboard highlights their big home game with Texas, has an SMU, Rice and Tulane helmet in the back drop, but it still seems strange. Can't imagine they would have trouble drawing in 35K - 40K with Fresno, Hawaii, Boise and NMSU coming into their house. UAB, Marshall, ECU, UCF, Southern Miss are nice programs but have so little in common with the Miners. Its kind of like TCU in the Mountain West - good conference, just weird alignment. Don't even get me going on those bulldogs due east from us and their bizarre alignment choice! GMG
