  1. I don't, but I do know enough about his ability to inspire. I have heard it and seen it transpire. I don't fall for rhetoric and those politicians that can move the masses and then not execute. People either believe or don't believe and Canales had the players believing in a few short weeks. He had me believing watching games on the internet and hearing his passion for this opportunity. Forgive me for wanting to give the guy a shot. I trust my intuition and would never speak so convincingly of someone I did not trust. He is not our coach. I get that. I will be there rooting for my Mean Green always. I will also be cheering for the university who gives Mike a shot. I have been seized shots in my life and am grateful for those who trusted in me. If he lines up against us and beats us down the line, I will congratulate him. It will not have been Mike Canales who made the questionable decision. I would have loved to see him recruit his staff, team and continue to inspire a team, fanbase and community. Good for the program who gives him that shot because he is ready. He is urgent. He will give it his all, which is all I want from my coach. DM may do that. Canales will do that. Stay tuned. gmg
  2. uhhhhh you are ULL, and the team with all the resources that should be banging on the door of the MWC when TCU leaves just let the next great thing go. Wait no, they booted him onto the street and said you are not worthy. If the Green jesus comes in and does what everyone proclaims DM is gonna do in 5 years, why not beat them to the punch. That is why I would look at MC now. If North Texas will get better and will have to be contended with down the line, you better desire to win now. Bring in the coach who wants nothing more than to give the sleeping giant a sedative. gomcgmg
  3. I like the fans that thing football wins grow on trees. what a reality! pass the pipe. GO MC. gmg
  4. He also performed consistently at a high level for a few games, oh yeah and almost took down a bowl bound Big 12 in the Fouts Field Finale. Heal well Riley. Stay Thirsty young man. gmg
  5. I am confident it will be well scripted and probably handled in Baltimore Colt (in deep of the night) fashion. Maybe one day we will bring back the town halls and Mean Green gathering forums. gmg
  6. The only thing better would to see our nationally acclaimed stud running back follow along and burn up the "win" mill. It is coming and this is going to better than a emmy award winning drama. Go MC. GMG
  7. I'm a fan! Go Ragin Cajuns. This is going to get juicy. Mike is ready and I wish him all the success in the world. GMG
  8. Canales may be 7 years younger (only) but seems like a world apart in connectivity with the players. With all due respect I have no idea how DM will connect because he is not here yet, but I liked what I saw with Canales and when I trust and believe in someone, I will run through a mountain for them. We had him and now we don't. DM - you are on clock - let's see if you can bring it like Canales did. gmg
  9. I guess you had to be there. Dude was OC for the #2 ranked team in the country a few years back. He has been groomed for a head coaching position for decades now. He is young, inspiring and our team played hard and solid for him in 5 short weeks - not 5 years. If I were a program in need of an inspirational leader who has some skins on the wall and is ready to make the next step and prove his worth - I would look at Canales. Then I would schedule North Texas:) gmg
  10. I sure hope this coach believes in and breathes communication better than this administration does. If he is indeed the Green Jesus and he is loud positive communicative and proud - he might just clash with the people running this show in little D. The fact Canales never had a shot at this gig yet we were told he would, then all Canales did was lay it out without any hope at a real shot - stinks from a leadership point of view. Again I do not plan on waiting 3 years to be good. Hit the Urgency button, sell to me, sell to my community, go get a staff that will execute and deliver and build my trust and loyalty. You do that DM you've got me. You decide to pusyfoot around and build this thing slowly - you will not keep me interested in this regime. Another poster said it perfectly. I am a Texan. I have high standards and require drive, passion, energy and urgency. Walk in the door with that my friend. Some people think UNT operates under a moldy rock and requires approval and direction from SMU. I don't. I have seeing other programs snag high profile coaches in much worse places than the rich grounds of the DFW metroplex. UNT is a plum opportunity for the person who wants it. I can't stand Tony Romo at times because I feel he doesn't realize the opportunity he sits in at the qb of the Dallas Cowboys. The coach of UNT has a dream opportunity and it is a great gig - one that must be seized with zeal, energy, appreciation, excitement and urgency. This goes for the AD position, the President position, any position at my fine Alma Mater. UNT does not play second fiddle to anyone and does not have to. So bring it, yesterday and make it happen. My timer has started - execute, execute, execute. GMG gmg
  11. I don't have to do anything. If DM gets me excited and shows me tangible results, I will be there. Look, I live in Las Vegas and Bobby Haute from Montana has come in re-energized a fanbase. It did not show itself in wins this year as they ended with the same record as the Mean Green. But as a casual supporter I never like the previous guy. I reluctantly went to a game or two when I couldn't make it in for Mean Green games, but this year in the same situation I eagerly headed to Sam Boyd on Saturday nights. Same records different inspirations. The ball is in DM's court to inspire me much like it was in MC's court to build my trust. I thought MC was playing out the hand and he went above and beyond to get me to believe. We will see what DM does and I wish him well. Speak to me as an a alum who has followed this program for 24 years and tell me how you plan to win, why you want to be part of this community, your goals, what you need from me...then I will decide if I support you. I will always support my University but there is one salesperson here and he doesn't live in Las Vegas. By the way I can only imagine what Bobby H. is going to be able to do with his own players in year 2 and beyond. He is young, passionate, a realist, and ready to ignite a dormant fanbase. Sounds familiar.
  12. I would love to see 35 - 40 points for the Mean Green every game like we began seeing under Canales as HC. Mix that with a defense and you have a power in the making. I just loved watching disciplined football, methodical at points with big play potential. Dislike him or not that is what Canales had us playing over the last month. DM's O coordinator will have to come in an repeat that type of experience for me to "buy in." If he does build that on both sides of the ball I will be excited and on board. I just don't follow with blind faith. I need to see tangible improvements and energy. Life is short and I liked how Urgent Canales was for our program. I just see DM coming in expecting 3 years to get this trainwreck back on track. Not excited about another 1000 plus days of Mean Green build to a 3 win, then 5 win, then 7, win then 9 win season. I wish like heck we would see a DM and Canales combo but i just don't see it happening. I will support Coach C wherever he goes because he will build a winner. I will support him and look forward to watching him develop young men for life and lift a trophy. Hope it isn't a competitor but if it is I will still root for MC. Meanwhile let the rebuilding again - 8 years of it by the time this is all said and done. Urgent.
  13. All I know is that you would not have had this outrage had you hired: Canales Fran Kragthorpe This guy and only this guy would bring this much frustration and angst. You don't want this from an alum - don't hire a guy from a losing program and expect him to decorate our new palace with W's. Yet you did. So more old school North Texas is what we are dealt and it will be interesting to see it unfold. We are back at below ground zero and we just didn't have to go there - go green go white.
  14. Different day and age ISU fan. I worry that this coach is not going to connect with his players. That is what Canales was doing so beautifully here at the end. People that think this guy has multiple years to turn this around are smoking something. The wait is over ladies and gentlemen. This team under Canales would have competed and beat some of the same players on the schedule this year, next year. Throw in allowing him the freedom to recruit a staff and bring in his players and dare I say we are bowling next year because everybody is working towards the goal of getting better. Oh yeah a fanbase recharged and supporting at all costs because we hear and see inspiration played out on Saturday afternoons and evenings. We had all of that and now DM has to come in and build the trust with players and fans at lightening speed. No honeymoon here DM. You do not have years to get us to respectability and back into bowls. We are on the cusp of that today while you were living in the swamp.
  15. 81 you are not alone. No matter how much this person dismisses anyone concerned, disturbed and flat out unenthusiastic about this hire, know that you are not the only one that expected more. 1. I wanted coach C because he wanted us and proved he could inspire the program and fanbase. 2. If not coach C I expected a name that would provide that splash we were promised. 3. I never thought I would see a gentleman with a losing record from a lackluster program be "the One" to lead us onto the national stage I am disgusted inside but calm. I know there is nothing we can do at this point but continue to tailgate and create memories with Mean Green friends. In 4 years maybe some of the above 3 goals will be realized. You are not dismissed. You are not alone. Question. Question. Question. Long live the Green Tea Party Express.
  16. I love all of these folks saying - just get over it. Sit down and be quiet. The decision is made and nothing will bring Canales back into this role. But to say just take it is not how it gets done in this country. Bring on the Green Tea Party Express. GMG
  17. Yeah this is pretty disappointing. So many hopes for this team and this opportunity, then one presents itself that the greater UNT Community can rally behind and participate in and we botch it. I will wait and see what happens with Dan but I have many questions about my University. I invest a lot of time, emotional energy and resources to support this team. The fact that I am so unenthused with this hire is simply bizarre. Poetic justice would be having Canales end up in Cajun land and coming back and kicking our arse. I would get a big smile and cheer him on. Dan, sir, you have much work to do. Please introduce yourself and get to work as hard as my interim head coach has done for the past 5 weeks. If you have any hesitation about how much work you have ahead of you, please decline this offer and do not come to DFW.
  18. That is why I say let them apply and we can consider them if they bring enough to the conference at that time. We may not even be in the SBC when this happens.
  19. Just glad to see them excited about making a big time splash. Wish I felt the same with our looming coaching announcement.
  20. He is ready to coach again. Coaches don't all of a sudden lose that passion unless you are Jimmy Johnson. Now you get to beat up on D1A programs which are quite beatable in Las Cruces, Moscow, San Jose and Logan. Your toughest foe lives in a place called Ruston. You have a natural rival 30 miles up the road. This situation is plum and the only one juicier lives in Denton where you get slightly tougher foes, a manic hungry fanbase, and a new house to decorate with W's. Fran cannot lose either way and he will build a power wherever he lands. People that enjoy the stage do not like being on it. Still holding out faith that my Mean Green don't screw this up. gmg
  21. Yep my cousins in from SA for the holidays are giddy over Coker and the Wac. You throw in TSU and Fran and ladies and gentlemen we are quickly on our way to being passed by. Good ole UNT. God help us get a leadership with some vision, passion and goals for the bigger time.
  22. Thanks Frog Fan! I am hoping for Canales first and Fran second. If they bring the beater in am going to root for the jersey and that is it. My support for the U will not change one way or the other. It won't go up and it won't go down. It will be just another day at North Texas. Am I am the only one who wants to see a TCU vs Oregon matchup? I think the D vs O battle would be awesome! I will say that my contribution and and support of the Mean Green will go up if Canales or Fran get the job. Either way I am instantly a fan of wherever Canales lands - Texas State should really reach out and grab him. GMG
  23. With all due respect to our Pony fan I am confident we would not only compete with SMU for that MWC slot, but beat them out of it too. Those Western programs that will rue the conference roost know SMU and UNT by more than name. They understand what UNT brings to the table and what SMU does. It is clearly slanted in the favor of UNT on all fronts. Football - great coach SMU - new coach and stadium UNT Basketball - SMU = aweful - Tournament champions and tourney appearances = UNT Enrollment - SMU (worse than TCU from a fanbase perspective) - UNT unbridled potential History with MWC - SMU lackluster (not TCU)- UNT familiarity from our 1AA and Big West days Location - SMU - great - UNT - great I just think we beat out SMU for an invite. It is SMU's last stand to show superiority over UNT which is a mirage in this new day and age. UNT has so much to offer the MWC, Big East or Big 12. CUSA is a cute conference but I am not impressed. Go bold and make the mountaintop the baseline. Our 10 year plan should have us strategically positioned to enter a conference with Tech, Baylor, A&M and Texas, wherever they lie in 2020. GMG
  24. Trust your intuition, and mine is saying this is going to be an ugly hire. I am one of the biggest RV supporters on this board but if this is the direction we go and it fails I would be willing to search for a new AD. I am sorry - I would rather have Fran or Leach or Leavitt or Canales or Rodriguez or Fulmer... Why we would not go out and get these 2 points covered: 1. Div 1A coaching experience 2. Winning Div 1A coaching experience is beyond me. I feel like the balloon is losing air big time. GMG
  25. I must say that i am bummed that we lost in LA on Saturday, mostly because I find myself cheering for Canales to get a fair shot at this gig. I want someone who wants UNT - playing and simple. Canales has won me over in a short period of time becuase i see what our program has always lacked - a big dose of Mean Green pride. Canales will never let us think we shouldn't be competing with the Tech's and Aggies of the world or playing second fiddle to TCU and SMU. I want that spirit and fire from our next coach and i can only imagine what Canales could do surrounded by his own people and recruits. Having Canales show up in my living room to encourage me to entrust my kid to him for a few years would be mesmorizing. You can just tell Canales teaches life skills and principles that help young men become stronger. Heck look at what he has done with our squad with some focused practices and encouragement. I use to be a monster Fran guy and love that Leach put Tech on the map, but if I were sitting down listening to the 3 talk about the future of my program I am confident who would put forth the most passion for my University. Canales will be an amazing head coach and I can only hope he gets a fair shot to be mine. GMG
