For the sake of argument, a WAC football and back to the Southland in all other sports would be an interesting option. In the Sunbelt, we seem to be inept in almost all sports other than football {excepting '05), soccer, and occasionally golf. The "sleeping giant" school in Denton is really just not competing! It's pretty obvious that football is THE major prestige sport as far as overall national perception is concerned. The WAC may be a top heavy conference, but to me, it's pretty obvious that the football WAC is a full notch above the Sunbelt in national perception as well as in overall talent. Not to belittle the old MVC, but I think that a WAC football affiliation would be the best conference affiliation in our school's history. I'll list my positives and negatives of such a move, and please feel free to do likewise. Positives: 1. The WAC would give us a better football conference with MUCH more national prestige. Conference USA would definitely be preferable, but I think that SMU will find a way to keep us out for years to come. They don't want us to be on equal footing with them athletically, and they have the money and influence to make it very difficult for us. Do payoffs happen these days? Look at past history and decide for yourself! We could use the WAC as a stepping stone. I think that our chances of joining an expanded Mountain West down the road may be more likely than USA. 2. As far as football recruiting is concerned, a game or two in beautiful Hawaii would be very enticing. A more historically established conference like the WAC wouldn't hurt much either. 3. In other sports, I think that we would immediately become a powerhouse in the Southland. The NCAA automatic berth in Southland basketball wouldn't be the pain that it is now in the Sunbelt. 4. As far as travel costs and regional rivalries are concerned, a WAC/Southland affiliation would be much more preferable to me. In WAC football, we would still have only one (LA Tech) reasonable day trip. Currently, LA-Monroe is really the only Sunbelt football team within easy day trip driving distance. As far as other sports are concerned, the Southland has roughly a half dozen schools within day trip driving distance of Denton. This is especially important since we HOPEFULLY will have baseball up and running in a couple of years. Negatives: 1. The Southland in non-football sports is a step down from the Sunbelt. Maybe. But conference championships and regional rivalries could more than make up for that. 2. The WAC in football requires more travel. Maybe a bit. But we're only talking about four games a year. 3. The WAC may break up and go away. Who knows? The same could be said for the fragile Sunbelt. 4. Recruiting in non-football sports. We might lose a bit because the Southland may be perceived as inferior to the Sunbelt. Possibly. But that may be more than covered by our membership in a superior football conference. The WAC may not be the best in the world, but we somehow need to get on the national map. Nothing else has worked thus far.

That happened because we just plain sucked last year. The previous three or four seasons we probably could have hung tough with BYU. Here's to hoping that last year was an anomaly. Bring on the Mormans!

Got to be a basher. No one could be that ignorant!

Sacramento State is a 1A program? I guess I missed that one. An independent?

We had quite a few fans at the Lala game the other night. That didn't exactly seem to help much. Major travel to road basketball games just ain't gonna happen in the SBC even if we are a top twenty-five team. Maybe if we could flash back and get in the the old SWC, but not in the far-flung SBC. Go Steelers!

Nice to see that SMU has a losing record and we are far from it. Hope we can add to their losses next year. Also, we have played more games than TT and UofH. Contrary to some people's popular opionion, we HAVE been around for awhile.

Recruiting..we are getting reports that

DEMARIO! WHERE IS DEMARIO? That could minimize our concerns at the running back position. Is he at Kilgore? Is he coming to NT? Inquiring minds need to know! -
You might not be too far off base with that thought. A partner at a CPA firm I once worked for had the same symptoms and it was found that it was related to Nutrasweet. Some kind of an allergic reaction that suddenly appeared. Coincidentally, he was also 46 years old.

Booger's clone.

Extremely athletic and great at breaking down a defender one on one. If he can improve his shot and learn to play under control, you just may be right.

LEGITIMATE 4.3 speed is pure sprinter's speed. If he truly runs that well then bring him on and see if we can put 10-15 pounds on him! He would be the fastest guy on the team.

Emmitt Smith was around 5'9" 190 when he came into the league and he didn't do too badly. I've been around him more than once and I don't think he's gotten any taller. Most of the great ones in "recent times" have been roughly along the lines of 5'9-6' and around 190-210 lbs. when they entered the league. Sure there have been some exceptions in the past, but it's much easier to name great RB's in that size range than it is to name the exceptions. Some of the bigger ones don't last very long because they don't have the elusiveness to avoid the monster LB's of today's game. PC may be at the lower end of the ideal range, but he has quite a few things going for him. We shall see.

I hope you're doing great also DD! No joke intended I assure you, but maybe it's time to go with more salads on a regular basis. All of us that have hit the big four O know that it's a good time to get rid of the old gut. One of my best buddies (at 41) just had a major heart situation. Best of luck, we need ya, and ya very well could be our MVP this coming year! Hope to see you on Wednesday! -
I think that was greenbats clone.

DRC article on 4 signings this weekend and summary

Fifteen tackle AVERAGE over his last four games in the playoffs. Might of had a 20 tackle game in that stretch. Pretty impresive. Maybe we should of used DD's "stealth" recruiting method on this guy. Hope no one else gets to him before Wednesday. -
Good game from a very talented team. If we can play together and continue to improve, this could be a very special year for MeanGreen B-Ball!

If we somehow won six of our last nine (or close to it) we could be a 19 or 20 win team with an SBC tourney championship. That would likely give us a #14/#15 seed. Duke is most likely a #1 seed. If we blow the rest of the season and then pull out the SBC tourney, then yes we would have a chance to play Duke in the first round with a #16 seed. If you think that expecting to win the SBC tournament is ridiculous, then you need to follow another team. I don't see anyone in the SBC that is clearly surperior to us, and I think that we have as good a chance as anyone to pull that off. Also, no one is saying that we're going to pull off a win in the NCAA tourney. That would be dreaming, but stranger things have happened especially if we avoided a #1 seed. This team definitely has talent but has trouble consistently closing out big games. A little more height and experience wouldn't hurt either. Wilmington and maybe Arizona State are the only teams that have kicked our butts this year. I'd say pure talent and depth wise, this is one of the better teams ever at NT.

Move Meager to WR. After a year or two of experience, maybe he can become a poor man's version of JQ. Let the other QB's fight it out in the Spring. Without even considering physical limitations, I finally lost confidence in Meager's "field generalship" the last couple games of the season.
-
It would be nice if the two brothers could face off in the tournament this year. I think that we would be seeded too high for Duke, which is a good thing, so I guess we would have to actually pull off a couple of tournament wins for that matchup to have any chance at all of happening.

With as many students as we have on and around campus these days, we have got to find a way to get them out. It's really sad that we can't get at LEAST 3k out of the student body every single game. I guess that we just need more promotions and promoting to make the games a true campus event.
-
To me, next year looks like we have a chance to have the best team EVER here at North Texas. If everyone shows up, we're finally going to have an abundance of big men and a whole lot of deep experienced talent at guard as well as all over the court. If we continue to improve this year, I still think there's a definite chance that we could win the SBC tourney and make the NCAA's. Things are looking up in the MeanGreen B-ball world!
-
Amazing. I thought the women were a definite NCAA/NIT possibility this season. Looks more like we may have to depend on the men (tourney) now.
-
I guess that's what happens when you stay in the Southland, er, I mean Sunbelt Conference in football. Maybe we can at least come up with one of those uncommited kickers.
-
We were clearly cheated on two different touchdown calls. It wouldn't surprise me if the refs. showed favortism toward them these days, but I doubt that they would try and pull what they did back then. That was just too obvious. I don't really recall the exact halftime score, but I thought we pretty much dominated them the whole game. I was sitting in the north endzone.

For this dream to occur, the first step is to get JT healthy and in freshman year shape. A couple of first half breakaways could at least keep us in the game. Also, DD better make sure that the OL bunks in the weight room for the next 8 months. Just a couple of the dozen or so things that need to happen for us to pull it off.
