I suspect stronger than CUSA with all the bottom feeders that USA has this year. Hope the SBC and USA get to face off in two bowls this year to help settle the question.

(Exhib) East Central University (11/1/12)
foutsrouts replied to CMJ's topic in Mean Green Basketball
The student turnout was less than I was expecting. Hopefully they're saving themselves up for Saturday. I would guess we had 3,134 last night. -
I'm not really worried about the rebounding, but based on watching both the scrimmage and the exhibition, outside shooting is a bit of a concern to me at this point. On the other hand JWill showed improved range, and Alzee, Holmen, and Walton all showed what they're capable of last season. Sure hope that area shows some improvement against Creighton.

"I’m obviously really high on the Mean Green and really think they are a legit Sweet 16 contender if their current roster stays in place as it looks now." Nice! That's the most optimistic statement that I've read thus far.

That crossed my mind also. Next Friday is a big game for a lot of people. -
Johnnie's getting it done at LSU!

It's almost as if it's personal. Pure speculation of course.

Joe Paterno's widow moving to Denton...

Sure hope she's not dating any of their coordinators. -
They could end up HAVING to give him a shot. On the other hand, they would probably bypass him for Dodson, or more likely rip off McNulty's red shirt. With the exception of the Middle game, kudos to our OL for putting off that decision thus far.

Not too much talk on the board about the game tonight. Exhibition or not, I Hope we get a good crowd for this one. The only home game we have until UTA on the 28th is Cameron, and Cameron is 15 days off. We need to send 'em off to Creighton in style. -

About time they got a new station. The signal from the old one maybe stretched a full mile from campus.- 1 reply

Exactly, and considering the way that the QB position was handled last season, it does make one think. But to tell ya the truth, my main gripe is that we are making zero effort to groom our second team guy for duty in case of injury. It just makes no sense to me at all. A series or two in the LSU, TSU, or Middle games would have done no harm.

Me be there.

That 27k has got to be ridiculously inflated. A next door neighbor of mine had UH season tickets during that time period, and since he was always looking for someone to go with him, he took me to a couple of dozen Cougar games in the Dome. Unless they were playing someone like UT, A&M, or TT, there couldn't have been more than 5k at many of those games. I doubt they made enough in gate receipts to pay for the air conditioning.

I guess he could get lucky and find the perfect situation at somewhere like UTSA, but serious PT at the FBS level might be difficult to find considering all the splinters he has collected around here the last couple of years. Then again, I guess it's possible that we have not given him a fair chance to show what he can do in a game situation. Either way, I hope it works out.

Monday afternoon hoops notes (UNT loses one for 2-4 weeks)

Well that sux. Sure hope that the knee issue isn't worse than advertised. Guess the appeal situation is now finally moot. -
Tony only got votes, so he'll have to show them on the court that they underestimated him. Two of our opponents have first teamers. http://www.freep.com/article/20121029/SPORTS06/121029067/trey-burke-preseason-all-america-american-team-college-basketball-ap

There is a lot of complaining about Thompson
foutsrouts replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
We've got three quality backs splitting time on the field, so send Jimmerson or Brown out there to take over for Chancellor. As desperate as we are for playmakers, why not give it a shot? We need something to shake things up offensively. -
Playcalling is why we suck today
foutsrouts replied to UNTstormchaser's topic in Mean Green Football
If every game we can convince the defense that our opponent is KState, I have to agree with that. Four T/O's to zero didn't exactly help, but the bottom line is that our defense really stunk it up today. -
I have to admit that I question some of our on the field decisions. Why not kick the field goal with the wind when down 17-0? I'm usually a "go for it guy", but we needed some points, and if Olen booted it out of the endzone on the kickoff, a three and out would have put us back in the game. At least at that point. Oh, does anyone else have a problem with us NEVER giving some snaps to our second team QB? There has been plenty of opportunities for that this year, and we are one ankle sprain away from putting in a guy with almost zero experience. Sorry if I missed an Ozzy insertion there in the second half, but I just couldn't watch every snap of this one.

NCAA teams you won't want to face in March (Tony Mention)
foutsrouts replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Beat me to it. Never been fond of "mid-major", but it sounds better than "low-major". At least he didn't mention Missouri. -
Patton was second team All-SWAC. He's really an enigma to me at this point, and I'm not quite sure what to expect. Hopefully his shot has improved considerably since his Grambling days.

My brother and I are considering making a road trip run up there. He's got in laws in Ponca City, so we would be killing two birds with one stone. It would be great to be able to hang around the land of corn and catch the NIT games on the way back. Anyone have any clues off hand as to the Creighton ticket situation? I won't know if we're going until late next week, and have yet to do any DD on the subject.

What will UNT's record be in the final 5 games?
foutsrouts replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
We lost to the third ranked team in the country on the road, but we played them even statistically. All the remaining games are winnable, so I'm saying we win the next three and split the final two. Tiebreakers will determine our bowl destination.
