  1. Went to the Dodger game last night and was hungry after the 3:20 game and fireworks! Dig dodgertown! Anyway illegally parked at the 7-eleven and headed the club where that bacon dog is always found and known to hit the spot. gone! was there the night before and hungry after the club - gone. Now the conspiracy is out. certainly they can set up in MacArthur park or something and get protected by the gangs i watch on gangland. Leave a little extra tip, cops stay away - drive in fast, leave faster! They are that worth it:) GMG
  2. JJ will have SMU winning soon. Let's hope TD can work his magic too and we have some awesome Metroplex teams to contend with - not just TCU. GMG
  3. So I am kicking back watching SDSU at UNM on Saturday on Versus and right before half they pan the crowd going crazy in Loboland. They search for the new football coach but accidentally pan too far right and zero in on our good friend Darrell Dickey! Darrell looked great in his traditional stance - arms crossed, hand on chin, decked out in Lobo Cherry & Silver. He realizes he is on camera and erupts into a big cheer pumping his arms in air. I couldn't believe my eyes! I am happy for Dickey and he looks great! The camera man realized he zoned in on the wrong person and before long was on their new head coach to the right. Everyone won in this situation: 1. The best thing to happen to Darrell was to get fired from UNT. 2. A fired DD lead to a stint in the mountains of Utah and now gets to reside in enchanting New Mexico. 3. UNT won because we rode Darrell to our first bowl game in forever - and then 3 thereafter - oh those New Orleans Bowls! 4. UNT hired a stud coach and rode the wave of publicity for 2 years. 5. UNT increased attendance with one of the most challenged teams in our history and passed a new stadium vote. We are all in a better place with bright futures ahead. Good luck DD! Howl like heck out there in Loboland! Good luck Mean Green and bring back the W's this season! GMG
  4. KRAM, Awesome post! If every person on this board did on thing to market the Mean Green this fall every day, think about how awesome it would be to see all of these arms in operation. The Athletic department has this in their job description, but we can choose to have it in our hearts. We are not perfect and don't have a solid winning tradition to hang our hat on. We don't have a run to the BCS to promote. We don't have some things, but we do have a lot of things and you know why you are Mean Green. So promote with pride - begin making plans for the Spring game - check air fares for a trip home - phone and friend and begin planning that reunion tailgate. Every single person can choose to play a role in the development of this program. Life is short - have some fun! GMG P.S. - anybody else's mouth watering at the thought of Dreamland BBQ before the Bama game? That place is legendary and I can't wait to experience it!
  5. I'm for moving to bigger destinations, but in the interim why not make our home the best it can be? More concerning is that I believe due to our location and SMU's inclusion in CUSA that UTSA has a darn good chance of getting an invite first. Yeah that would stink but its not like CUSA hangs its hat on tradition or who has been playing the game a long time - see South Florida. I wish we were pimping to get into the Mountain West. TCU needs a travel part, the MWC is on the verge of BCS, there are established programs in the Mountain and selfishly I would get to see a lot of North Texas living out West. Now I am dreaming:) GMG
  6. They would be a good addition to the Belt. Another good market in the Belt - Miami, Fort Lauderdale, DFW, San Antonio, Mobile and our champ in New Orleans! Some good travel and potential bowl destination cities. GMG
  7. Jaydub, You had better look me up one of those jaunts into Vegas. A round of beverages at the GRAND before your departure looks like a plan to me:) I was at the UNLV game on Tuesday and flying in on the jumbotron were all of the Rebel home games - Oregon State, BYU, Hawaii, to name a few. Triggered excitement in me just thinking about f-ball. However, I would love to start planning some trips back for the fall and can't get our confirmed home schedule. Call it selfish, but it would also be cool to know who we are playing on those precious select weekends. To the poster "JUST WIN." Wish it were that easy but at least we can control Marketing, we can't control winning. Get the butts on 35, in the tailgate lot and hopefully in the stands. Effective marketing can get the first two and with creativity get the third one accomplished too. It's not sports it's entertainment. If we start thinking that way we can all get involved with Fall 2009. Let the football guys take care of the game - we take care of the people. GMG
  8. In an earlier thread we talked about schedule covers...After thinking about the possiblities we: A. Really need Riley to blow the competition away, early. B. We need to fire up the Dodge Duo on as many pieces of collateral we can afford. It's a intriguing message and will at least get people curious about how the tandem is performing come this fall. C. Set up satellite season ticket office near the campus of Southlake or in their downtown square - never been there but heard about it. D. Get inside Southlake somehow someway and get that flood of beamers driving up 35 on Saturday the 12th and beyond. Sports is about entertainment, intrigue, and if you can win - fantastic! Seriously who does the mass public care about more - the tragic Dallas Cowboys and their house of laughter or the Sixburg? Sixburg won and has an amazing team and story, yet I still hear people talk just as much about the Cowboys who played their last meaningful game when I was putting the final fixings on my Thanksgiving meal (out here in Vegas!). Maximize this 2nd round of Dodgedom to our advantage - can the Southlake band launch a band day tradition for our second home game of the year? Marketing gurus unleash whether you are in school, newly graduated, a marketing friend of the program...Talk about a recipe for success - intrigue, pressure, family, an apathetic fanbase turned possessed and ready to WIN again! This is getting juicy! GMG
  9. Well the upcoming Friday the 13th looks pretty wicked! GMG
  10. How on earth did TCU get left off that list? TCU has so little in common with its mountain foes, but they do have the football program of attraction. They are also holding their own in basketball this year too. But never forget the MWC is about BYU and Utah in football and BYU, Utah and UNLV in basketball. New Mexico nudges themselves up to the basketball table but the Frogs belong in CUSA or the B12 in my opinion. GMG
  11. So I guess they really don't like LaLa and LaMo! Darn those were so easy! GMG
  12. Did you actually see Vizza being a starter this fall? Really? Am I the only one that sees Dodge's only chance of survival is to win this year - which the jury is out and there are some capital punishment fans on that jury. Riley is the only person that can save Dad's job. That is why I really enjoyed Vizza and wish him the best, but he would have been riding the bench this fall for sure. So I don't think much has changed other than it is a win win for everyone - Vizza gets to play, Riley saves the day! Mean Green win one this fall! GMG
  13. I don't think this meeting is or should happen. Let it play out and bring in Franchione if Todd doesn't win by the end of his contract. I still love going to Mean Green games and Todd and Co will not be the end of the program for me. This is coming from a fan since '86 who frankly doesn't think we will win a game in 2009. With that said I will be there having fun enjoying my team and waiting for the next coach to come on board. Honestly, I don't think it will get worse - never say never - but we are over the hump of dealing with this mess - so continue to build attendance, follow the Green, enjoy the tailgates and prepare for the turnaround in 2011. GMG Emotionally connected to the cowboys - not so much - who cares Emotionally connected to the mavs - at least they try but they won't even make the playoffs - do care and like that they fight Emotionally connected to the Mean Green - absolutely - care they are so bad - can do nothing about it but support them and will Stars - nice team that will get waxed by DE-TROIT come May. who are the rangers?
  14. Heard Beano this morning and he was talking about Texas and Alabama's hangover. Can't wait for a playoff because there would be no hangover. Everybody would be happy to be playing another game! Of course I don't believe much of what Beano says because by the end of the show he predicted Notre Dame would go 11-1 next year only losing to USC. riiiiiighhht Beano! GO MEAN GREEN!!! Beat Ball State!!!!!!!!
  15. On the radio this morning I am listening to a national show out of the east and they are talking about the demise of Notre Dame football. They were talking about the horrendous buyout they would face 15 million just to get Weiss out of South Bend. He then went on to say and then you have got to pay the new guy! Further he said "Who are you going to get?" "Who is worthy of wearing your crown?" The host broke down and said name the big time NFL players playing on Sunday that recently came out of ND. He couldn't name many and that was a testament to how ND is not what it use to be and is surely not the sexy program that can draw recruits like it use to in the past. This had me think about UNT's situation and I refuse to sift through this board these days because the holidays are a happy time in my life and all I have to do is look to Wall Street for dreaded doom and gloom news. While not ND the one question that he asked was "sit in my living room and tell me why I should not go to FL or TX and choose ND?" It triggered in my head that Dodge can still sit in kids living room across the state and sell them on the future of North Texas. We have a lot to look forward to and attainable goals as well. I mean it seems like everyone is bowl eligible this year and with the sour program we have, with a couple of more wins we could be knocking on that door too - crazy! I mean UNLV - yes tragic UNLV football was knocking on that door this year and blew it with a loss to one of the worst teams in the country in Qualcom last week! So I would be willing to toss Dodge aside IF he was having trouble getting talent to UNT. I don't think this is the case yet and hope it never will be. We are not sexy, but we can promise sexy. We are not playing for Sugar, but we can still get to party in New Orleans. We are not in a pretty house right now, but we have one of the best stadiums in the Southwest on the way. We can play in a BCS game just like Utah one day with just the right strategy. Now, I am not sure assembling terrific talent helps at all if you do not know what to do with it. But I cannot image TD has lost what it takes to assemble a winning football program. Remember what he can do with amenities and they are on the way. I would just hate to be in a situation where we let another coach go and then fail again (Willingham & Weiss). If the players stop coming then we have another story completely, but Dodge walking into a parents living room after knowing what he can do, has done and promises to do goes a long way. And don't forget the squeaky clean image he promotes from his soul. That stuff sells to parents like ice water in the desert in July. Happy Holidays everyone and Go Mean Green!!!!!
  16. I do think that the Mean Green Nation should make it a point to tailgate around the coolest rig in the nation(away games)! Park that bad boy in the Rice Lot, Troy Lot, Lamo Lot or 2 miles from Death Valley and make that the Mean Green party location! We can even put up a tip bucket to help this family pay for the gas to get that show on the road! GMG
  17. My only disagreement is that if you want to be like a big time school you need to act like one. All of these little Dodge extras remind me of Cuban's little extras to help the players feel like they chose the right University/team to play for. I want results too, but it's not the monumental changes, but a bunch of little ones that will help us right this ship. We have lost the toughness that UNT has been known for over the decades, but I am okay with the "bells and whistles" if it provides focus and has a goal in mind. Let him run this ship, and I still believe that when this team finally wins a light bulb is going to go off and we are going to be in for one heck of a ride! GMG
  18. Hi Deep. I would bet that he used some of the old system's players and their leadership to help the transition into a new system. It just seems like Dodge is using some of the old players but he seems to really be using most of his new players to plant the new system. After watching Hawaii take some time to plant a new system, I realize it takes time. June Jones system only worked well with the Colt Brennan, Davon Bess' of the world and there was a natural buildup of their skill to reach their run to the Sugar Bowl. Anyways after sitting in Fouts and in H-Town I have never seen anything like what I am watching. I am not even sure we have the right coach. However, I also know that if we switch gears now we are looking at 2 more years of gutting this system and planting a new one. I hope to see improvement in '09 and a run in 10. GMG
  19. I think at the end of the day what you have is young players playing their hardest and learning the new system. Even youngsters who play on other teams have more seasoned players to provide leadership, passion and fire. The person who said we are a JV playing a Varsity every weekend is not far off. That is why I think we get blown out. Other teams simply have better ready to play players and know the system they are working in. We have none of those elements in year 2. Gonna be year 4 before this machine takes off.
  20. My only concern is that after this year it does seem like 2 wins would be a dramatic improvement next year and as a competitor and football diehard it gets hard to think about going into a season with an expectation and hope like that. But I will and hope this is the one and only 0'fer season I ever have to endure. GMG
  21. I have absolutely loved having visiting bands in our stands (Tulsa and Troy this year). At a minimum it keeps the GB on their toes. I was thinking that maybe the GB could coordinate with the fireworks show and have some tunes lined up to play. Low and behold here comes TROY's band and I it sounded great! I was also hoping the GB was taking some notes and should have felt a little embarrassed that the visiting band decided to play traditional American greats during OUR fireworks show. Keeping this optimistic I am hopeful the GB plays some good ole American traditionals in the future and adds more cadences...I loved Troy's cadence just before kick-off. Unfortunately we got to hear it a lot. I was at the Dodger game awhile back and they had the fireworks show with piped in music. I thought, we have the best band in the land in this stadium and how cool would it be to hear them play some recognized greats before they end with the always awesome - Glory to the Green. GMG P.S. - am I the only one that wasn't that disappointed and disheartened in last night's game? The day was perfect, the defense played better, the tailgate rocked and it was Mean Green football! Just getting on the board but seeing some frustrated fans and understandably so. It was still a fun afternoon.
  22. his full time job is at buffalo wild wings and he is taking those commercials to heart! We need this ref because it's not all about the O, the 0-12 of course! GMG
  23. I'm partying like a rock star in Tijuana in my toothpaste shirt! All Hail the GREEN! GMG
  24. Either way the announcement should be coupled with a future message and I guarantee it will be an encouraging message. If it fails it will be coupled with an action plan to get the stadium built via other strategies and they will make it sound like a minor setback. If it passes a next step should accompany it along with an encouragement of getting aggressive and getting everyone involved to speed up the timetable. Either way we will feel just fine after the announcement and we can turn our attention to upsetting LAMO and turn out in force for Homecoming! GMG
  25. I am going to go on the premise that this thing fails and if it passes it will be a beautiful day. Either way all failure does is give you an opportunity to begin again - smarter. EIther way I will wake up on Saturday morning still a Mean Green diehard, still heading to Homecoming, still rooting for an upset, getting more creative about how to get this stadium built. GMG
