So if Followill were hired tomorrow to do play by play for the Knicks would he suddenly become national and professional? It's not where you work, it's the quality of your work. Coop is older and Followill is up and coming. They're both very talented. I guess some people just don't consider announcers "professional" unless they have that old school NYC voice. I have to admit that I'm kind of guilty of preferring that old school voice myself when it comes to professional baseball. But then again that's probably really only for nostalgia purposes, since that's the kind of voice I generally heard in that venue as a kid.

Why is he an "SMU guy"? He was working at The Ticket at the time, and The Ticket was doing SMU games. Probably not something he could turn down doing for two seasons.

You're right, I don't recall exactly how long his relatively short gig was, but I think it was right after Mercer left. I do recall that he did a great job. During his blond hair to the shoulder days I believe.

They've changed their name to UT-North America? I'm definitely not in a panic, because I kind of expected it from them with their inflated egos and all that hijacked Permanent Fund money. Wonder if it'll help them in recruiting?

Alonzo says he is going to try out for the nfl.....
foutsrouts replied to Andrew's topic in Mean Green Basketball
His odds may have (or not) improved a bit if he had pulled an Awasome and played a little football this year. Might have helped his credibility as well as his experience level. If he's capable of playing NFL ball just a few months from now, he certainly would have been able to help out the football team this year at DE or TE. Good luck. -
Great news. Quite a bit better than I thought. I would have guessed LD at Second Team, but the Middle game put him over the top. Nice way to go out for a couple of Seniors.

No, I simply disagreed with your notion that it's perfectly rational for students to avoid games in which they could possibly get their dipstick wet. A pancho, plastic undies, or Glad Wrap should do the trick.

TCU does have history, but 1 Heisman for them, 7 Bowl games for us, and I sure hope that we don't have 30,000 weirdos on campus. Geez....we got enough putdowns as it is.

I'm not going to TOTALLY base student involvement this season on that last pathetic turnout, but I do think it has gotten to the point that Rawlins and the administration need to seriously get involved somehow in the attendance issue. I don't know: memo the prof''s, call an emergency meeting, involve all levels in formulating a strategy, just figure out something new and creative. I really don't think we can expect Coach Mac to be in charge of marketing. He has plenty on his plate as it is.

I'm really not for continuing to play the top of the line SEC teams on a regular basis. Those games have just been too painful. We could do just about as well financially and exposure wise playing the Missouri's, Iowa's, Colorado's, Purdue's, and Arizona's of the world, and hopefully avoid that very high probability of total annihilation. For regional reasons I'm on board with Texas, TAMU, and Okie State periodically, and even Oklahoma every decade plus or so, but the perennial monsters of the SEC are getting old. At least until we show signs of becoming at least a semi-monster ourselves.

Yes, despite all the complaining going on around here in regard to attendance, it's pretty clear that virtually all of our programs are on the upswing. Very refreshing post. Now let's all do what we can to ensure that this budding success translates into increased interest in and around Denton. Starting with the BB programs this week.

To the CITY OF DENTON & UNT STUDENTS
foutsrouts replied to DallasGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I think I'll say what I want son. Calling people dumb for giving you their opinion on the NOT so cold weather is what I would call dumb. Maybe you should keep your essays in the classroom. Preferably back home in Ohio. -

You thought that was cold? I grew up on the Gulf Coast and I didn't think that weather had any resemblance to cold. I even took off my plastic jacket between rain squalls. Sorry about your penis btw. -
We'll probably travel better than the ponies. Oops! Guess I better shutup after what I saw yesterday.

To the CITY OF DENTON & UNT STUDENTS

Wow. Pretty broad brush there, but also a pretty good chunk of truth. To throw in a generalization myself, unless a person absolutely hates sports, anyone who totally shuns their school's athletic programs clearly has serious self-esteem issues. Really kind of sad. -
QB Scotty Young Transfer from Tech?
foutsrouts replied to MeanMag's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Would be a great way to start getting local guys (and fans) interested in UNT. Amazing how his stats are almost identical his Junior and Senior years. -
Hmmm...if this is true, I guess our game with WKU may have been for the fourth Bowl spot. Oh well.

Then how have we managed an all-time winning record? Attendance math?

Shhhhhhhhhhhh!! We don't want a gang of our Polo Shirted rivals to run off with him!

Caught the second half of Odoh's game last night and was very impressed with his movement. He runs like a deer, works his butt off, and has great acceleration for a big man. He appeared to be sick and was coughing every chance he got, but still managed to come up with 6/6/3 in the 15 minutes or so that I saw him. Showed great elevation on a jam near the end of the game. He does appear to be a little raw offensively, but I suspect that his offensive game will improve once he gets away from the hully gully JC scene and has the benefit of D1 coaching, He looked a little thinner than I thought, but you could tell that he is very strong, and looked like he may have a bit of a mean streak in him after a bad foul call. His coach looked and acted like Bobby Knight on meth, and at one time chided Odoh for not blocking out by screaming out something like "you block out like that and you call yourself a big North Texas signee?" All and all I think he's going to be a great addition. We're going to have one Hell of an intimidating shot blocking front line next year with Odoh standing next to Mitchell.

How Hilter reacted to the end of the UT/TAMU rivalry
foutsrouts replied to untcampbell's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm almost honored that we were even mentioned. Unfortunately, it sounds like Hitler thinks even less of us as a rival than either Sam or San. -
Hill's playing at Cedar Valley tonight at 7:00 if anyone in the area is interested. I plan on trying to catch the second half.

What we have been battling for decades
foutsrouts replied to untjim1995's topic in Mean Green Football
Kind of a sad state of affairs if this is the case. Especially when you consider that we are going on 1000 games in 100 years, while one of them is going on 10 games in 1 year (at the lowest level), and the other has never played a single football game at the highest level. I don't mind scheduling them, but I'd rather not be looking to join up with them for the time being. I'm damned tired of waiting, but I prefer that we see how things shake out over the next 3-5 years before starting a new Southland. -
We're still not really playing as a cohesive D1 unit, but the talent is certainly there. Nice improvement tonight, and I hope that everyone's role is starting to get a little more established now. I hate to say that C. Jones is not the point guard of our future, but for now I like Alzee at the 1 and Jones at the 2. Hope they both get 30 minutes at the tourney to see what they can do.

Think I saw that the Sunday game will be watchable. Have to check back to see where.
