We signed 5 guys 6'4" to 6'6'. Regardless, I thought yesterday was signing day for FB not BB.

Yes, I'm really excited about the way this OL is being put together. It is the first thing you shoot for when you want to build a team to compete with the big boys. Starting the young guys last year is starting to look better and better as time passes. Now we just need a playmaker or two to step up over the coming months and we should really have something going on that side of the ball.

Another factor to consider is that a lot of these small school kids don't benefit from the quality coaching, facilities, motivational big city adoration, and big-time publicity that many of the big school kids receive. Give those kids a year or two to mature in a quality D-1 system, and walla, some of those 2 and 3 stars suddenly turn into 3 and 4 stars. The trick is obviously to find the guys with the right God-given talents, and the positive coachable attitudes who have only scratched the surface of their potential. At least with some of these "not so highly starred" recruits, I'm betting that Mac's evaluation skills will turn out to be right on the money.

Yes, I would have been happier in regard to our immediate future if we would had grabbed those DL's that Arky State took from Blinn. A quality WR transfer wouldn't have hurt either. Otherwise, nice class.

Head south for the Winter and visit the BB board.

Did pinky do a last second commitment switch from U.P. to E.P. or did he just grab the wrong hat?

UNT lands Houston area DB Jamal Marshall
foutsrouts replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I read an article the other day that stated that the average "listed" height of an NFL receiver is right at 6'1", while the average cornerback is "listed" at a tad under 5'11". Guess that's not a huge difference , except when you have someone like 6'5" Plaxico Burress going up against a 5'9' corner. Regardless, a talented 6'3" corner is a great weapon to have when your facing one of the bigguns. -
Hmmm....probably wouldn't have been my top three picks since they're all in areas of need. Even more so if we have more than minor injury issues at those three positions. Oh well, what do I know.

UNT lands Houston area DB Jamal Marshall

Never heard the Ft. Bend County area referred to as East Texas. Didn't make All-District but headed to professional football? Hope his coach knows what he's talking about, because that would certainly be a major under the radar steal. Certainly a position of need. Welcome aboard! -
North Texas Class of 2011
foutsrouts replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
Yes, all you have to do to see that high school accolades are often highly overrated, is to scan the rosters of NFL teams and see the huge numbers of FCS and Division 2 players listed. Some were casualties of sorts, but most of those as 18 year olds weren't wanted by any FBS teams. This is obviously where a coaches experience and evaluation skills come in to play, and from what I've seen so far Mac appears to be doing a good job of grabbing some pretty good "under the radar" talent. Of course that's not to say that I wouldn't want to see a half dozen 4 star players in the mix every year. -
No doubt that this is going to be a challenging game. Middle hung tough the whole game with Vandy, and Vandy blew out ranked Marquette, while 3 of their 5 losses were in OT to top 15 teams. Hope we have a huge student turnout for this one, and that TM can stay out of foul trouble.

WBB: Arkansas State (1/28/12)

Nice win, but I don't understand the 4:00 scheduling. We would have stayed to watch if it had started shortly after the men's game. -
What they are saying about UNT's Tony Mitchell
foutsrouts replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I wish we would stop talking about this for now. He will do what he does, but I think the excellent lottery pick potential in 2013 should keep him around for another season of development to his offensive game. At least I really hope that is how it plays out. Going deep into the tourney next year could even see him as the number one pick. Please stay. -
Would be interesting if we could see the REAL recruiting budgets, but I guess that only comes in the afterlife. Somehow I think there's a school in Dallas County that would likely still be nationally ranked in that category.

I'm OK with that philosophy also. At least as long as we don't start teabagging each other and all that stuff.

Don't we need a Bottom Ten thread for the sake of fairness?

Coppell DB looks to get playing time as a UNT freshman
foutsrouts replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Good get! Since we don't appear to be going the JC DB route at this point, he looks like an excellent pickup. http://dallasnews.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=114285 -
No excuses for these two guys, but I know for a fact that some schools try and route their star athletes to "athletic friendly" professors whenever possible. Maybe an area where we have room for improvement.

"HKS also did the new Cowboys Stadium, the American Airlines Center and TCU's recent stadium renovation" And of course they also neglected to mention Apogee.

For those who have never been there, last chance to attend the old dump this Saturday against SFA. I've been there many times but don't think I'll make the send off. Definitely not a big UTA fan, but it's kind of sad in a strange sort of way. Think I'll try to see if I can make the grand opening of the new one on 2/1 against UTSA. It's free to the public.

Can't find the stats yet either, but who the Hell is Antwan Cathey who apparently has taken over the boards lead from Odoh? Dennis Rodman on steroids? Gotta be a typo. http://www.njcaa.org/sports_stats.cfm?sid=4&stat_type=i&gender=m&divid=1&slid=2&seasonselect=556&report_id=3760&requesttimeout=500

Breaking news -- Chris Jones, Jordan Williams ineligible
foutsrouts replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Damn! I could see one academic casualty, but both our second and third best players? Ridiculous! Sure it's their fault, but we need to look at our monitoring system. Did they not go to class or what? -
Yes. His plan is for it to span the highway and hook up with UNT-Dallas South, which was formerly known as Cedar Valley.
