What Was The Greatest Football Season...
NM Green replied to Side Show Joe's topic in Mean Green Football
Since 1986: 1. Our first bowl year. The loss followed by the run with the win in Idaho to get the New Orleans Bowl bid was awesome. THough we were not a great football team that year the moments such as the Miracle in the Desert and rounds of beer with every touchdown at Ellingtons made it very special. I also never thought I would see UNT in a bowl game. Bowl games were for big programs, those old SWC schools and Pac 10 schools...SO to join that company was fun and exhilarating. 2. The Bowl win year over Cincy. Most of all because our win was unexpected. It was a bit deflating ending on a loss so to win in surprising fashion was awesome! 3. Though we never had the success we expected in the 1AA playoffs, the year we were ranked number 1 and beat Texas Rice and Texas Tech was fantastic! Talk about thumping our chests and walking around with Mean Green pride that year! MY top 3 since 1986 GMG -
terrible! Alabama better not blow this!!! Roll Tide!!!!!

Congrats To Boise State: 14-0, National Champs

Is Moore a freshman? Not gonna hammer a kid who was moving through his first year as a starter. Now that Riley has a full season under his belt the expectations of his performance must rise. He strikes me as the type of kid who doesn't mind that. Now get better and deliver! GMG -
No hope on January 3rd - WOW. Nevertheless, happy new year to all and here is to another amazing decade of Mean Green fun!!! GMG

Wouldn't that be awesome to see Leach stay in the Big 12 South and take it to the Tech Admin every year:) I have never liked the Sherman hire. Didn't understand it then and there is no reason A&M should be off the college football map. Kind of like us - no reason why we should be off the Sun Belt map. Again, wherever Leach ends up he will build a winner and kids will flock to play for him. You know he will sniff out primadonnas a heck of a lot better at his next stop. gig'em! GMG!!!

God bless Mike Leach! I would hire him in a heartbeat for not letting brat players run his show! Go build it Leach! I will be rooting for you Man:) Guns UP! GMG

A marketing genius needs to join the city of Arlington. Did anyone see the tragic commercial for the City of Arlington during the Cotton Bowl Classic? Yet another reason Arlington should have never been given that gem of Stadium opportunity. If I was Jerry Jones I would immeidately send them a commercial to run during future events. Look at the class and excitement of the San Antonio commercial during the Alamo Bowl and that travesty the City of Arlington put out earlier - terrible! Rooting for Tech tonight. Leach built a beast and can't wait to see where he does it next. Welcome back to college football Texas A&M. You shall soon return to some Big 12 relevance. GUNS UP! GMG!!!

You know that is one of the juiciest 12 member lineups I have seen. We all keep wanting NMSU again but they are content in the WAC. Rotate that championship game between Orlando and Nashville and now you have destination excitement for the championship game and the bowls: Orlando, Mobile and New Orleans; Nashville, Mobile, and New Orleans. The footprint lives and grows right where it should, in the deep south. GMG

You know you rarely see the MWC programs moaning and groaning to get out of their league. Rather they have built their league into a football power that is now stronger than the Pac 10. This Mean Green fan will support and help the SBC take its' rightful place ahead of the WAC, CUSA & the MAC. We are not there yet, but I believe the SBC is ahead of the MAC and equal to CUSA right now. The WAC with Boise has the edge. But I am actually looking forward to continue building relationships with our conference mates and to travel to some away games later this year. It is our home and where we live right now. GO SBC! GO Troy! GMG

Memories Watching Cincy In Bowl In New Orleans
NM Green replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't care for rematches, but a Bama Florida rematch for the big marble could have been really fun. Roll a shed out onto the field at halftime and out pops Leach for a halftime interview and now you have a truly delicious event. I find bowl season boring but I enjoyed watching old powers like Penn State, FSU and Ohio State turn back the hands of time in this brand new decade. GMG -
Memories Watching Cincy In Bowl In New Orleans
NM Green replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
Was anyone going to beat florida tonight? I mean this is rough to watch. Not sure tcu would have wanted any part of the gator tonight. The Cinci unis are cool though. So my second prediction is that the tide will ROOOOOOOLLLLL over the horns next week. I mean if FL lost to Bama you do the math. It only takes one preparation but the Horns are getting the wrong team just like Cincy did tonight. I cannot see Bama overlooking and not being fired up for TX especially after the Ute loss last year. I feel like that devastating loss from last year sat in their gut for a full year and they will unleash on the orange. It will be much like Florida rolling over the bearcats - an unstoppable train. I mean they are chanting "urban meyer" to have something to do! Cotton Bowl becomes next BCS game and MWC gets auto bid - prediction number 203 of the New Year:) GMG -
So how bad is TCU going to rout Boise? The Pac 10 is not as good as MWC and defense spanks offense again today! Not to mention TCU has defense AND offense for the first time ever. I think TCU kills boise and I like the broncos, but be prepared to hear that tragic frog horn annoy and roar all night long! GMG

No comparison between the Oregon and OSU band. Buckeye band sharp, disciplined and sounds great! The Auburn band in the stands is one of the best, but all of those SEC programs have the college football experience down to a science. GGB
-
somebody forgot to tell the Oregon band they were not going to practice this morning but rather the Rose Bowl! They look like they are in sweats out there and not a uniform. I am about cutting edge but that is just sloppy. But hey their flags match! Love our Green Brigade but the inclusion of more Texas tunes wouldn't hurt. I go to a Dallas Cowboy bar here in Vegas and during commercials they blare God Bless Texas and other Texas greats! Makes me swell up with Texas pride:) GMG

Compared to other coaches and political figures decisions I have to ask, "what the heck did Leach do?" People who think his behavior was so aggregious have to clue me in on what he did that was so bad. If I was a program in need of an available coach who can drive a school to #1 in the land, Leach is not a bad candidate. There are so many sleazy coaches and leaders out there and Leach made awkward decisions at times but never to the point of harm or blasphemy. Leach will be sought after and land in a program that embraces his quirky ways as long as he wins. He has already proved that beyond reasonable doubt by making Tech into a national power. Also, last I looked Tech had money pouring into its athletic coffers with this madman at the helm, so some university out there is savoring the thought of bringing this tragic example of human being and coach right to their sideline. Watch the pigskin fly, watch the pockets empty out, watch the stadium fill, watch the ranking rise, watch the program soar! GUNS UP! Good Luck Leach! Go Mean Green!!!

If we are not in Mobile or New Orleans this will be our bowl game! It reminds me of those games at the end of Hawaii's season where the Warriors played Wisconsin, Washington and Michigan State. They went to the islands for a pre-bowl game and to Hawaii fan it was a nice carrot at the end of the season stick. Think of how great it would be to end our reign in Fouts with a win over the program that built it's legacy starting with a win over us back in the 80's. Make no doubt about it, this is our bowl game and will be a bigger opponent than we will play in the bowl (I can glass overflowit right? It's New Years!) So nut it up, get on the marketing trail and let's make this bowl game meaningful! It's up to us and we must be those gracious hosts that send them back to the little apple with a buttkicking! GMG P.S. - my first Vegas New Years - it rocked!

Let me see - get rid of one whining student who is riding daddy's coat tails and has put CJ in an interesting light or Get rid of the man who made you completely relevant in the college football world. Seems like an easy decision to me. Guns UP!

The whole thing is a bit "drama queen!" Good gosh all you have to do is look at Joe Pa and ask him how he has somehow survived the 150 years of college football stress. Imagine if Urban was having trying to win at South Carolina, Mississippi State or Northwestern. Me thinks he doesn't want to coach without his Robin urrrrr Tebo. health first but imagine how stressful life is when you AREN'T following your passion. Love old school Joe Pa! GMG

I am watching interviews of Hauck right now and already like him. Sanford was a nice guy in a Wade sort of way, but he couldn't get it done. Not crushed that Franchione not locked back up in the MWC just in case. GMG

I just think it's great that all three metroplex teams had winning seasons and bowl wins this decade! That speaks volumes about where Metro football is today versus where it was in the 90's and even the 80's. Many towns don't get that kind of entertainment at every turn. Congrats to SMU and good luck TCU! They get a big stage in a few days. Mean Green will be back and 2010 will be great! Either we win or we get change and hope - keep the faith Mean Green and support our alma mater, our kids, our traditions, and and our great name! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!

Where Will Stockstill Coach Next Year?
NM Green replied to Side Show Joe's topic in Mean Green Football
He has built a beast to compete with the Trojans - good for our league. We need to become the third head of this SBC monster. Bring it in 2010! GMG -
After the Cowboy win I don't think nothing is impossible! Awesome win for the Belt! Boy do we have some work to do! Troy and MTSU are the measuring sticks in this league and we must get better fast to compete for beignets in 2010. WOW I was impressed and loved watching Southerm Miss take it on the chin after they have given it to many of our brethren and us before. GMG

I was thinking about that Hawaii choice too and it almost worked out for Junes, but it didn't! Jones is so selfish in my opinion. He picked Hawaii because it is well known that he loves Hawaii and plans to return - heck I do to every other day too! (Denton Honolulu Denton Honolulu). But Hawaii didn't hold up their end of the bargain. They needed to win yesterday to go to their bowl and create a classic matchup - Hawaii versus June Jones. June is not loved in Hawaii anymore. He will be sitting in a fairly empty stadium with some splattering of blue and red in the stands. The rest will be gold and powder blue because I am confident UCLA will take the other spot. I am surprised another WAC team isn't going, but maybe Boise to PHX, Idaho to Boise and Nevada to where? Jones ego is monstrous and he selected Hawaii for himself and the hope that his buddy coaching in Hawaii could beat WI. It didn't happen so the Stang fans will have to go far to see their team in their first bowl game since the 80's. At least they are in a bowl - good for them. GMG

Disgusting Display Of Favoritism By The Big 12...
NM Green replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Would texas beat oregon? All I know is that this rendition of the longhorns is weak - they are not a great team and head to head against boise, tcu and cincy i am not convinced texas is better. texas will be toyed with in pasadena! GMG -
Attention Green Gang: '09 Home Attendance Avg Was
NM Green replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
I refuse to give up on this program. I live out of town and traveled in for more games this year than I had in the past. Devastating loss after devastating loss has not soured me because the team is only one aspect of the Mean Green Experience. Last game I stayed in Denton and hung out in the square like it was an away game and it was a blast! I plan on doing that more often next fall. I stopped going to away games because I couldn't take the devastation, but next year I plan on making some roadies again because they are part of the Mean Green Experience, and next year is different! Our motto should be EVERY GAME MATTERS! The team might even consider a rally cry in that spirit. Everything about Mean Green football will change next year, period - either we win or we have a new Mean Green philosophy, staff and experience coming in the front door as the current regime exits out the back. Home or Away in 2010 Every Game Matters - it's like our own little bcs run to win or for change:) GMG
