SI predicts NT to play Texas State...Please NO!
foutsrouts replied to SouthBendGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I REALLY don't want Texas State. It might be fun in some ways, but I'm ready for a shot at an AQ name. Depending on the outcome of the conference championship scenario, beating a big name school is likely our only chance at cracking the Top 25 for the first time since the 70's. I'd be surprised if we got more than a couple of votes at 10-3 with a bowl victory over Texas State. -
Derek Thompson...an elephant in the room?
foutsrouts replied to meangreener's topic in Mean Green Football
I sure hope so, but if anything DT has been a steady leader at running the show, and it's hard to predict how relative virgins at this level are going to perform in their first season as a starter. Having a steady DT (and special teams) along with an excellent defense has gotten us where we are IMO, and if next year's defense drops back a step, I suspect that our new QB will be called upon to open things up a bit which can be dangerous for a newbie. We shall see, but I guess I'm more concerned with UTEP at the moment. -

I'm afraid the QB position next year is going to be an absolute wildcard. We don't even know who it'll be, much less how well they'll perform. QB and Chancellor are our big losses on that side of the ball, and hopefully the other losses will at least be close to replaceable. The D is a more difficult story. Oh, and as far as DT is concerned, we're lucky to have him. -
This thread temporarily made me think that I consumed a lot more than a couple of glasses of wine tonight.

Mac says they will wear the black uni's for the UTEP game!

Unless it was an illusion, I've never seen our defense so quick and attacking. I love being green, but hey, whatever works and motivates the players for the time being. -

Yes, I have to be honest and say that our offense is still a little on the iffy side IMO. It's not usually all that relevant to "take stuff out," but if you take that Jimmerson TD run out, we really didn't run the ball very effectively at all on Thursday. Of course we did play it conservatively with the 12 point lead, so that probably made us predictable enough to cut down on our rushing yardage for the game.

At most. That's ugliness. Especially since they were playing a close game on a nice day in a game that was effectively their last chance at bowl eligibility.
-
If we finish well I'd be shocked if recruiting doesn't takeoff from here. Especially if we can beat a respected team in a bowl game.
-
Yeah, I'd love for us to host that game. I'm guessing tiebreakers are similar to division champion tiebreakers?
-
Is our Tulsa game time still TBD? That start time could be important, since I'd love to have us as the only team knowing what we're playing for that weekend. Rice vs.Tulane starts at 2:00, and I hope our Tulsa game starts afterwards.

Two Lanes offense sux. Looks like they are finally being exposed.
-
Great stuff.
-
Two on the road before Baylor, so 3-9 isn't out of the question. Maybe they'll schedule us now? On the other hand probably not.
-
I agree. Number 8 SEC would at least have a name, but a number 5 AAC could end up being not the most exciting opponent. Even though I'd love to play in Dallas, we've still gotta do our best to win every game in front of us.

Ex-Plainsmen Abbe helping lead Mean Green resurgence
foutsrouts replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Excellent write-up by a frequent poster! Sure hope Abbe gets a serious look at the next level. His quickness for a guy his size begs for it. -
That move took a little conservatism off of Mac's label. I love it.
-
Those are pretty much my thoughts. If we are able to host the CUSA Championship game we could get closer.
-
Worried that they might bring the cartel with them to sit behind our bench as a move of desperation?
-
Realistically (with assumptions), if Rice and NT win out, with Tulane only losing to Rice resulting in a 3 way tie, ECU needs to lose to both Tulsa and Marshall for us to get in. Of course Middle has to win out too.
-
Unless something really strange happens, that looks correct to me, since Rice played the weakest cross-divisional teams and Tulane beat E. Carolina. We REALLY need FAU to step up tomorrow. With their weak remaining schedule (S. Miss, NMSU, FIU) to finish the season, FAU would actually have a chance of bowl eligibility as motivation if they can beat Tulane. Go FAU!

Yeah, our defensive future is starting to shape up better than many thought. Hell, with our future OL, RB's, and emerging receivers, our offensive future (and special teams) isn't looking too bad down the road either. Ah, screw that thought for now. We've still got FIVE games left to play with this team.
-
Yes, I'll give Ohio a pat on the back, but we're better than anyone we've played this year other than (possibly) Georgia. Strong game tonight.
-
Very efficient and well coached game down the stretch. The usual conservatism early on, but we made sure that the final score was on our side when it mattered. Great job D + Jimm in particular.

Replace the word "stumbled" with "whipped," and that article would make more sense. I still remember Rice players being extremely pissed in a bad way back in '88 when we beat them as a 1AA team, so this win is extremely satisfying. Let us follow through with the next three plus.
