So it’s Jared right? He can make it happen. Meaning he has the power to assemble Talons, Maniacs and Green Brigade Leadership this month to plan for the creation and execution of the DATCU Energy Experience this fall. I would think our band would learn from other bands that out excite them. But they don’t. They don’t copy them, try offshoot efforts of them…I see nuances which can be cool but I’m talking about a full in game production transformation. Which needs to include: Pregame March. Pregame field sets. Stand music sets. Chant alignment at the quarters and kickoff. Big 3rd quarter close. There is power in numbers and their efforts could ignite the alumni side. We need coordinated chants like TSU’s eat em up eat em up go cats go or something like that. I also miss Fky Like An Eagle Go Green Go White… We used to have an awesome 3rd down Green Brigade set always played at the right time and only on that down. I’m not meaning to come down on the GB because this is a leadership focus. But the time is now. Season is over. All amazing performances have terrifically designed practices, rituals and coordinated forces behind them. Jared may even consider a Fan Council to help with idea generation, program research, connection support…give council members a 2 year term and they collaborate monthly with feedback to the athletic board regularly. That would be 6-7 Council meetings to spawn community, dormant alumni, and student engagement before opening day. Let’s get some things going then we can talk about that cool Rangerette type crew for the stands down the line. See TSU, Alabama, Auburn most programs in the SEC. First things first. GMG

My LSU buddies were talking about what we witnessed on Friday 24 hours later. As the story of DM kept unfolding on espn my friends marveled at what we had just seen. They had never ever seen that before. Didn’t think it was possible. To walk into a top tier college football game after 2 weeks of prep and ball out. It was a fun watch. He stated, “North Texas would not die.” I’ll take that fight every day. And yes I did think we were going to get blown out. I invited two alums for the Friday afternoon affair and they couldn’t be bothered. Showed zero interest. But I took 2 SEC diehards and there they were having fun supporting our Mean Green. I’m not giddy about the loss. Rather I believe there will be lots of fireworks and cannon fodder in a few short months in DATCU. Analyze everything. Every win every loss every missed opportunity every rarity. GMG

EM knows quarterback traits when he sees them. In this I very much trust! EM is also a can of Red Bull and gets really excited easily. Putting all this together I think EM is really excited about year 3. He’s been saying this for 2 years now. He sees the promise of the season to come. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun in Denton this fall. GMG

I’ve watched a lot of bowl games too and have enjoyed most of them. The playoffs were in the bottom interest tier so for, maybe that changes this weekend. Programs who lost their quarterback didn’t do well. They struggled mightily which doesn’t bode well for us. But that’s okay because I’m watching the bowl games differently too. An unexpected byproduct of this is that the guys playing are playing hard and having fun. It’s so freaking refreshing. They may be playing for their next school or for next year, but they are playing. And most importantly having fun. Something missing from most college football talk these days. GMG

I know we spew a lot of you know what at Denton not caring, but have we consistently outreached throughout the year? Our community. Our potential fans. Nothing is given. It must be earned 365 days a year not just basketball and football and soccer and softball season. In addition to uniform pics, birthday announcements, how about some community pics: new alliance announcements (this can be expanded beyond Denton), volunteer efforts - players visiting schools, hospitals, assisted living facilities…I would love to see these great connective photos. The media will never share them but we are the media. Blast our outreach efforts often loud and proud. They will get shared and celebrated on social media. It’s why SMU has so few fans in Dallas. There is no connection to the city and people of the community. Their fans are alums and some of highland park. I’ve never seen SMU do a Hispanic night, a teachers appreciation day…they could have a highland park high school day and bump their attendance - they may. In Dallas these college programs need to run their marketing and promotions departments like a pro team and none of us do. GMG

I’m glad it worked out for the Pirates. Because that scoop and score was legit. Highway robbery averted. They are relentless. In Denton they just kept coming. Good for their fanbase and for the AAC. GMG

When we are not playing them, I love watching Army play. Their 4th down soul crushing makes. The way they sniff the 1st down stick. Infuriating and frustrating for opposing teams. Their competition sans Navy and Notre Dame look shell-shocked. You look up and it’s the 4th quarter and you’re down by two touchdowns. Monken is a great coach and Army is going to be good for awhile. They did with the Vanderbilt Georgia Tech game which was actually a trophy they played for many years ago. My suggestion. The Silver Reel because weren’t both programs featured in Necessary Roughness? The Silver Reel could sit on the sidelines with winner hoisting it up alongside the First Responders trophy. 🏆 Good chance we end up in a league with TSU and anytime we battle, that trophy with engraved scores could make an appearance. Yeah but the players don’t have to build a team and get them to play together. Players have to execute, but coaches have infinitely more responsibility and should get paid. Just as athletes should get paid. I fault neither of them - biatch on. I know us fans are. GMG

They are supposed to be building another stadium where Aloha Stadium was, but Hawaii politics guarantees it will be terribly delayed like 2028 or later. This is making it rough to recruit to Hawaii. I’m not sold on Timmy Chang as a coach completely. He provided amazing memories as a player but the Rainbow Warriors need to get bowling again. Beat TSU GMG

I guess few saw the five overtime slugfest in Honolulu. Oh well I did and it was a blast of a game. Spartans roaring back for Coach Niumatalolo who lost his father last week. A native Hawaiian who played for UH, took his team to the Arizona Memorial for remembrance. Battling it out against a team traveling over 4,600 miles, further than any team this season including that game in Ireland 🇮🇪. That bounce in field goal to send the game into OT as the 4th quarter expired was awesome. A team building, bringing a new stadium to our league, a team seeking consecutive bowl wins after some dire years. Yeah I was one of the few that watched it. Love the storylines and shots of my old island home. It was historic. The most OT’s in bowl history Oh yeah and our conference is 3-1 in the bowl challenge. American rising. GMG

True. It doesn’t matter to anyone outside that school. But did you see NIU storm the field to celebrate the 4th down crushing sack of the Fresno quarterback to end the game? Followed by the lifting of the potato mascot into the air? Loved it for those dudes. Hard work paid off with a dramatic win. After learning our bowl destination my Dallas SEC diehards said they wanted to go to the game. So we’ll have the pre fun and post fun time on the 3rd. They attended the Boise Bowl and Cal game too. They are college football 🏈 LSU season ticket holder junkies who look forward to a fun day. I’m in the minority in this thread but I’m glad we play bowl games. I don’t need to see NIU or Fresno again this season but I’m glad it happened. Beat Texas State! GMG

I love bowl week and we finally got a great game in Boise. What a fun year for NIU. A win over Notre Dame and double overtime win to end the year. They showed some stones on those 2 drives in overtime. Love their style of play. Wish they were a slightly better fit for the American. They are Midwest hearty at our level. A solid G5. I’ve teetered back and forth about our game, swinging from we’ll get blown out with no Morris, to let’s do this. Get this bowl win in January 2025. My hope comes from our battle testing. We played some solid teams and played them fair to well. Army was strong when we got them, Tulane was legit until the end, San Antonio got hot when we got them, same with ECU. Memphis was Memphis. We beat the SBC and MWC. I don’t know. The SBC seems a bit shakier in ‘24 and we were grilled all season. We may be just as good as TSU and surprise. Viva the American. GMG

I’m really not sure how to feel about this whole playoff thing. Just one persons opinion. 1. I was less interested in the regular season big boy matchups. Knowing they could just win their league and “get in.” Or they would be such a draw that they would get in anyway. 2. The teams I would have enjoyed seen were not there. Ole Miss, South Carolina and Alabama are teams I would have enjoyed seen this weekend. The right big teams were there even Indiana because they were an interesting story. 3. I feel this whole playoff drama feels manufactured. I don’t care about who moves on like I do in March madness or even some pro leagues. This playoff felt like baseball playoffs where if your team is there you are interested and there. If not you are onto the next sport. Do I really need to see Texas and Penn State play again? I really don’t care much. And Boise and Arizona State I could really care less about seeing especially after watching SMU Indiana and Clemson this weekend. I didn’t watch Tennessee but if I had they would join them too. All flawed un-interesting teams making up this playoff thing. 4. This is the weirdest to me. I’m football saturated. Weird because I will watch any bowl game and have some interest stewing. We’re talking Ohio vs Monroe in the Bahamas kind of interest stirring. Why do I care about random bowls with 6-6 or 5-7 teams more than I do about who moves on in the playoff? I’m not saturated with the bowls but could care less about the playoffs. I can’t figure me and this out. All I know is that I am excited for some midweek football to come. 5. I was listening to the SMU broadcast on the ticket and they said there were diehard Nittany Lions fans who travel to happy valley every week that sat this one out because it was too cold. In this story I heard football saturation, like I have with this whole production. The 1AA playoffs seem so much more interesting with now with weeks to get excited for Montana State and The Bison in Frisco. Ready to get back to bowl season. GMG

I would have rather watched Alabama in Southbend or in Happy Valley. Neither of those teams should have been there. I really can’t wait for the split. Clemson Florida State North Carolina and Miami need to get going on up out of the ACC so these first round games are more interesting. We are! GMG

All these people trying to shorten the already short football season is wild to me. As a soccer fan I dig a 9 month season. Even the 3 months feels eternal before week zero. My approach this post season is just have fun. Have a blast of a tailgate with friends. meet some cool TSU peeps. Enjoy the game whatever it yields.
