Heard Beano this morning and he was talking about Texas and Alabama's hangover. Can't wait for a playoff because there would be no hangover. Everybody would be happy to be playing another game! Of course I don't believe much of what Beano says because by the end of the show he predicted Notre Dame would go 11-1 next year only losing to USC. riiiiiighhht Beano! GO MEAN GREEN!!! Beat Ball State!!!!!!!!

On the radio this morning I am listening to a national show out of the east and they are talking about the demise of Notre Dame football. They were talking about the horrendous buyout they would face 15 million just to get Weiss out of South Bend. He then went on to say and then you have got to pay the new guy! Further he said "Who are you going to get?" "Who is worthy of wearing your crown?" The host broke down and said name the big time NFL players playing on Sunday that recently came out of ND. He couldn't name many and that was a testament to how ND is not what it use to be and is surely not the sexy program that can draw recruits like it use to in the past. This had me think about UNT's situation and I refuse to sift through this board these days because the holidays are a happy time in my life and all I have to do is look to Wall Street for dreaded doom and gloom news. While not ND the one question that he asked was "sit in my living room and tell me why I should not go to FL or TX and choose ND?" It triggered in my head that Dodge can still sit in kids living room across the state and sell them on the future of North Texas. We have a lot to look forward to and attainable goals as well. I mean it seems like everyone is bowl eligible this year and with the sour program we have, with a couple of more wins we could be knocking on that door too - crazy! I mean UNLV - yes tragic UNLV football was knocking on that door this year and blew it with a loss to one of the worst teams in the country in Qualcom last week! So I would be willing to toss Dodge aside IF he was having trouble getting talent to UNT. I don't think this is the case yet and hope it never will be. We are not sexy, but we can promise sexy. We are not playing for Sugar, but we can still get to party in New Orleans. We are not in a pretty house right now, but we have one of the best stadiums in the Southwest on the way. We can play in a BCS game just like Utah one day with just the right strategy. Now, I am not sure assembling terrific talent helps at all if you do not know what to do with it. But I cannot image TD has lost what it takes to assemble a winning football program. Remember what he can do with amenities and they are on the way. I would just hate to be in a situation where we let another coach go and then fail again (Willingham & Weiss). If the players stop coming then we have another story completely, but Dodge walking into a parents living room after knowing what he can do, has done and promises to do goes a long way. And don't forget the squeaky clean image he promotes from his soul. That stuff sells to parents like ice water in the desert in July. Happy Holidays everyone and Go Mean Green!!!!!

I do think that the Mean Green Nation should make it a point to tailgate around the coolest rig in the nation(away games)! Park that bad boy in the Rice Lot, Troy Lot, Lamo Lot or 2 miles from Death Valley and make that the Mean Green party location! We can even put up a tip bucket to help this family pay for the gas to get that show on the road! GMG

My only disagreement is that if you want to be like a big time school you need to act like one. All of these little Dodge extras remind me of Cuban's little extras to help the players feel like they chose the right University/team to play for. I want results too, but it's not the monumental changes, but a bunch of little ones that will help us right this ship. We have lost the toughness that UNT has been known for over the decades, but I am okay with the "bells and whistles" if it provides focus and has a goal in mind. Let him run this ship, and I still believe that when this team finally wins a light bulb is going to go off and we are going to be in for one heck of a ride! GMG

Hi Deep. I would bet that he used some of the old system's players and their leadership to help the transition into a new system. It just seems like Dodge is using some of the old players but he seems to really be using most of his new players to plant the new system. After watching Hawaii take some time to plant a new system, I realize it takes time. June Jones system only worked well with the Colt Brennan, Davon Bess' of the world and there was a natural buildup of their skill to reach their run to the Sugar Bowl. Anyways after sitting in Fouts and in H-Town I have never seen anything like what I am watching. I am not even sure we have the right coach. However, I also know that if we switch gears now we are looking at 2 more years of gutting this system and planting a new one. I hope to see improvement in '09 and a run in 10. GMG

I think at the end of the day what you have is young players playing their hardest and learning the new system. Even youngsters who play on other teams have more seasoned players to provide leadership, passion and fire. The person who said we are a JV playing a Varsity every weekend is not far off. That is why I think we get blown out. Other teams simply have better ready to play players and know the system they are working in. We have none of those elements in year 2. Gonna be year 4 before this machine takes off.

My only concern is that after this year it does seem like 2 wins would be a dramatic improvement next year and as a competitor and football diehard it gets hard to think about going into a season with an expectation and hope like that. But I will and hope this is the one and only 0'fer season I ever have to endure. GMG

My Editorial Comment On Last Night;s Game....
NM Green replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
I have absolutely loved having visiting bands in our stands (Tulsa and Troy this year). At a minimum it keeps the GB on their toes. I was thinking that maybe the GB could coordinate with the fireworks show and have some tunes lined up to play. Low and behold here comes TROY's band and I it sounded great! I was also hoping the GB was taking some notes and should have felt a little embarrassed that the visiting band decided to play traditional American greats during OUR fireworks show. Keeping this optimistic I am hopeful the GB plays some good ole American traditionals in the future and adds more cadences...I loved Troy's cadence just before kick-off. Unfortunately we got to hear it a lot. I was at the Dodger game awhile back and they had the fireworks show with piped in music. I thought, we have the best band in the land in this stadium and how cool would it be to hear them play some recognized greats before they end with the always awesome - Glory to the Green. GMG P.S. - am I the only one that wasn't that disappointed and disheartened in last night's game? The day was perfect, the defense played better, the tailgate rocked and it was Mean Green football! Just getting on the board but seeing some frustrated fans and understandably so. It was still a fun afternoon. -

his full time job is at buffalo wild wings and he is taking those commercials to heart! We need this ref because it's not all about the O, the 0-12 of course! GMG -
I'm partying like a rock star in Tijuana in my toothpaste shirt! All Hail the GREEN! GMG

Either way the announcement should be coupled with a future message and I guarantee it will be an encouraging message. If it fails it will be coupled with an action plan to get the stadium built via other strategies and they will make it sound like a minor setback. If it passes a next step should accompany it along with an encouragement of getting aggressive and getting everyone involved to speed up the timetable. Either way we will feel just fine after the announcement and we can turn our attention to upsetting LAMO and turn out in force for Homecoming! GMG
-
I am going to go on the premise that this thing fails and if it passes it will be a beautiful day. Either way all failure does is give you an opportunity to begin again - smarter. EIther way I will wake up on Saturday morning still a Mean Green diehard, still heading to Homecoming, still rooting for an upset, getting more creative about how to get this stadium built. GMG

You just threw a cold bucket of water in my face! Can you imagine 0-12! I mean it is hard to fathom how this fanbase will feel as we go to 0-7 ,0-8, 0-9, 0-10, 0-11, 0-12. I mean it has already felt like two seasons! WOW gmg! Please don't let that happen!
-
That is how I feel from a distance. I have seen a different student energy than ever before. Had we gone 0-5 when I was in school there would be nobody in that stadium, there would have been 0 tailgating (which there wasn't any anyway), you wouldn't even know we had a home game. I have also never seen a more energetic Green Brigade, so I am hopeful about this vote. We are going to go from having the worst stadium in the SW to having one of the best in a few short years! The players will follow and teh record will improve. GMG

Drc: Unt Students To Vote On Fee / Stadium Monday
NM Green replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
don't much care for vito. I don't expect a cheerleader as he is not paid to be one, but talk about a flat piece of work. in fact many of the pieces i see from him are just flat out doom and gloom. i do my best to distance myself from doom and gloom people and his work does not enthuse me. gmg -
it just went blank on me. Is anybody else watching it online and is it working for you?

It will be interesting to see. I have seen the Mean Green play Tulsa and Rice in person, LSU and FIU on the tube. This team's psyche is sooooooooooooooooooooo fragile that the second something goes wrong, like an easy touchdown or blocked punt, or fumble it's like this aura comes over them that shuts them down! That is what is so weird, because I have never seen a North Texas team fall apart even against crazy odds, and I have seen UNT as a solid D1AA. You mean to tell me that they are so ginger that they fall apart at the first sign of adversity! I have seen outmatched teams play hard through 4 quarters at A&M, in Austin, in Lubbock, in Colorado Springs, in Tempe, in Troy, in Death Valley, in Little Rock, in Boulder, in Norman, in Lafayette, in Monroe, in Waco, in New Orleans...This team looks like a high school squad going up against USC! I would love to think some things will change this week, but I don't have faith. You need strength, will, and fight to make that happen and this poor team lacks simple confidence. I sat here watching FAU and Troy thinking they are going to KILL US! Again, boys become men and I hope these young men choose to grow from this experience. Lord knows the MG Nation is undergoing something most of us have never been through before. At the end of the day if we get the stadium passed I will consider this season a success. Because if you can do that in this climate at this time in the transformation of the program, I have great hope for the future of NT football. I will see a charged up student fanbase believing in hope and for a better program down the line. That will be a much different fanbase than when I was in school 20 years ago! GMG

See what happens when they let you out of Utah! Long live Zion:) GMG

I never thought I would ever see in my 22 years as a Mean Green diehard: 1. UNT in a bowl game 2. UNT win a bowl game 3. UNT go to four consecutive bowl games 4. A 25 or whatever consecutive conference game streak by UNT 5. toothpaste green become the Mean Green color of choice 6. own a toothpaste North Texas tee shirt 7. See rice score 77 on the lean green and beat us down by 57 points 8. FIU score 42 and blow us out at home by 32 points 9. the Ragin Cajuns come into Fouts as 23 point favorite (no offense) But I also never seen a team look like a high school squad line up against a college looking team with athletes, muscle and speed. My Cajun friends you will have never seen anything like what you are about to witness on Saturday in Fouts. The name on the helmet and jersey still says North Texas, but that is where any semblence of the successful North Texas ends. Good luck to the Cajuns this season, enjoy Denton and get us while you can. Mean Green will be back one day! GMG

I have the grill fired up and am having to control myself from throwing every bit of Mean Green gear and paraphanalia I have in it. I almost want to wash this chapter of mean green life from the brain - toothpaste green and all.

The band is top notch this year and Bohemian Rhapsody is the best opening ever! Loving the Green Brigade this year! Most spirit in those students as a group in a long time if not ever. Well done! GMG

Whoooooaaaaa Middle Tennessee State!
NM Green replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Wouldn't that be something if on Sunday we wake up and sitting on top of the conference standings is the worst team in America! Of course by that time we will have been moved up the polls or down them gladly giving our spot to Idaho or Florida International! Better yet make that SMU! I will be channeling 2001 on Saturday and the beginning of another surprise in Mean Green Country! GMG -
Middle In All Black...tonight On Espn

That was a hell of a game and the Belt provided a great game for the Nation tonight. Is anyone else looking forward to that FAU Troy War that is on the horizon! FAU is going to play desperate and Troy is formidable period. This is going to be a fun race and hopefully we can snag an upset before the year is over. GMG -
