  1. It looks like the policy is going to be to preserve Jamairo as much as possible. That's why I'm worried about our backup RB situation. Hope to see Mitchell and Cox get a few carries soon.
  2. I sure hope you're right when you say that poor tackling is correctable. Several of our DB's/LB's looked like they were scared to try and put a lick on someone. That 24 yard TD by Sweed was pitiful. Warren showed the aggression of a timid high schooler on that play. I don't care if we're playing Texas or Texas Lutheran, we need to go out there and show more of a competitive fire on defense. That being said, I do think that we are going to be a much better team this year. I think our lines are going to hold up well against lesser competition, and that our LB's and young DB's will get it together over the next couple of games. I also think that we have A LOT of talent on offense, and I just hope that our coaching staff can find a way to utilize it. By the way, why isn't DD giving Mitchell a chance at RB? I know Robertson is fast, but is a 150 lb backup to Jamario really what we need right now? Mitchell proved that he has some talent against Arky State last year, and I would like to at least see him get a chance to interview for the job.
  3. I have no clue why Phillips even played in this game at all other than in the 4th quarter. When you play one of the best and fastest defenses in the country and you're outmanned in the trenches, you need your best runner out there taking the snaps. When Wilson was in there, the LB's were frozen because they knew he was a threat to take it to the outside. When Phillips was in there, 7 or so defenders were free to attack the middle right off the snap because they know that he doesn't have the wheels to escape from anybody. Not only did this usually result in Phillips being overwhelmed on passing plays, but it also meant that the RB was generally a sitting duck. Nothing against Phillips because if he were wearing an orange jersey today he may have been the best
  4. Jamario runs for close to 200 and we win the turnover battle 4 to 1. Our 3/4 slows down their running game and we pressure and sack their rookie QB 4 times including the last play of the game. After the final sack, Memorial Stadium is so quiet that you hear nothing but Bevo taking a dump and 200 scattered MeanGreeners going wild. We win 23-20.
  5. Glad to hear you're doing well. Just make sure to keep the sound down in the final minutes when we beat Austiin. I plan on doing the same to avoid a cardio event of my own. Best of Luck!
  6. Obviously I want him to make it somewhere, but both Texas teams could use him. I almost want him to get cut for that reason. Great job PC! Hope to see ya around here soon!
  7. Hold em to a 4 to 1 turnover deficit, pressure their rookie quarterback in a MAJOR way, our excellent 3-4 LB's bend but don't break, we make the big plays and they don't, and our coaches make the right calls. Sounds like a win to me!
  8. Damn, I'm starting to feel injured myself with all of this nonstop injury crap. I would like to blame it on the coaches or conditioning, but I guess it's just bad luck.
  9. Texas Metro? Hmmm, I kind of like it. It sounds better than most of the other potential alternatives down the road because it's unique and starts with Texas. Texas State - Denton, or University of Texas at Denton (shoot me!!!!) don't sound to hot to me. I guess The University of Denton isn't too bad either. Similar small town names have seemed to work out pretty well for both Auburn and Clemson. Btw, not pushing for a name change but I just couldn't help myself.
  10. With some of the pessimistic posts around here, maybe we should change our name to something like the University of Denton, DFW State University, or American Central University? Seriously, it does seem like the regional "North" designation is still affecting ours and others perceptions in many ways. Although I'm still a bit bitter about losing the Texas State name which I believe was ours for the taking, I really don't think that our image is that bad nationally. I'm a CPA who has worked for a multinational corporation for several years and I've never been laughed at or treated with disdain because of my alma mater. I've generally found quite a bit of respect for the business program etc. at North Texas. That being said, I do think that inferiority complexes still run rampant in Denton. There are a variety of reasons for that phenomena, but I think that it can eventually be overcome with both academic and athletic success. Getting that law school pushed through the legislature next year in addition to a near-term stadium groundbreaking wouldn't hurt us a bit.
  11. I was there for that opening Dome game also. I was only 5 and sitting behind the third base dugout, but I do remember Mantle's homer to I believe right center field. It is one of those early memories which left quite an impression on me. I also was there when they turned out the lights in the Dome and for opening day at Enron.
  12. Didn't we win this title sometime back in the 60's/70's?
  13. Who knows? Obviously the kid was out screwing around in a big way, but it doesn't sound like your old late 1980's "Dallas Carter" armed robbery gang situation. I guess it just depends on what the individual is like and what the disposition of the case turns out to be. Certainly wouldn't want him around if he's a kid with a serious attitude problem, but I guess I still believe in innocent until proven guilty.
  14. "Goodbye McNeese State" or one of many great Astro, Cowboy, Rocket, Maverick, or Oiler games. I also enjoyed most of Nolans's record breakers in Arlington.
  15. Scared and confused me for a moment. Thought you were talking UTA! They still do have a stage to play on out there don't they?
  16. Kent State, Buffalo, New Mexico State, Temple, and Idaho all at home. Sure would help our bowl eligibility chances.
  17. I agree. As long as he can handle the snap from center, I hope we go with Wilson. Meager had his chance and it's time to AT LEAST TRY some new blood. I hope it isn't Rose who is causing the muffed exchanges. Getting the ball to the QB seemed to be the only thing he excelled at last year.
  18. I'm not your parents and I went to that game. As a matter of fact I was in the endzone seats directly above that play. Made me sick and I screamed like crazy and was pretty much ready to fight. The refs were obviously preparing for their future careers at Enron.
  19. Show me a quarterback that can hit our receivers both rolling out and on a three second drop back, a defense that can hold them under 30 points, and a coaching staff that's willing to let it all hang out, and I'll have some of that Koolade. Stranger things have happened, and sometimes they happen at the most unexpected times. I was at the '88 game and we kicked their butts. Maybe it's time for some belated payback.
  20. Screw the ahole. I'm not one to praise the fact that we're in the Sunbelt, but WE ARE a 1A conference. Transfer rules seem to apply the same to us as they do to the BCS schools.
  21. Now, if we can only find someone to get these guys the ball a few times per game we might have something here.
  22. Great, our star recruit is a 225lb. defensive lineman. I don't think that even Booger could of lost that much weight without slicing off a large chunk of muscle. If it's true, he must of been all blubber in high school. I was kind of hoping that he would start out as our #3 guy at noseguard as a true freshman. Hope he's fast with good hands. Sounds like a FB or LB to me.
  23. No. I'm going to go ahead and be an smu-like snob and say that San Marcos should stay in their place down in the Southland.
  24. I thought San Marcos was still the place you went to bong and float on the river?
  25. Being a native Houstonian and knowing many people that were burned, I can understand the ill will toward the guy. CERTAINLY not to defend him, but I think he was simply an arrogant and greedy man who turned a blind eye to what was going on rather than the mastermind behind the whole fiasco. On the other hand, I think that Bernie Ebbers was THE mastermind behind the entire fiasco at WCOM. Btw, I never owned any Enron, but I DID own some WCOM, so my opinions are a bit prejudicial when referring to one scam over the other. That being said, may Bernie Ebbers BIP (Burn In Prison).
