We (Athletics) don't own the snake pit. It is not an option. We (Athletics) own a perfectly good building right across the street from the facility where the kids go to get treatment, where they go to lift weights, and next door to their academic center. There is a certain bridge that is being constructed which makes this a manageable walk from Mozart if needed. Both basketball coaches are super excited about this, and yes we (the committee) already have almost all of the money to do both right now. (Practice facility is covered with current commitments and jumbotron is getting close) If anyone would like to contribute to this project they can PM me on this board, or they can call Dan Johnston. We (our committee which Ernie is the chair) are taking five year pledges or lump sum gifts. Be part of the solution. This facility is going to be first class all of the way. And yes, it is connected to the indoor practice facility for golf (which by the way Ernies says is better than any facility any of his kids went to which include Arizona State, Ok. State, SMU and Texas) and the womens softball offices which have indoor batting facilities. David This post has been promoted to an article

Thank you Ernie for all that you do. How do I get a hold of you and send in my 50, 100, 500, 1000 etc. donation to help you build this (renovate an existing facility) on campus. Instead of talking about where or how it should be done, or criticise everything that we do or have, I would actually like to help with this project.

Aston buyout, press conference link and some leftovers
flyonthewall replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
The buyout from Charlotte was $100,000.00. She paid half and some donors were recruited to pay the other half. -
I agree, I am just saying that a certain person gets asked all of the time. "are you guys planning on playing baseball" Not a requirement. But certainly would not hurt.

The problem with the super pit is athletics does not "own it" This is why we had to play the exhibition game in the old arena last year. And it is also why we can't just raise some money and fix the scoreboard, etc. If something is scheduled in the pit and the floor has to come down. Our kids are relegated to practicing in the PEB, which Johnny or Karen have to make a reservation for. There have been talks about trying to get the rec department to "give us back" the old snake pit, rather than building a practice facility. Big politics around campus on this issue, so we just make due. As far a baseball, there are high level discussions going on all the time about it among large donors. We do need baseball back and it will help us get into a better conference. The field will be right across the street from Apogee which is why that bare land has not been turned into a parking lot. In the words of Don Lovelace, who wrote the check for the softball field upgrade. "you still have to eat an elephant one bite at a time" David

Tone eeeEEEEH. Surely you haven't gotten fired from that high toned job already!. I know you have better things to do than worry about where the next job for jedi knight Todd Dodge will be. I am amazed at these guys who won't confess they thought Todd was a great hire at the time. And Silver Eagle. Come by my tailgate next year and we can personally debate Rick Villarreal and wether or not he is the greatest athletic director this university has ever had. On a lighter note, How did we buy our domain name last time Tone eeeeEEEEEH? David

A loser is a person who who can't spell and post on the internet "loose lose". A winner is a person who gets a brand new softball facility built, locker rooms remodeled in the pit, dedicated court for volleyball, academic center for athletes, oh wait, A BRAND SPANKING NEW FOOTBALL STADIUM. I have never thought that R.V was an "idiot". If you think that Dr. B. did not have her hands on this sweet deal that Shanice got, you are crazy.

Save your money on useless presidential campaigns. You are buying me a jagermeister bomb this year. name='TheTastyGreek' timestamp='1299106280' post='556232'] I've already got the money set aside for Hot Springs. I can spend it on going to watch NT basketball, or I can donate it to the Larry Craig presidential campaign. Which is money better spent? Any suggestions?

Glad you could find a creative way to bash Bret. If you have a lot of freshmen on the list doesn't that imply that freshmen are getting alot of playing time. Surprised you didn't work in "UNT has been 6 and blah blah under dodge and 8 and blah blah over the last 4 years, all the while working out at the Darrel R. Dickey practice fields behind the athletic center that Mackinvale helped to build." Nice article and nice research.....not.

As I have told you before, you should be attending the games now. These kids need our support. And btw. did anyone catch Curtis "quick draw" Shaw on outside the lines this morning? He is the jerk that threw me out of that game for "no reason at all" See you Tuesday Tony. David

My father is a rice graduate and played on the football team that won the 1957 southwest conference championship. Normally he is a pretty nice guy but this week he a a crotchity old SOB who has no idea what he is talking about. Since my mother, my wife, my brother in law and I are all North Texas Grads, a win this week would be really nice. We went to the game in Houston as a family and that went real well for me................ So, I am really looking forward to this week. Kevin Hodges from Sanger (now lives in Argyle) who is a EVP for Access First Capital Bank in Denton is a Rice grad. His daughter Kelsey is a budding freshman star on our soccer team. Man we need a win.

I have been working on a project at west point for the last couple of months. The cheapest most reliable way I have found to get there is to fly AA. The cost has been around 260 round trip to White Plains Westchester county airport. (HPN) This airport is quick in and easy out, compared to all of the places I travel to. You fly from DFW to Chicago, then take an American eagle flight to White Plains. It is a 25 to 35 minute drive to Manhatten south, depending on traffic. The drive up to the USMA (West Point) is about 25 to 30 minutes through a scenic mountain range. There is also a train (subway) straight up to the garrison from NYC. The guys that are working on the site say that the Newburgh flights are dicey, as there are only a few in there a day and you can get stuck. I have been staying at the Sheraton Tarrytown in White plains. It is very nice and runs about 125 a night which is reasonable. For those who want to stay in NYC, I think the train is an interesting option. The airline tickets if you choose this option in to Newark are usually cheaper than the other two airports. All being said, everyone is really going to enjoy West Point. The architecture and history are unbelievable. It is definatly something to see.

Mandy will have the tent set up somewhere in tailgaiting area. She usually provides some snacks to eat and some malted beverage. It would be nice if you are there to bring your own supply of malted beverage. There will be a few fans and many sets of players parents. See you at the tent and look forward to meeting you. David

Yesterday at the Don January golf event, Don announced that his grandson was playing football for North Texas. Also, Dr. Battaille mentioned breaking ground on the stadium in January, to open 2011 season.

Rv tried to do a joint venture with the city 6 or 7 years ago when they got here. They were playing their friday night games at fouts. They refused to work with us and built an 18 million dollar facility north of town on loop 288 for their three high schools to play in.

Seriously, What is not getting done? New athletic center? Done. Indoor driving range for golf? done New softball field? done New soccer field? done New turf on a field that we knew was being torn down? done New tennis courts? done Dedicated academic center for athletes? done The only piece of the puzzle is the new football stadium. Do you think that millions of dollars and time would be spent on all of the things you have seen if that weren't happening? Rick, Hank, Dr. B. Mandy, Lee Jackson, Gayle Strange, C. Dan Smith Unt Flyer, etc. cannot suit up and play football, but as far as giving our student athletes everything they need to compete on a national level, all of these people are doing everything they can with the resources provided them. May I personally deliver you a pledge card for the new stadium? Please?

Gomeangreen Blog Catches Up With Kenny Evans
flyonthewall replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Define flunky? I have never flunked anything. Let met personally apologize for ever calling you out on that. Those were stress filled times for all of us concerning the state of affairs, much like they are now. I do not think you are Kenny Evans. If I am pathetic for supporting this program with my time, money and all of my heart then yes I am pathetic. I will admit that I learned a lot a few years back on what you should and should not say publicly, and I disagree with your view on our athletic department then and now. And by the way, we launched the public part of our stadium campaign on Saturday. May I personally deliver you a pledge card? -
Aren't you supposed to be studying?

Firm Officially Picked To Build Football Stadium
flyonthewall replied to LoveMG's topic in Mean Green Football
If 20,000 alums would donate $1,000.00, or 40,000 would donate $500.00 then we would have the $20,000,000 million needed to go with the larger donations already in hand and this thing would be paid for. But as my grandfather always said "crap in one hand and wish in the other and see which one fills up faster" -
Wish I were there, I could go for the hat trick on getting thrown out of games.......................

Simple, some times in this great land of ours, where great things are happening, people get paid when they don't necessarily deserve to. Say for instance, Stefan Marberry, or Brett Vito. According to Websters necessary condition 1. : a proposition whose falsity assures the falsity of another; therefore, professional leads to paid, even though the first word professional would not be an accurate portrayal of the situation. Why not put the great story about Rich Young, the marine taking care of his mother who was sick and who graduated on the front page, and we got a scholly back in basketball, and bury this POS story which includes another shot at the football program on page four? Which is more newsworthy?
