Also, I think USA is many years away from seriously considering us for membership as long as we're coming out of the SBC. Respect is a "steppingstone" process. And I say that regardless of how big and beautiful of a stadium that we somehow manage to build. Success in the WAC is a different story. Whether we could quickly be successful or not in the WAC is certainly a matter for debate. But I do believe that our recruiting would improve upon membership in the WAC. A lot of prospects listen to their dads during the recruiting process. The WAC is miles ahead of the SBC in the minds of forty something year old fathers. The SBC just doesn't have a whole lot of respect.

I know that this is an old subject, and that the majority of the regulars on this board are SBC freaks, but in my opinion it's time to move away from 1AA and get into a "marginally" nationally respected conference. The SBC just doesn't cut it in football for me anymore. It's CLEARLY a glorified 1AA conference. I am afraid that it may be going downhill now that we appear to no longer be the dominant force. Considering the fact that we DO have a long football history with SOME national exposure and success, I'm thinking that we are the school that has been keeping this conference afloat for the last 4-5 years. If we return to mediocrity, what will happen to the SBC? IMHO, the powers that be may work to make this conference go away. I think that we should make a move toward being accepted in the WAC. I truly believe that it would help our recruiting in a major way. A football only membership would be the ideal situation. We are already traveling like crazy to the south of Florida, so I really don't see a major difference in football only travel costs. IT'S TIME TO MOVE UP AND GRAB A "LITTLE" NATIONAL PRESTIGE! We're not going to find that anytime soon in the SBC. I have seen this downhill spiral before and I don't want to see it happen again. Monroe did the football only in the SBC, and seemed to have no problem with competing in other sports in the Southland Conference. Why can't we do the same with the WAC and the SBC? All my opinion of course, but I'm getting very tired of the stagnation. Even if we had a reasonably good season this year, I would still feel like we need to FINALLY find a way to get on the national stage. BTW, La Tech is having a pretty good night against a very good Fresno team. Twenty-three point lead near the end of the third. Go figure!

I don't blame Rice a bit. My dad is a VERY close old friend of the head honcho at Rice in regard to these decisions. Maybe DD can get the Southlake job and take RF with him! Wouldn't bother me at all.

Yes, but for football only. I think that it's finally time to move back up to 1A football. We sure wouldn't of done worse than 2-9.

Yeah, I really noticed the size problem the other night. On paper, our offensive line is really pretty big. Rose appears to be as advertised, but most of the other guys don't. Our defensive ends just plain look skinny. I think they did a pretty good exaggeration job on our size this year. I hope this is a wakeup call for the strength and conditioning staff. Some of these players need to bunk in the weight room.

Maybe you shouldn't lost your job to injury, but you sure should lose your job for ineptitude. Besides, I don't really think that it was his job to lose anyway. Dickey has never clearly said that Meager is without a doubt the number one man. He certainly plays him as though he is, but he has continually said that the position is under evaluation.

I would absolutely LOVE to see one of the old legendary coaches/players come in here on a 2-4 year contract. Fry, Stallings, Switzer, Slocum, Jimmy Johnson (LOL), Mean Joe, a young Mike Singletary, basically anything to put a hot cole under the butt of this football program!! As difficult as it may seem to make something like that come to fruition, most of those guys would probably be willing to work for a reasonable price. I'm not a DD hater, but these guys would bring in a hell of a lot of media attention and enthusiam that the school needs in a big way. If DD is acceptable for another job in "greener pastures", then I hope that we start looking in that direction.

Sorry that Margie is not feeling well and I hope that she gets well soon. I was considering not attending due to DD's choice of a starting QB, but I think that we will make it anyway. How you can start an obviously inferior freshman over a guy that "basically" led to our "scoring" 20 points in our last quarter of football is beyond me. If Meager plays all but mopup duty, I'll finally be calling for DD's head based on mismanagement. Good luck to you and yours and to the MEANGREEN!!

Idiocy!! Now we get to watch another NT team explode for another ten point game! Seven of those points will probably have to be provided by the defense. We are such an offensive powerhouse with Meager in there. I guess this means that we lose if the D doesn't hold them to nine.

What ever happened to Coach Jenkins at U of Houston? Let him open up the offense and make all of our QB's Heisman candidates like he did down in Houston.

You're right. We have incredible speed on this team. I'm not talking about the type that some people cook down on Fry.
