  1. No way. It only takes 2 or 3 OT's who still got their legs and hands to have a good shot at whipping up on the kids in a flag game, Of course the Oldtimers need a serious QB who still has the arm to get the ball to 'em. Mitch, Scott, Bron, Jordan, Bakula; where are you?
  2. What is the definition of these new "ass kicking" young fans anyway? The one's who leave at halftime or the one's who never show up? Just kidding. I would never say that because we've got a lot of great student support these days, and I suspect that it will only get better from here on out. On the other hand, since a generation gap conflict seems to be emerging around here, maybe there should be a newly themed GMG.com flag football game with this new "ass kicking generation" going against the "Oldtimer" generation? Make it between long time posting 20th century grads. vs. long time posting 21st century grads. Might be fun, as long as the right ground rules are set up to keep ringers out of the game.
  3. So if the past is passe, what shall we talk about for the next two months? Helmets specifically or uniforms in general?
  4. LA Tech, LA Monroe, Arky State, Idaho.....
  5. Thanks for the info. I was sitting in the north endzone at the Texas game when we were robbed, but was unaware that something similar had happened up in Arkyland on the other side of the ball nearly two decades previous. I didn't start following NT until the late 70's when I was still a kid, but so many don't realize that we had some serious football going on around Denton back in the latter parts of the 50's, 60's, and 70's. That is why we were probably one or two big seasons away from SWC membership. With just a little more winning and publicity, that membership likely would've had a high probability of success regardless of the serial backstabbers down to our south.
  6. Hope it's true, but top 80 would be amazing with all the defensive question marks as well as relatively unproven WR's and RB's. If the WR's and RBs come through, I expect us to be a pretty damn good offensive team, but the defensive side of the ball is still one big question mark for me.
  7. It seems pretty iffy to me whether or not this move will turn out to be financially worthwhile for smu and Houston, but I suspect their major motivation is in the hope that moving up a peg (or at least a partial peg) will improve their chances of landing a spot in the Big 12 at some point. Of couse they're going to have to quickly win big in the money sports, hope their new conference doesn't fall apart, and regularly fill up their stadiums for there to be much of a chance of this happening. I suspect that is going to be a tall order for SMU in particular. Football only probably would have been their best scenario IMO.
  8. "The Decision" Part Deux?
  9. I'm one of the few people I know under or around the age of 50 who still gets a paper thrown on his porch every morning. I used to read both local papers cover to cover starting when I was in early grade school, but now I pretty much only study the sports page and scan everything else for something interesting. Kinda sad, but the demise of the daily paper began happening well before the masses became addicted to the internet. I guess the Times Herald's closure back in '91 was the beginning of the end.
  10. But I bet you were there for the occasion. Now I know how the term "holder" originated at smu.
  11. I doubt many of the old guard Belt schools would be very happy either if three schools with virtually zero football history suddenly were added to the mix. I'm very happy to be in the new conference, but I have to admit that the addition of the three football newbies did dampen my enthusiasm a bit. Don't get the love for FIU over us, since they have very little history themselves and their only success has been over the last two seasons. Guess we'll just have to beat the old CUSA members a few times to get their respect.
  12. I believe UT recently did a one for one with Central Florida, but I suspect that was mainly for recruiting purposes. Speaking of Central Florida, they seem to play a FCS game pretty much every year, and for those who want to ditch the SBC teams entirely, what would you think about doing something more along those lines to (hopefully) pick up some easy W's? I'm not advocating that personally because I would probably be more open to hosting an FBS Belt team every once in a while instead, but the FCS route for easy home wins hasn't seemed to harm Central Florida much.
  13. I'm not sure I totally agree with that, since TCU has played five 1AA games along with a bunch of smu since '06. It's almost like half (with a one game exception) of their OOC schedule in recent years has been against guaranteed win opponents. A big dose of a mostly bad Baylor team hasn't hurt their record much either.
  14. I'm not going to take the time to read all of your ridiculously long posts, much less spend all day correcting the never ending erroneous statements, so I'll just mention the above statement that I happened to notice since it is clearly wrong. Tulsa and Rice were 11-3 and 10-3 respectively that year, so our schedule was obviously more difficult. Btw, don't they have any kind of activities to keep you busy in your institution? You have just got to be confined somewhere, because no one in their right mind would devote their days and nights to cluttering the message board of a school in which they have no affiliation. Ooops! Think I just hit the nail on the head. I do appreciate the continual NT-Denton reference though. It's really kinda catchy, and it certainly clarifies that we are not just a one campus university.
  15. I have to agree. I vote that those three letters should not be listed consecutively in a thread title on this board until the next cheating scandal hits the news wires, or until they actually definitively commit to show up for a game with us in a Safeway parking lot or otherwise. Just my humble opinion of course.
  16. I don't think there's really a concrete yes/no answer to the question. I think we just need to see how it goes, and if an opening pops up on our schedule as well as the schedules of an Arky State or a LaLa/Monroe team, then I think we should consider going for it. It would be insane to say at this point that a game against an "old" SBC foe would be a likely win, but I'm guessing that most would agree that we have expectations/hopes that this will be the case a couple of years from now as we settle into CUSA. It's not like we would be playing a FCS team, and every one of those FBS W's are going to be crucial as we try and move up the food chain. Hell, I wouldn't even mind to see a NMSU or Idaho team come visit Denton if they're still playing at this level a couple of years down the road. I think we're only talking about an occasional game, so It's not like it would necessarily be an every year or even every two year kind of thing.
  17. For once you're right. No one but a complete idiot or a natural born cheater would say or even insinuate such a claim. Did you get booted from North Texas, or is this just a really bad boyfriend night? I mean this seriously, because the bitterness you're showing toward the flagship of the UNT System is beyond belief.
  18. Over the last three seasons they have won 23 games, and exactly 4 of those wins were against teams with winning records, while 2 of the wins were against FCS competition. If they start winning games with regularity against winning teams they can start bragging, but for now I'm not overly impressed.
  19. Or maybe it was because smu wasn't allowed to compete at ANY level for years. That doesn't really do a whole lot for the old win column now does it. Btw, that big victory over Northwestern State last year was quite impressive, and since your history is clearly lacking, we haven't played a down of 1AA (FCS) football in this century. Did you even beat anyone last season with a winning record other than the luck out win against TCU? Me thinks not. Quite the definition of a powerhouse.
  20. True, and if we are so lowly and his smu is such a powerhouse, then why have we won more games than they have in this century?
  21. Looks like we just picked up a chunk of Louisiana as well.
  22. I like Appalachian State, but personally I'm not going to cast my vote for ANY move ups from FCS period. I feel that way for purely selfish reasons, because the more that join the club the more that it dilutes the top level of college football. Somehow I think that dilution cannot be a good thing for us down the road.
  23. Those FT numbers are pretty distressing. Hate for that to continue and result in his being pulled from games during crunch time. Sure hope that is a top priority project for him this Summer.
