The difference with the WAC now is that the Texas schools will be out West for the Pac 10, so we are more likely to get coverage by going West this time. We were on a island out there last time. TCU's coverage should pick up too with the big boys headed to the left coast. GMG

Appears Aggies Have 72 Hours To Decide
NM Green replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I say A&M should say goodbye to the Texas schools. Filling your schedule with LSU, Bama, Florida, TN and Ark would be downright tasty. Texas A&M actually has some power here and could find themselves out of the shadows of OK and TX with this move. Gig'em! -
Where There's Smoke - Mwc Attentive To Boise Fans
NM Green replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
It's weird that I feel like the WAC may be the way to go because I have always been a Sun Belt fan, but the lack of Sun Belt prominence and growth is making me change my tune. Also did you know that the WAC is moving it's basketball tournament to Las Vegas beginning next year I believe. That is an easy destination to get in and out of. El Paso (NMSU) is easy to get in and out of. La Tech would be an easy drive. Hawaii would be a vacation every other year. Reno not too hard to get in and out of. Fresno and Idaho the only tough destinations to get to and though the power rankings may not be significant with a Boiseless WAC, the perception is HUGE. If offered again I would think we would have to consider it in full. GMG -
with how slow the bowls and ncaa roll that seems like 80 years in the future! GMG

BYU is not your typical small private school. They bring in 60K in football and fill arenas and bowl game stadiums wherever they go. They almost double the following of Baylor and travel en mass even at away games during a regular season. If they were in the Big 12 it would go something like this: Texas OU Nebraska Texas A&M BYU K State OSU Texas Tech Missouri Kansas Baylor Iowa State I also think UNT needs to begin formulating a multitude of plans, 1 expanding the SBC another a trip into CUSA, another a trip into MWC. If BSU leaves for the MWC does La Tech begin to toy with the SBC? If the MWC gets gutted does a UNM become and or NMSU become available. What if UNM, UTEP, La Tech and NMSU be lured to an SBC West. I think UTEP to MWC and NT into CUSA would be ideal. If TCU leaves why not make a ploy to continue to MWC footprint in the Metro by adding NT? Hey you have to believe it before you can be it. You also need to be prepared for anything. GMG

How about a Pit Alumni row? Keep the energy folks! GMG

I think Baylor is incredibly talented. I think UNLV felt lucky to UNI. Kansas had to feel a bit lucky getting UNI and not UNLV and the rest is history! I do think UNT has run into beasts in the tourney in the last 2 visits. BYU is a solid team great team when they click! Today KSU took them to the woodshed and that was a top 20 team! GMG

I'm very encouraged about the future. K-State was a beast that dismantled UNLV this year in Las Vegas worse than what I saw them do to us today. They are a top 10 team for a reason. This article is right on the money with trying to move up the chain. We could work for years to get up to an 8 seed and still lose like the Rebels did today. So we need to schedule decent/good teams like Baylor, Houston, UTEP, any of the top MWC 4. Let's get NMSU on the schedule again, Gonzaga, St. Mary's... Congrats Mean Green team and fans! Great year ahead!!! GMG

You know when we went dancing in 2007 it was a nice surprise to many, even some Mean Green faithful. However, building a program that has now won 2 tournament championships in 3 years is a statement. UNT has the ability to become a force in bball and the Superpit could fill up and rock next season. Now is the time to enjoy this moment and national recognition, and beginning in April we need to push our phenomenal team and accomplishment to build the fanbase to a strong level! I watch a lot of Mountain West basketball and what I saw from the Mean Green on Tuesday was special. Our team can compete with some bigger boys and we could make the Superpit a house of horror for visitors like the Pit in Albuquerque is or the Marriott Center or the Thomas & Mack. Talk about exciting times! Also beating Troy was sweet because we definitely need to compete with the Trojans in the Belt. We already have a nice rivalry with MTSU and WKU but Troy has become a bit of the BYU of the Belt - solid across the board, nationally recognized, perennial post season participants. We wrestled some of that mojo from the Trojans on Tuesday and we need to begin to plant our presence all over the Belt again. I reflect back at this Decade of Excellence and smile: Four Bowl Games 1 Bowl Win 2 NCAA Big Dance appearances All over the past 10 years - that is a nice body of work for any institution! So proud to be Mean Green! Excited about the future! GMG

Gameday Live from Denton on the grand finale of Fouts Field - win over Kansas State and to the Sugar we go! I can dream, right! GMG

I bet this game has a decent draw. You are talking about a good destination area, post holiday drama, your team in the title game, I think there will be a good contingent. Ease of access into the NT region plays a understated advantage. GMG

Everywhere I have lived I have adopted the local University. Those are the folks we must make an impression on, not the alums who don't care about the rich tradition North Texas has. People want to belong to something special. If UNT can make a true effort to help people feel like they belong they will support regardless of where they went to school or grew up. It's about inclusion, its about social networking and getting the masses involved in growing the Mean Green fandom. We will never have a large atheltic department staff, so passionate alums, casual fans, friends of the U of NT and our athletic department must work tirelessly to spread the Mean Green spirit. GMG

After the disaster in Houston (2nd in weeks, Ike then Rice)I want revenge! That was a brutal in person experience. Beat the He*ll out of rice! GMG -
La Tech uses SMU counters - 20K sounds great! La La also had K-State in their house. So imagine when we win again - 25K average! GMG Green Brigade = masterful! Great tribute to Dr. B!
-
Tell La Tech we need would love them to come and enhance the stature of the Sun Belt. The reality is they could be easily waxed by Troy and MTSU right now and we get another driveable road game. It's a win win! We now have an even more Southern footprint, bowl games in New Orleans, Orlando and Mobile. That is a sweet thought! GMG

What Was The Greatest Football Season...
NM Green replied to Side Show Joe's topic in Mean Green Football
Since 1986: 1. Our first bowl year. The loss followed by the run with the win in Idaho to get the New Orleans Bowl bid was awesome. THough we were not a great football team that year the moments such as the Miracle in the Desert and rounds of beer with every touchdown at Ellingtons made it very special. I also never thought I would see UNT in a bowl game. Bowl games were for big programs, those old SWC schools and Pac 10 schools...SO to join that company was fun and exhilarating. 2. The Bowl win year over Cincy. Most of all because our win was unexpected. It was a bit deflating ending on a loss so to win in surprising fashion was awesome! 3. Though we never had the success we expected in the 1AA playoffs, the year we were ranked number 1 and beat Texas Rice and Texas Tech was fantastic! Talk about thumping our chests and walking around with Mean Green pride that year! MY top 3 since 1986 GMG -
terrible! Alabama better not blow this!!! Roll Tide!!!!!

Congrats To Boise State: 14-0, National Champs

Is Moore a freshman? Not gonna hammer a kid who was moving through his first year as a starter. Now that Riley has a full season under his belt the expectations of his performance must rise. He strikes me as the type of kid who doesn't mind that. Now get better and deliver! GMG -
No hope on January 3rd - WOW. Nevertheless, happy new year to all and here is to another amazing decade of Mean Green fun!!! GMG

Wouldn't that be awesome to see Leach stay in the Big 12 South and take it to the Tech Admin every year:) I have never liked the Sherman hire. Didn't understand it then and there is no reason A&M should be off the college football map. Kind of like us - no reason why we should be off the Sun Belt map. Again, wherever Leach ends up he will build a winner and kids will flock to play for him. You know he will sniff out primadonnas a heck of a lot better at his next stop. gig'em! GMG!!!

God bless Mike Leach! I would hire him in a heartbeat for not letting brat players run his show! Go build it Leach! I will be rooting for you Man:) Guns UP! GMG

A marketing genius needs to join the city of Arlington. Did anyone see the tragic commercial for the City of Arlington during the Cotton Bowl Classic? Yet another reason Arlington should have never been given that gem of Stadium opportunity. If I was Jerry Jones I would immeidately send them a commercial to run during future events. Look at the class and excitement of the San Antonio commercial during the Alamo Bowl and that travesty the City of Arlington put out earlier - terrible! Rooting for Tech tonight. Leach built a beast and can't wait to see where he does it next. Welcome back to college football Texas A&M. You shall soon return to some Big 12 relevance. GUNS UP! GMG!!!

You know that is one of the juiciest 12 member lineups I have seen. We all keep wanting NMSU again but they are content in the WAC. Rotate that championship game between Orlando and Nashville and now you have destination excitement for the championship game and the bowls: Orlando, Mobile and New Orleans; Nashville, Mobile, and New Orleans. The footprint lives and grows right where it should, in the deep south. GMG

You know you rarely see the MWC programs moaning and groaning to get out of their league. Rather they have built their league into a football power that is now stronger than the Pac 10. This Mean Green fan will support and help the SBC take its' rightful place ahead of the WAC, CUSA & the MAC. We are not there yet, but I believe the SBC is ahead of the MAC and equal to CUSA right now. The WAC with Boise has the edge. But I am actually looking forward to continue building relationships with our conference mates and to travel to some away games later this year. It is our home and where we live right now. GO SBC! GO Troy! GMG
