  1. Of course QB's were no different than RB's in the olden days. It was open season on them. That being said, slide rules and such have been around a while though.
  2. I was with you on that. Not saying that I was happy with the team's performance at that point in time, but if it weren't for the assistant issues (mainly Flannigan), and his own personal issues, I wasn't against giving him a little more time. But if "ifs and buts".....
  3. Hard to disagree with that assessment. "Flashy" is not exactly how I would term Macs offensive philosophy. Btw, since most chose DW in this poll, what are his weaknesses? I've heard a lot about his strengths, but nothing negative to account for his having offers only from Montana and NT. Considering that he played HS ball only a few miles from some of the biggest programs in the country, I just have to wonder why the lack of interest? Just one of those guys who slipped through the cracks? TIA.
  4. Don't want to leave Brandon Byrd out of the mix. He may have been a bit of a blue collar workhorse kinda guy, but he sure stayed healthy and made some big runs for us down the stretch of the season. Very nice career.
  5. This year he's going to end up close to top 40 in passing yards, close to or in the top 25 in completion percentage, and likely top 60 in passing efficiency, so his stats aren't exactly all bad. His efficiency rating was obviously brought down by his TD/interception ratio, and I think a bit of his lack of TD production this year (and for his career) can be attributed to our style of offense. We do tend to want to punch the ball in once we hit the red zone. On the other hand his career interceptions do stand out, but I think they're less than one per game which isn't horrible.
  6. I'm guessing that Vizza sure did sling 'em per game played.
  7. Gracias to you both! I have an hour to burn so I think I'll catch the first half right now.
  8. Nothing like a little honesty.
  9. I could be wrong, but I don't remember Ohio, Tulane, or San Antonio being on national TV, so he must have done pretty well this year. Other than an occasional OOC money game, nationally televised games for us seemed to be pretty rare in The Belt, so I have no idea how well he performed in those games in previous years. Probably not great since we weren't great.
  10. We even pounded on Georgia pretty good. We no doubt had a few of their guys limping into SEC play.
  11. Very true. It may be a slight stretch, but I do think that he also increased enthusiasm for the program, and some of that enthusiasm actually lingered through the pain and suffering of his failed tenure. I would bet that quite a few who jumped on our bowl bandwagon this year were initially hooked when he was hired. I just hope we get the carryover into Apogee next season.
  12. "Midterm junior college transfer Josh Greer and sophomore Dajon Williams are expected to battle to replace Thompson when spring practice begins in a few weeks." Not even a mention of BB or McNulty? Hmmm....
  13. I think all the guys mentioned above have a shot. Other than Abbe, their primary limitation seems to be height. That can certainly be overcome with speed and quickness among other things.
  14. Let us also not forget that Brett was the only writer to predict that we wouldn't cover the UNLV spread.
  15. Yeah, I'd say a thousand to fifteen hundred. Most of those on the west side seemed to be NT'ers or casual football fans off the street. We walked over there for awhile in the 3rd quarter, and you really had to view the Mean Green Nation from that vantage point to totally take it all in. Awesome.
  16. Yeah, the key is to hook them to the Mean Green while they're young. The younger the better. Young alums become older alums, and older alums become, well, dead.
  17. I thought Ball State was pretty pleasant too. We were obviously much better than all of our other victory opponents with the exception of Rice.
  18. Definite HOF'er to me. If it were the Hall of Athleticism maybe not, but the leader of a 9-4 NT bowl victory team has fame written all over him. Helluva performance yesterday from the second leading passer in school history.
  19. Very proud of The Green Nation. Attendance numbers aren't far off and we made a VERY impressive showing. To those of us who have been around the scene for awhile, I think we are FINALLY seeing the turning of the worm. The sky is the limit. Great job Mac & Co.!!
  20. Be careful in regard to scalpers. I know someone who got stuck with counterfeits there for TX/OU. This one obviously isn't quite as enticing for the ripoff artists though.
  21. I agree that the comment is a little over the top, and I was pretty much always a TD skeptic. Say worst performing football coach or something along those lines, but no need to get mean toward a guy who simply was in over his head.
  22. Smu has enough trouble getting a legit 5k to their own on campus stadium, so I kind of doubt that will happen. Not sure if I'd want them there anyway. I'll take some Frog fans though if they are so inclined.
  23. Our Metroplex area game attendance record is 45,923 against the Aggies at TX Stadium in '97, so I'm guessing we smash the record on Wednesday with 45,924. Looks like a beautiful day for some Mean Green football.
  24. Thanks for the updates. Great to see that many of the guys still chasing the dream.
