  1. I for one am not really going to jump on the wholesale firing bandwagon at the moment, because there is no way in hell that anyone of note will be fired here during the season IMO. That possibility is still most likely a couple of months away at best. As far as coaching decisions and such go, all is fair game in that arena as far as I'm concerned. The stubbornness and general unwillingness to change and adapt has gotten beyond ridiculous. I still have dwindling hope for a halfway decent season, but that is only because I tend to be an eternal optimist.
  2. Mississippians 55 Iowans 6
  3. This game could very well get uglier than Iowa, especially considering USM's bump up in overall team speed. I get tired of saying it, but I don't think we can beat anybody without an offense capable of scoring a boatload of points, and it's certainly not configured for that at the moment. I may not even show for Portland if nothing changes.
  4. If he decides to sign the entire senior class at Iowa City High next February he will still be our coach next fall. He owns us.
  5. Nice. We're all over the freaking Metroplex, and if we could only win with some kind of consistency this giant just might wake up. Frustrating.
  6. Except that Mac has become accustomed to losing quite a bit for a large part of his career. It's only a guess, but I would bet that Mac probably has only glanced at this board since last season, and for the most part has turned a blind eye toward it after seeing the majority opinion around here. Nobody wants to spend too much time seeing themselves bashed.
  7. No doubt, unless both the defense and McCarney's QB evaluation criteria wake up from the dead. We get blown out this week with the same ole same ole and I officially give up.
  8. Thank you Brett. I hope a question to that effect is actually allowed to be presented to McCarney tonight but I have my doubts.
  9. LSU has around 31,000 students in Baton Rouge and A&M is now bigger than Texas.
  10. Yeah, I ate lunch with my Baylor grad. mother today, and the first thing she said was that "North Texas needs to get rid of that coach!" Armageddon approaches.
  11. I agree with that in principle, especially on the defensive line, but I also think we should be putting the best upperclassmen on the field in the defensive back 7 which I think we often are not. Wallace got his chance at MLB yesterday and he looked the part, and why isn't Sed Ellis out there more? I haven't seen the participation report yet, but we need our best tacklers out there. I think we are missing Buyers more than many expected. Whitfield has skills, but he tends to get burned way to often, so I'm not sure what the solution is with our corners.
  12. DD actually could stealth recruit. DM only stealth recruits in Iowa.
  13. I still don't think McCarney goes away at 0-12 unless an old buddy or someone offers him a coordinator job in Iowa or in some place where he seriously wants to be. Barring unforeseen events, he's too proud (and smart) to just give up and walk off into the sunset leaving millions on his contract unless he's REALLY unhappy here. I just can't see us buying him out any time soon either regardless of our record. We're in a serious bind here, and the only way out of that bind is for McCarney to suddenly have a coaching epiphany, or for him to have a very good reason to walk away such as health, family, or that dream coordinator position. At least that's how I see it.
  14. Except that McCarney would likely find a clone of himself in Iowa and hire him.
  15. Mac can't turn it around until he joins the modern world of college football, and that ain't likely to happen. God help us.
  16. Sadly we all care or we wouldn't be here, but the caring is fading fast. His line of BS just isn't working anymore.
  17. He certainly won't be honest and say that "we're smaller and slower than when I got here."
  18. His best buddy certainly is. Six figures straight in his pocket courtesy of you know who. Half of that would certainly buy a boatload of Grey Goose.
  19. So sorry that I decided to miss out on the 800+ mile drive up to that lovefest.
  20. I hear ya, but McNulty could lead us to zero points the rest of the way, and I feel confident that Mac would still be here next fall. And he knows it too.
  21. Very true, and "private schools" also wouldn't exist without government funding via grants, tax exemptions, financial aid etc., so in many ways there really is no such thing as a private university. I do really wish we could find a way to up that endowment in a big way, because unfortunately that plays a big part in university ratings nationwide. For whatever that is worth.
  22. No way. That complication of Mac's playbook would require a year of intense study before our QB's could implement it.
  23. Assuming that the score ends up a blowout as predicted, the only positive about this game is that those who haven't been screaming about our QB situation will likely wake up and scream. Not that Mr. McStubborn will listen of course.
  24. Sounds reasonable. Have you ever compared pictures of the two side by side at the age of 21?
  25. Probably the 3rd team sympathy theory.
