If we want to avoid the appearance or reality of bigotry, why not also bring in the 100's of thousands of African refugees who are almost continuously the victims of sectarian violence and ethnic cleansing? Serious question, because I don't quite understand what makes Syrian Muslims so special in regard to refugee importation. My apologies for jumping anyone's conversation, and now I'll hangup and go away.

So you would prefer that they either stay where they are in ISIS country, or that they move into your neighborhood next door. OK, I get it now. What I mean by "no-go zone", is that ISIS cannot go because the compounds are well protected militarily by UN troops. I'm thinking along the lines of temporary cities using Katrina-like mobile housing in safe areas near that part of the world. Sure it wouldn't be easy and simple, but it's not easy and simple (or cheap) settling destitute people in 1st world countries who just might be carrying terrorism with them.

Freshman center Brice injures ankle in practice Wednesday

Of course I'm hoping for a productive 30, but I'll take what I can get from a freshman big guy who played high school basketball against much smaller guys at the TAPPS level. I'm sure we'll know more down the road when we see him against real D-1 competition. -
Amen.

Yes, I'm hopeful that he can at least develop into a legit 15 minute defensive force by the time we get into conference play. You can't teach that kind of size, and let us hope that he's a quick learner at this level. Hope to see him in person against Idaho. -
Build a U.N. militarized ISIS "no-go zone" in a Middle Eastern or North African country for the refugees, and negotiate a way to have that "temporary" refugee living zone broadly financed internationally. They can move right back home from there when/if the conflict is finally resolved. Hell, Obuma already spent half a billion to train what is now a total of five Syrian fighters, so apparently money is no object to us at all. We're playing with fire with our so-called compassion. I would prefer the smell of napalm in the ISIS morning over the option of allowing any high risk individuals to enter the country legally in the name of compassion.

Thankfully all "Canales for Coach" talk is over
foutsrouts replied to ADLER's topic in Mean Green Football
That thought is crazy at best, but I do miss the potential explosiveness on offense as well as a likely immediate upgrade in recruiting. With a highly paid and WELL PROVEN DC it could possibly work. His wife is a graduate, and I don't think that he holds major grudges against us, so he probably wouldn't have too many personal "hate issues" to deal with if he returned. But again, the idea is pretty much insane. -

Helluva scorer during one of our most exciting seasons in history. Deepest condolences. -

At least we'll leave with a non-losing all-time record. I have relatives in the vicinity and almost made this one, but our first couple of games tempered my enthusiasm for it. Beautiful autumns in that part of the world.

Update: North Texas @ Tennessee 11/14

Whoever happens into Knoxville, stays in Knoxville. Or we can only hope. -
Agreed. Run an offense similar to what is commonly run in successful northern DFW suburbs and get a DC in here who can recruit and do the damn job. This Weeping Giant stuff has just got to stop.

I almost agree with you Queen, in that we were (and are) desperately grasping at straws in regard to the QB position, but the fact is that he is still the best we have to offer. Btw, your 1-11 days are far from behind you at Crime U., so go ahead and gloat while you can.

Hey, why complain? He's putting up a very balanced attack.

Chris "Cushy" Cosh should be sent to the little leagues where he belongs. Why is he still here?
-
Wow. And the only game in town for hundreds of miles. Unless you consider the games well down the road in Shreveport.

You bruised my typing finger senselessly.

Just go cheap and have the fan throw rice at him from the stands. Too much smog for a banner to work anyway.

If I had to choose, I'd take TD over DD. But only if we could pick TD's assistants, and pay his free reign DC twice that of TD. Might actually work.

Probably because he's a bit of a dickey, and he probably doesn't like us very much with the way things ended. On a positive note, I have to say that he was somewhat of a success here due to the bowl appearances, but most everything else during his tenure was pretty bad. I do wish him well in Memphis and hope he's living healthy. Return trips just rarely pan out anyway.

To the Chico as coach haters (I'm basically on the fence), would he be good enough for consideration if we could somehow flash back a dozen years after he just finished a very successful stint as offensive coordinator at South Florida? Just wondering, because some of the coordinator suggestions I've been seeing really don't have much better resumes (other than TX ties) than what he had back at that time.

A lot of truth there. I have slightly mixed feelings about Canales, but the scariest thing to me is that we're going to hire another "name" coach from somewhere on the either side of the country, whose primary reason for being here is all about six figures a year heading into retirement. Either that or a stepping stone current coordinator who will maybe get us to .500 in three years and then be gone. Tough choices here, but if Chico is to be considered they should get it done sooner rather than later. That is assuming of course that he is not 100% out of the mix. Hard to believe he would not want the job unless he has big plans elsewhere. We'll see how we do over the next rough two and a half weeks.
